New in the Charts Thread

There is no doubt in my mind that Paul McCartney absolutely wanted a No. 1 album.
Yeah, who wouldn't? (I totally agree with you)
True but I see his point...There's been times in the past where I thought Paul was just walking through the motions when promoting a new release...He seemed like he was making a concerted effort to push this album as much as he could...It didn't perform poorly by any means...but I think it did under perform given Paul's effort to stand behind this release

In general I agree that the tour would have helped album sales. That said take a look back : Flowers, Off the ground, Driving Rain, Chaos all tied in with a tour. None of them huge sellers. While Flaming Pie wasn`t promoted touring it at least sold as well as above mentioned albums if not better. I think that this late in the game gold certification does`t mean all that much to Paul. What he really craves is to get back commercially to where he was in the 70s and early 80s. So let`s hope that his marketing people have a plan B for early 2014 when major releases are scarce and the album may get renewed attention. IMO a new radio song would help, be it Appreciate, Save us or Everybody out there.
You're missing one important thing about those earlier albums: They all stayed on the Billboard 200 as long as the tour was going on. Flaming Pie had a great early run (publicity was really solid), but dropped pretty quickly.

You can't be NEW at 71 you can only be WISE Paul needs to start acting his age and stop trying to compete with todays younger generation . The album was good but it shouldn't have been called New and the cover was all wrong . A serious rethink is now needed by him and his management team .

I disagree. Paul is an artist, and he shows us how HE feels (young), not what people expect from him. I think having a number 1 is secondary to him. -

Paul McCartney is always a top tour artist. And that is much more important than selling records these days. I see so many unknown artists selling so many records. Paul's New sold more than big selling artists like Avril, Celine, Linkin Park, Elton John, Cher and even than The Beatles. Paul is not promoting his album and I think that he won't play New songs at Gramys The Beatles BBC will get a help from grammy, not New. Paul, again I say, is always the most popular on tours and he can sell New a lit more if he tour again. Just remembering, The Beatles is the most popular band of all time and even these days is top one on illegal downloads. Don't worry, Paul still is the most popular artist these days. On his shows you can see that. About Miley Cirus, give her one more year of success, maximum! And she is naked on video, even I saw that and hate her music.

They could always repackage it with a photo of him jumping into a convertible. I kid!

Just watched the documentary about New on Danish TV..I thought it was great, and I am sure it will generate album sales everytime it's being aired somewhere..it has the message people want to know before buying the album: Paul still got game!

So he officially hasn't given up on the album yet. Good news!

The new Surface 2 ad with the McCartney song will make its official debut during the broadcast of the annual Grammy Awards on CBS Sunday night. Microsoft also sponsored a contest to bring an up and coming music act to Los Angeles to play at an official pre-Grammys concert. The winner of that contest was Arkanas singer-songwriter Barrett Baber and his Facebook page chronicles his trip to LA for the event.

The Microsoft campaign is huge & the Grammy effect has traditionally been impactful. This should finally push New into Platinum status.

I don't think it's gone gold yet, so that's unlikely. But if he plays a tune from the album and they run an ad for it as well, it should vault back onto the chart, maybe even crack the top 50 again.

Well, you got both in one fell swoop - He performed Queenie Eye about 10 minutes ago and a commercial with "New" (the song) as the sound track just aired...LOL

I was actually hoping for an ad FOR the album, not just the Microsoft ad, but that may have been too much to ask. That said, "New" is at #90 on the U.S. Amazon chart, with a green "up" arrow, so maybe the Grammy show is helping.

New is on position 39 on amazon. Great pos Grammy results. Can't wait to seeBillboard chart. But Paul has to take advantage of this and start touring It was great to see Paul Ringo Yoko Nancy Sean Barbara and Olivia

New years Eve, I was seeing ads for the album itself every few minutes on which ever channel aired the D ick Clark's New Years Eve party (with Ryan Seacrest taking over this year after Mr Clark's passing)

NEW is one of Best Buy's "Deals Of The Day" today ($9.99)

Actually, is on position 20 on amazon music and 39 on general sales, that's even better
