FourFiveSeconds- new collab. with Rihanna, Kanye and Paul

Not meaning to attack anyone personally, by the way. I apologize if I sounded out of line. And I apologize personally to you, oobu24. I was not directing "go listen" to you, but to people who don't like Paul's other projects in general.

These kids today! Next thing you know, Elvis will be swiveling his hips on TV, turning our kids into savages!
yeah. it's just like Elvis. :
Actually, it is. Every generation, kids discover new music that's different from their parents' generation's tastes, and adults roll their eyes and say, " I don't believe the crap these kids listen to nowadays!" So it was with Elvis, and the Beatles, and punk, and disco, and hip hop, and on and on and on and on...
Really? Kanye asking Paul "what p***y was like in the 60s" is like Elvis? Not it isn't. You're wrong. And Elvis changed music for everyone. So did the Beatles. This is not even close to doing that.
Nobody said the question Kanye asked Paul had anything to do with Elvis! He was just saying that Elvis was one of the phenomenons of the 20th century that parents thought would corrupt their kids. It's been going on since Rudolph Valentino in the 1920's! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_Valentino

Please note, all the people who say they hate rap, that neither of these new songs is rap. Also, to the people saying Rihanna and Kanye will never last, each one has had seven popular and mostly critically successful albums (including Kanye's album with Jay-Z) over about a decade. Ten years may not seem like a long time to those of us who are older, but Led Zeppelin was only around for about ten years, and the Beatles were around for less than eight as a recording unit. How many years, and how much critical acclaim does it take, for a musical artist to be deemed worthy? Yes, Kanye can be a nasty guy, but at least he hasn't bitten the heads off of live animals like Ozzy did. ; ) Ozzy also looked foolish on reality TV, but that doesn't change his reputation for some respected and influential work on his own and with Black Sabbath. Yes, I know, I have as much chance of convincing some of you that Rihanna and Kanye are worthy as I have of convincing my 83-year-old mother to like "Helter Skelter" or Led Zeppelin!
You say neither of these songs are rap...so what? People can NOT LIKE them for any reason. Why are you defending them so vigorously? Ozzy was a diff genre too & many don't care for Black Sabboth. So what?
And I heard that him biting the head off a bat or whatever was an accident. That a fan had thrown it on the stage and he thought it was fake (stuffed toy) and then bit the head off!

I didn't know I was on a playground, I though I was on a forum where different opinions are expressed. I have a right to my opinion. So do you. I just disagree. I GET the whole "older people don't get the young people's music" angle. I suppose to young people Kanye is like Elvis. Or The Beatles. Whatever. However, Elvis and The Beatles influenced HUGE segments of the population. There are many people in this society who, if you asked them, would even know who Kanye is.

To be fair,if it wasn't for Olivers Army & A Good Year For The Roses, most people in society wouldn't know who Elvis was either?

I suspect the real test, which cannot be proven right now, is if, in sixty years, Kanye is called the King of Hip Hop. In his day, Elvis was miles ahead of the competition. So were the Beatles in their day, and today are considered the best band that ever was. Is Kanye considered the best of the best in his genre? Better than Eminem? Better than Lil Wayne or Snoop Dog or Sean Combs? Time will tell who is right and who is wrong. Let me know in fifty years!

I think there are 2 diff Kanye gripes here. His music & then his language (that quote). His language can't compare to Elvis'. (I wouldn't think)

I wonder if folks here would truly like these songs if they didn't know Paul was involved?
That is a valid point. I am certain that I would not have liked them, listened to them, or cared in the least about them. I can't stand this kind of current commercial music.
In these cases "this kind of current commercial. Music" are acoustic ballads.
To be more specific, I guess I mean modern radio pop. I simply don't like it, that's all. I haven't always disliked music that is popular on the radio, but these days I don't hear much that I like, to be honest. There are many acoustic ballads that I do like, mind you. But these songs don't appeal to me at all, for whatever reason. I don't like the sounds, I don't like the production, and I don't like the lyrics. And it's not because I have anything against Rhianna or Kanye West, because frankly, I don't even really know who they are. I may be out of touch. Fair enough. But I know what I like, and I don't like this.

And for the record, I don't think Paul should not try new things. He is an artist, after all. I admire Paul's prolific adventurousness, musically. I like the Fireman records, Twin Freaks, KOTB, Ocean's Kingdom, Ecce Cor Meum, the Bloody Beetroots, the Dave Grohl/Nirvana collaboration, Hope For The Future (which I love), Thrillington, McGear, the Liverpool Oratorio, Holly Days..I know I'm missing some things. He's been so prolific, it's incredible. And don't get me started on the songs and albums that I love that 90% of fans dislike or dismiss - Wildlife, McCartney II, Mary Had a Little Lamb, We All Stand Together (the video, the song, and the awesome picture disc), GMRTBS (the movie!!), etc., etc.... But this new collaboration, well, I just don't get it. To my ears, and by my judgement (for what it's worth, and to be honest, I realize the world needs less judgement, not more), this is as close as McCartney has ever come to releasing something that I find objectionable and embarrassing. I don't mean to offend in any way. I hesitated in posting this, but I just needed to get it off my chest. If other people like these new songs, that's cool, too. No worries here.
-
I by no means care for these collaborations but on the flipside he's a musician enjoying working with current artists. Wished he worked with more of the rock world musicians (which he has..because it lends towards more his forte). A suppose a little background history that we may tend to overlook; The Beatles were the first white British group to publicly/musicially show they were directly influenced by Black Artists; Tamla/Motown (Smoky Robinson, Isley Bros., Marvin Gaye, The Shirelles, etc.) Paul also took hold of the Reggae movement of the 1970's and even went so far as to go directly to the Homeland of Black music when recording BoTR for the local flavor/atmosphere. Maybe this has been understood but had to be written. I suppose he feels he has reached out to every other type of genre out there musicially except the world of hip/hop/rap. For me, he doesn't have anything to prove and I wish he would get back to his own roots but if this inspires him then so be it. I guess for a guy who has 'done it all' it couldn't hurt to try something new like this if he feels challenged.

I agree with you so much, other than the objectionable and embarrassing comment. Paul is an artist and artists paint with many colors. It's what he likes, obviously.... And so he should be able to paint/make music, however he desires. He's paid his dues to the music machine already! Just another thought. Just because you grow older, you don't always have to stop moving along with current music. Some people get trapped in an era, some keep going... Paul has kept going, in my opinion that's great!
