"...it's a fool WHO plays it cool..." That's not quite what Paul sang.
I KNOW darlin', that's what I said--he sang "it's a fool THAT plays it cool" instead. (read my post above 2/19 2 pm) Rich said it was just jumbled words or something, which it was not. End of discussion. (Agree to disagree situation)
What Paul sang is none of the above - he momentarily forgot the lyrics and sang 'da da da (number of 'da's' to = number of syllables of the line you cited)
I guess you felt the need to "get in the last word" even though I said end of discussion. Please, let's just agree to disagree!
I see your point kinda, too.

(skip ahead to 1:26:55) Paul flubbed the first line of "Band On The Run." Buenos Aires, 2010:
-
He messed up a line in Lady Madonna at the soundcheck in Atlanta Oct. 15th, but did it flawlessly during the regular concert.
-
No one is immune to brain farts.

At the risk of stirring it up once more, to me it did sound like an all-out flub. He may have recovered by the time it got to the word "cool."

What does he say?
-
Technically, he didn't forget the lyrics; he sang the first line a half-measure prematurely.
-
maybe he was still jacked up from his own birthday.
-
Maybe he's had some "wine or a margarita" instead of a spliff!

What is up with him this year? He does not sound good

Some think he still sounds amazing, others not so much. I think he sounds about like a 73 year old singing rock notes at a high pitch. And it does not sound great. No one would. Yes, there are artists his age who sound great, but look at the songs they are singing and the range they are in. Paul will need to change the keys eventually. That is inevitable. Or stop singing them. There is a pretty good reason for Robert Plant not wanting to sing Led Zep songs anymore, or at least in the original key.

See...if he sang more songs that he wrote in the last 30 years...he may sound better. Not that I am saying he doesn't sound good...I haven't heard him in person this year.

Good point. Songs like Birthday, Jet, Too Many People, Maybe I'm Amazed, etc. really showed off that high rock voice of Paul's, but he isn't there anymore. Young Boy, Flaming Pie, Only Mama Knows, he can nail those.

My point of view is not at all popular, but I insist that -- in terms of vocal fluidity and the ability to make complex melodies seem effortless -- Paul McCartney hit his vocal-peak in the '80s. Yes, I want him to sing more of his solo stuff, but songs like "Take It Away," "No More Lonely Nights," "The Pound Is Sinking" and "On The Way" would be a tougher task than one might think. But could he nail "Run Devil Run" today? Yes. Same with "About You," "House Of Wax," "Lovers That Never Were" or "We Got Married."

I agree, for the most part. What is so challenging vocally about Take It Away?
-
The challenge is not so much range; it's fluidity. The line: "...Don't you wa-oh-na stay 'til there's no one else around..." is a good example.

Perhaps. I will listen more closely!

I see what you mean, but I think he could sing it pretty well.

I know I'm reviving an old thread but it used to be one of my favourites and I've just come across a lovely one.
Around 6:20, the second verse, total flub but he shrugs it off adorably. And there's a great shot of Brian having a cheeky smile. It puts them in a bit of a silly mood because they nearly crack up later in the song.
