WINGS FUN CLUB - recollections?
-
That was brilliant of Sue for looking after you so well ((((((((((((((((Liz)))))))))))))). She was always so helpful

Thanks to the Wings Fun Club, i was able to see Wings at the City Hall in Newcastle in 1979. Because i lived a fair distance from Newcastle, i was sold 2 tickets for five pounds fifty pence each, and didn't have to get tickets from the venue.I think in those days credit card sales over the phone were rare,so you had to get them from the box office in person. Seeing Paul in such a small Theatre is something i'll never forget. Having only a laptop since September, i missed out on tickets for the small gigs last year. The frustrating thing last year was the Roundhouse gig.I was trying to get tickets while on a coach travelling to see Brian Wilson in London.Impossible on a mobile to get anywhere, signal kept coming and going, very annoying.

Loved Wings Fun Club. I joined quite a bit before Club Sandwich was produced and remember a lovely girl who wrote the newsletter called Claire who came from Kingswinford. Through the club I got tickets for the filming of Big Barn Bed for the James Paul McCartney TV special and also managed to get second row centre seats at the Hammersmith Odeon for Wings first proper tour. May 25th 1973 - exactly 35 years ago .
-
Lucy,Claire,Nicky & Sue.....where are you now? Its a pity those girls aren't posting on here.....they've probably got a lot of entertaining stories to tell about the early days of the fun club.
-
I too have fond memories of the days of the Fun Club and Club Sandwich...in those pre-internet days detailed information on what Paul was up to was often scarce, so it was always nice to receive another magazine update. I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets through Club Sandwich to the gig held to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of 'Buddy Holly Week', back in 1995. It was a great night, featuring performances from the Crickets, Carl Perkins, Bobby Vee...plus a surprise appearance from Paul, who sang a version of 'Rave On', backed up by all the other artists. It proved to be a night to remember for an excited 14 year old McCartney fan, stood at the front clutching his instant camera.

I've just dug out No 7 and can see two poems on the back. Don't know which one was yours. I've also found all my original newsletters from 1973 - a lifetime ago!

I think line 4 might offer a clue!
-
Ahhh yes, just found it! Somehow I missed the third poem. Good clue...
-
I'd go and have a look at the poem but my collection don't go back that far I only started getting CS in 1982.
-
Well,if nowords gives his permission then i'm sure one of us can post it up here. But thirty years on,he might have second thoughts about that.

My pleasure. Although I've presented the poem exactly in the way it was published, I puposely left off your name and location as was printed at the time. However,if you would like me to edit in those credits then plaese let me know. If anyone else had a letter/poem printed in 'Club Sandwich' (or the earlier Wings Fun Club newsletters and booklets) which you would like to see on this topic then please let me know and I'll have a look for them and post them up here. If you can narrow down the time when you think they would have appeared that would be of help.
