WINGS FUN CLUB - recollections?

My main memory is not being given the chance to see Paul do the UP Close special in NY. I lived in northwestern NJ at the time and was told I was too far away to be able to make the show, when in reality I was within 45 minutes of NYC. I did get a nice note from Sue apologizing though, but of course it was too late by then. And if I remember correctly it snowed that day and a lot of people didn't make it. If I knew then what I know now, I should have gone to NY and most likely would easily have made it in.
In the UK the (very rare) offers of attending video shoots tended to only go to Londoners. People in others parts of the country would hear about it afterwards. The World has moved on and the internet is much more democratic.

Maybe thats true in some cases when the events were organised at very short notice. I live fifty miles away (and about one hours travelling time) from London but i still got invited to the Take It Away video shoot, Broad Street London premier, the London Arena playdate and the Run Devil Run launch party.

We had it all....miss it so much.
Same here.
-
I also miss it very much. Used to check the post constantly, waiting for the latest newsletter & anything else that might be sent our way. I still have my Club Sandwich t-shirts too.
-
This was all before my time as a McCartney fan so its nice to rea what everyone is saying about it and your memories. I've managed to get a few copies and see some online which has been nice for me just to see what it was all about. It def screams out that it was Linda's baby. We as fans have a lot to be grateful to her on that front

retro had a picture published in it, Dani.

now you mention that I remember her telling me that. Thats pretty neat. I think thats part of the reason I like hearing these stories. Its a little more personal and nice when Macca fans could get certain things published

We found that issue at a Fest, as I wasn't in the club them, so I bought it.

One of the things that was really nice is that Linda was the one who got Paul to agree to doing this for us fans.

I knew about the Fun Club but didn't have any spare money to be a member back then. I was a real tight wad and had to be. Now, i wish I had some of this merchandise. I'd love a wallet and jacket plus all those t-shirts (maybe even some that fit nice on a lady's body)

Some of the merchandise was really pricey but there were sales from time to time too

we should have fun club page...
-
When that HP cloud becomes available, the most basic package would do well by us if it had the FUn Club magazines available.

Here they are some: http://www.wingspan.ru/magazines/magazines.html

Memories, beautiful memories of the way things were!

We are discussing the new membership card numbering here: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=83312 So I thought I'd bump this delightful topic by way of comparison. Reading back through it seems that the first club members received newletters rather than what became the Club Sandwich magazine. Were they regular from the outset or just ad-hoc related to promotions? It seems Club Sandwich was a two monthly production with each edition spanning two calendar months. Did that follow UK magazine practice i.e. when would the edition have been sent out? Here in the UK a magazine with Feb/March on the cover would have actually been been despatched in January - August /September in July and so forth...... Was that the case with Club Sandwich, was there an actual despatch date which gave a reliable delivery day? I've read here they were greatly anticipated..... Martin
