Worst McCartney album?
-
Worst McCartney cd.. hmm, although I don't think he has a bad album and I am really going to be in the minority here is Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Other than Fine Line, Follow Me, and Anyway / I've Only Got Two Hands I don't ever listen to it.

Posibbly Wings at the Speed of Sound or Wildlife. But it's relative, because its better than most other artists best stuff.

So true!

Also don't understand the universal panning Press to Play gets. Stranglehold is a cracking song, as is Footprints and Only Love Remains.

The component parts of Press to Play are quite strong - over half of the album is good, a couple of tracks are outstanding, the cover grows on you, and the little mix illustrations that accompany the tracks are fascinating. The album's problem is Side Two really - Pretty Little Head through Busker to Angry feels weak as hell, before However Absurd salvages matters. If Paul had removed PLH, Move Over Busker and Angry and used them as B-sides and instead substituted songs that were a little more substantial, it would be a game-changer. I do well remember the derision heaped on him at the time for choosing PLH as the second single. As a youngish teenager, it was one of my first memorable experiences of bafflement and complete and total cringing.

I would say thats a decent assessment TBH - although I quite like Pretty Little Head.I prefer the single mix with the "warmer" Macca vocals to the album mix that sounds like his mike wasn't switched on but his voice was picked up by the drum mikes.

I lost my Press to Play singles over the years, so only barely remember the single mix. I also had all the various 12" remixes... I often wonder why Paul succumbed to that particular fad as it was clearly a passing phase and it was a waste of energy and studio time to indulge it. I must say however that I thoroughly enjoyed the long version of Once Upon a Long Ago, the one with the brassy outro.

Oh dear - that makes it worse.I think Elvis' version of Hey Jude is awful. He sounds like he struggles to make the high notes.

Never been into Elvis, liked a few of his songs, thats about it, in his favour tho, he could sing, i'm sure if he was starting out today, he would do quite well on American Idol.

FTD (Follow That Dream) is a specialty label dedicated to preserving the recordings of Elvis Presley. What follows is excerpted from their website... 'Hey Jude': A cover of the popular Lennon/McCartney song. Elvis recorded his version at American Studio's in 1969 as a jam song and it was never meant to be released. This song gets mixed reactions from Elvis fans out there. My view? I think it is great. Elvis isn't trying to be like The Beatles, he is still Elvis Presley. The key is changed to a point where Paul McCartney probably could never even sing it in. For me it is fresh with the American Studio's band playing with, and the end section of the "Na Na Na Na" has Elvis' voice sounds so raw and fresh when singing "Jude Jude Jude". However it does prove that it was a jam when Elvis indeed laughs at the end. http://home.online.no/~ov-egela/elvisnowftd.html For the record, I'm not big on Elvis' cover of "Hey Jude;" it's one of those songs that will always be associated with the original artist. However, as an informal jam that was only released due to a shortage of material, I can't be too hard on it, and I doubt The Beatles were too upset about being covered by Elvis...
