NO KIDDING!!! i remember our transistor radios - they were the absolute latest technology from japan - and if you were really lucky, you also had earphones for them!!! i remember 50 cent movies, and sitting up in the balcony to toss popcorn and soda down - do you remember "Beach Party" with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello? (1963) slide rulers WERE the calculators/computers of the day - WE HAD NO OTHER TECHNOLOGY!!! and our 45s were played on box record players. telephone party-lines were our "internet," and young ladies had to have their skirts (NO PANTS ALLOWED!) measured by school administration to make certain they were the proper length...
Roflmao! How about sock hops, because the school was afraid our shoes would ruin the gym floor during dances? Ah, Frankie and Annette.....how about the original Mickey Mouse Club? Sundown AM stations? TVs without remotes? Three channels of programming? Going off the air and showing a test pattern from 1 AM to 6 AM? And yeah, I remember transistor radios (how about Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon's song "Transistor Sister?"), and then during the 80s all those boomboxes everyone hauled around, before cd players could hook on the belt, before MP3 players.......... Sheesh. How about manual typewriters?

OMG!!! Captain Kangaroo, Lassie, World of Disney, Bozo the Clown, Soupy Sales, Rocky and Bullwinkle (& Natasha and Boris), Flintstones/Jetsons...and later, the Beatles Cartoon, and for movies... i cut my pre-adolescent teeth on HARD DAYS NIGHT in 1964; we were visiting relatives in Denver, CO, and my wonderful teenaged cousin, Kathy, took us to see it!!! she drove!!! then, HELP! in 1965 - i'll never forget Paul's winking scene!! and thanks for ALL of the reminders!!! (he's been described by others as "cute as a yorkie puppy!" in this) http://www.last.fm/music/Paul+McCartney/+images/3870166

OK Girls... I am right with you on all of this... traveling down memory lane... I LOVE this My dad paid dearly for my 8 transistor radio... days on the beach at Seaside Park... listening to the transistor radio and everyone was tuned into WABC with Cousin Brucie...."DING" listening to Beatles songs... going to the local soda fountain and getting "cherry cokes" for a nickle. I loved the Jetsons!!! it was one of my favorites as well as all the ones you mentioned Patpatpatti... how about 77 Sunset Strip... Kookie, kookie lend me your comb....he was so dreamy... American Bandstand and Dick Clark and learning all the latest dances... the Mashed Potato , Chubby Checker and the Twist, the Hully Gully, the Frug, the Watusi, The Monkey, the Fish, the Pony, Hitchhike... hitchhike baby around the world, the Sloopy, I knew all of the dances... and all my friends would dance in front of the TV. My one girlfriend had a "color" TV so we went to her house...I loved all of those dances and going to the CYO dances above the firehouse and the summer dances out in the parking lot in high school. We went "down the shore" and hung out on the beach all night. Someone had a transistor radio, and we would have a bonfire... lots of making out under the boardwalk OMG patpatpatti... slide rulers instead of calculators!!! remember??? and manual typwriters...haaaa and that little white tape you used to fix an error. I remember the box record players and when we went to the local record shop and got the latest song on a 45, we would take it over to our friends and play the "new" hit!!! Remember those little yellow things you had to put in the record, so you could use the same spindle for the 33's ? Remember Beatles trading cards inside with that gum? I had at least one of every card. How about 16 magazine where we learned the Beatles favorite colors and that they loved jellybabies... I do remember measuring the skirt length at the principal's office and that girls couldn't wear pants to school. My boyfriend was in a band and played a Fender Mustang Guitar... they played lots of Cream and Hendrix. They had Vox Super Beatle amps, just like the Beatles... we painted their room in day glo paint and had the black light on... very groovy... went to lots of band practices and played at lots of battle of the bands... Life was so much fun back then... the Age of Aquarius and Hair... streaking...Woodstock... why don't we do it in the road... free love... and all that other fun/funny stuff... Those were the days... my hair was down to my bum... mini skirts and Carnaby street... paisley prints, clothes from India...and it was lots of laughs... lots of laughs... and soooooo much fun Oh I am so happy now, thinking of those days...

NOW YOU'RE TALKING MY LANGUAGE, L2T!!! loved everything you mentioned - CREAM, OMG!!!! (i think i've already mentioned this somewhere) my friend and i had a party based on "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window:" we handmade all of the invitations with strange old pics, each invite designating some strange thing guests had to bring for entry to the party...such as a dog-food sandwich (something like that). the guests then entered through my friend's bedroom window, because bathroom windows were too high and small, and then directly into a maze of cardboard boxes attached end to end, that meandered throughout the house, with many dead-ends. one (or more?) of our crazy guy friends hid in those dead-ends and "goosed" the girls as they went through, so, you would hear lots of laughing, but also intermittent squeals!! the maze emptied out into the family room, done up, of course, with psychedelic posters all over, and black lights. my friend and i, and some of our friends, of course, had painted flowers on ourselves - we had a blast!!!!) i'll never forget my "midnight streak" at UCR, too, (no i will not give the date!!) we actually went there to see the "streak" that had been posted, but nothing happened, so, stupid and young and drunk as we were, we decided to "be" the streak, taking off our clothes and hiding them in bushes - that, of course, was our undoing, as we had to then double back to get our clothes - OMG!!! guys, do you remember getting into clubs with forged ids??? we girls had no probs there, they always let us in!!!!!! always loved to dance, and all of it to all of the live bands of that time - it was so great!!!! i still love to dance; it's my exercise - keeps me in shape!!!
-
OMG patpatpatti, I think you might be my doppleganger... The parties in those days were soooooooooooooooooooooo much fun I went to parties like that too... that day glo paint... and black lights... when is THAT coming back into style... And you know, some of those fun people just grew up and got so fuddy duddy.... too bad... I guess I just never forgot how to have fun How about sitting in the diner with your friends and playing songs on the jukebox... Did all your friends have English sports cars??? MGBGT, MGA, Trimph Spitfire, Triumph TR4 Earth shoes.... Dr. Scholls sandles... moccasins, fringe boots... headbands...daisy flowers...home baked brownies mini skirts, maxi skirts, guys with long hair and sideburns and moustaches... Non stop laughing...

I'm a first generation fan as well. My older sister Sharon turned me onto the Beatles in 1964. Saw the Ed Sullivan show and have loved their music all these years later! I always said that their music is timeless.

Turning 60 in September. What about those little pink sponge rollers? And skorts. Those mini jukeboxes at your booth with the song pages that you could flip to make your selection. Spin and Marty and Davy Crockett. For those of you in the Philly area, Joe Grady and Ed Hurst"s Steel Pier show (and the diving horse).
