Here I go again: My suggestion for a "Press to Play" Deluxe Edition. What's missing?
Off the top of my head would be the 7" mix of "It's Not True". Plus, "My Carnival" belongs on the Venus and Mars deluxe set.
hi, thank you - i didn't know about a 7" mix of "It's not true"!
The 7" mix is actually very different to the other versions with an additional guitar part, different drums and a more laid back sound.
Just the intro of this 7" version makes me favor it over the album version. I had that on the single when first released but have long since lost it. Unfortunately on one of the editions of that 'goodsigns' bootleg series that I have (the one that focuses on both Press To Play and Flowers in the Dirt b-sides and alternative takes), it omits the 7" version of it's not true and instead, we get several takes of Press, Tough On A Tight Rope and Pretty Little Head - still nice to have, but not complete.

the 'paul mccartney tv special' is pretty inconclusive with no full songs.the princes trust thing is pretty dreadfull and i cant believe his live performance of 'only love remains' at 'the tube' or indeed the 'royal variety' havent been included!. once again not alot to get too excited about here. looks like i will be buying for completist reasons not for sheer excitment!
Uh, these are all just suggestions, not the actual track listings.
well you read 'wirrals' last post and it did sound like it was an 'updated' info piece. im so sorry for getting it wrong and annoying you....

the updated press to play deluxe set: 1986 press to play cd 1: 1. "Stranglehold" ? 3:36 2. "Good Times Coming/Feel the Sun" (Paul McCartney) ? 4:55 3. "Talk More Talk" (Paul McCartney) ? 5:18 4. "Footprints" ? 4:32 5. "Only Love Remains" (Paul McCartney) ? 4:13 6. "Press" (Paul McCartney) ? 4:43 7. "Pretty Little Head" ? 5:14 8. "Move Over Busker" ? 4:05 9. "Angry" ? 3:36 10. I have to say that remixes have never really floated my boat, but I guess they have to be on there for the sake of completion. However, why not include 'I Love This House' and 'Twice In A Lifetime'? I'm not sure about the latter, but the former was definitely recorded after 'Broad Street' and has a 'Press To Play' feel to it. I would also include 'Don't Break The Promise' on this set, rather than 'Flowers', for the same reason (and it also came out of the same writing sessions with Eric Stewart).

you all have made great suggestions! so we might agree that these tracklists might be quite reasonable. in my opinion that's the minimum effort concord music should put into the reissues. i hope they'll come up with some more creative ideas, videos, outtakes, etc. anyway, i think they are heading in the right direction with the "band on the run" release - i've been waiting to see "one hand clapping" for a loooong time. does anybody have an idea/suggestion what the "venus and mars", "mccartney" and "mccartney II" deluxe sets should contain? 1986 press to play cd 1: 1. "Twice In A Lifetime" was recorded during the Fall of '82 along with other Pipes of Peace songs so it would belong with Press To Play. "Don't Break The Promises" wasn't recorded until the Spring of '88 along with other FITD songs so it really should be there.
-
Is Give My Regards to Broad Street going to be remastered, as I think they could add the film with that, either that or lump Give My Regards to Broad Street with Press to Play or Pipes of Peace.

That's interesting. I'd always struggled to place 'Twice In A Lifetime', it doesn't really sound like anything else on 'PoP'. "Don't Break The Promises" Still sounds more like a 'PtP' track rather than a 'Flowers' outtake to me, but if it was recorded in '88, then fair enough. He was very prolific in that period -- the '80s is my favourite period of his solo career. However, one we've forgotten which should definitely go on 'PtP' is "Simple As That"!
does anybody have an idea/suggestion what the "venus and mars", "mccartney" and "mccartney II" deluxe sets should contain?
I'd be really struggling to do deluxe versions of his 70s albums, unless he puts unreleased or live tracks on them. The only one which seems feasible is 'Red Rose Speedway' -- you could have "The Mess", "C Moon", "Hi Hi Hi", "Live And Let Die" and "I Lie Around" on the 2nd disc, and then the 'James Paul McCartney' TV special and the relevant promos on the DVD. But you could do ones for 'Flaming Pie', 'Driving Rain' and 'Chaos'....

Thanks for the info! I didn't know that. I'm amazed by your knowledge of Paul's recording history! Also, I'd like to take up mumbojunk's idea of compiling a "driving rain" deluxe edition. what about the following cd/dvd-set - any suggestions? 2001 driving rain deluxe box 1. "Lonely Road" ? 3:16 2. "From a Lover to a Friend" ? 3:48 3. "She's Given Up Talking" ? 4:57 4. "Driving Rain" ? 3:26 5. "I Do" ? 2:56 6. "Tiny Bubble" ? 4:21 7. "Magic" ? 3:59 8. "Your Way" ? 2:55 9. Damn, had a typo here. I should've said that "Twice In A Lifetime" belongs on Pipes of Peace and not Press To Play.

Add the David Kahne remix for "Driving Rain" that was only released as part of his Secret Website Show.

I wouldn't add any unreleased songs what so ever. I'd rather these remasters contain everything that's been released to finally get it right and save the outtakes for future projects. With that said, there's the German mix of "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and the radio promo for "Hi Hi Hi" off the top of my head.

Hi, I'm new here, and I think the ideas people are giving on deluxe editions of some of Paul McCartney's 80s, 90s, and 00s albums are all pretty excellent, but I just had to make some opinions about all this here, while none of this is official... I really [don't] want to see "deluxe edition" versions of "Wild Life", "Wings At The Speed of Sound","McCartney II", and "Pipes of Peace"... mainly 'cause of the fact that most of the unreleased versions of songs and unreleased songs should be saved for a "Macca Anthology" and the fact that THOSE albums (despite chart postions) don't have real good critical acclaim and are all [usually] rated "[THREE STARS]" on rateyourmusic.com and I'm giving my ideas out based on what the people want and would do for certain McCartney/Wings albums and feel free to disagree and nit-pick my ideas! For "Wild Life", the only thing I'd want would be the Single Remaster to have a Digi-Pack design, include all or any of the original LP supplements, and include the instrumental version of "Give Ireland Back to the Irish" on CD, [/NOT AS A DOWNLOADABLE SONG]! For "WATSOS", I'd like the same thing with "Wild Life", include some of those Promo DJ Remixes of "Let Em' In" and "Silly Love Songs" and include "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reggae" (According to "JPGR.CO.UK" the song was recorded around 1976, NOT during the "McCartney II" sessions with it's A-side), so it should be there. For "McCartney II", same thing as my other suggestions for "Single Album Remasters", include the original LP paper inserts, have the bonus tracks include, "Check My Machine", "Secret Friend", "Coming Up (Live in Glasgow, 1979)", "Wonderful Christmastime", and maybe a few selections from the original album plan. (the other songs being included on a Macca Anthology")
