We´ll se what´s next in a month or two I think. I hope to god that McCartney 1 + 2 won´t be in the same package though.
Hmm. I kind of like the idea of 1 and 2 being released as a package. It just underscores the tremendous range in his catalog. I'm curious why you think it would be a bad idea?
-
I could definitely live with it! But it would be a shame if McCartney II was released without the massive extra material available from that era..
-
Love the thread and all the though which has gone into it:- additional songs for various releases:- 1) Indigo Moon - Flowers In The Dirt / Church Mice 2) I Wanna Cry ( should be on Russian Album as it was recorded at those sessions ). 3) All The Love Is There - Back To The Egg 4) Get On The Righ Thing & Little Lamb Dragonfly - in their Ram versions without later overdubs. 5) Washington and You Are Still Here - Driving Rain 6) All The Demos for " Off The Ground " - Hurricane Bob, Magic Lamp, Sexual Ealing - Apparantly about thirty songs included all the released ones. 7) Perfect Lover ( Early version of Ever present Past ), A Modern Dance, Watching My Fish Drown - outakes from Memory Almost Full Can't think of anymore at the moment - but I am sure if we stick to the obvious it just allows record company to release only what we mention and not what is there. Who would have really have expected a video for " 222" ? I am sure there is a lot of stuff which we do not know about - guitar concerto is still not release.
-
I really hope they add the Thrillington album to the Ram set. Not so sure I want the mono mix though.

Agreed, and I really don't think they'd do anything like that. I think they'll continue releasing those 2CD+DVD sets whenever there's some unreleased video material worth releasing. For example, I don't see the point adding a DVD to "McCartney" or "McCartney II" since the promo videos for "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Coming Up" and "Waterfalls" are already out there. The lack of bonus material might also explain why they are released at the same time.

'Cause of the fact that the two albums were recorded in two different time periods, 1970 and 1979, the only thing the two have incommon are the fact that Paul released them during the beginning of the 70s and 80s along with the fact that he played all the instruments with Linda doing a few backing vocals... Other than that, I really don't a 3 star album like "McCartney II" to be released with an excellent album like "McCartney" and I'm only saying this due to what the public wants, if it happens either way then I'd just want to buy them as separate albums and either way, hope they have proper mastering.

Danish Macca:
I could definitely live with it! But it would be a shame if McCartney II was released without the massive extra material available from that era..
My opinion on the matter: I mean while they were recorded with just Paul/Linda, they are TWO DIFFERENT ALBUMS with two different types of genres of music, along with being recorded in two different periods, 1970 and 1979, also I don't want a "3 star" album like "II" to be released with the first "McCartney" album which is a "4 star" album and doesn't need a strange bonus to it... but no matter what I'd still buy both as separate albums and I'd rather give "McCartney II" a Bonus Disc and "McCartney" a DVD and/or Bonus Disc of outtakes... Also, while I favor a rerelease of "Red Rose Speedway", a somewhat well received album to get the deluxe treatment and have all the intended tracks to be included with it, I'm skeptic on "McCartney II" getting the same treatment, but I'll sink it in, I just don't see it with a DVD, since there was one documentary on "McCartney II" and the promo videos are all released. Yet again, if they release "McCartney II" on it's own, they'll probably release all the best tracks from the intended version of the album on the bloody "Macca Anthology/Rarities" boxset.
-
To my knowledge he's never offered albums as a two-fer before so I doubt he'll start now. They are completely different albums for sure although they were both essentially recorded in the same experimental home recording style. Personally I listen to McCartney II more and would want all the extra tracks that were recorded for it. Plus maybe a DVD of some of the videos would be nice. Maybe include the audio of the The McCartney Interview record that was recorded in 1980 too.
-
Danish Macca:
the Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey video is from the James Paul McCartney TV special, isn't it?
Slams head on the table Thanks for letting me know, I thought it was a promo on it's own, I haven't been doing too much good research on what could be added to the rereleases, lawl! I would want the video to be part of the "James Paul McCartney" TV Special if it's released entirely on DVD either separately or with a 2 CD/1 DVD Version of "Red Rose Speedway", I mean I don't like if the Hear Music team tries to keep editing out parts of important Macca documentaries and concerts all the time as promos or whatever, just like when they cut out "Juniors' Farm" and "Suicide" off the "OHC" video off the BOTR DVD.

I like all your recommendations! I appreciate the fact that you put a lot of time and effort into making some ideal future releases. Cheers

you all have made great suggestions! so we might agree that these tracklists might be quite reasonable. in my opinion that's the minimum effort concord music should put into the reissues. i hope they'll come up with some more creative ideas, videos, outtakes, etc. anyway, i think they are heading in the right direction with the "band on the run" release - i've been waiting to see "one hand clapping" for a loooong time. does anybody have an idea/suggestion what the "venus and mars", "mccartney" and "mccartney II" deluxe sets should contain? 1986 press to play cd 1: 1. Unplugged needs to be released with a bonus DVD of the show!

Someone should e-mail these deluxe edition suggestions to the Macca staff! NOW!

I hope these do make their way to the staff. So let's see: Unplugged (full show), Back To The Egg Special, Rock Show (full version)...... I don't think we are missing too much more. Some off the top of my head (and I am sorry if these have been mentioned before). I would figure videos corresponding with each album that are not on McCartney years dvd, making of Broad Street (plus the full film both on a bonus dvd with the re issued album), The Paul McCartney Special (yes I know that it's not as complete as other stuff, but would be nice to have as a historical document), plus releasing Moving On as a bonus dvd to Off The Ground. Also both versions of The World Tonight video (really the full making of Flaming Pie dvd, plus the full VH-1 show done with John Fugelsang during the album release). While they are at it, re releasing Chaos and Creation with the special edition dvd that was put out at the time. I think we all seem to have everything listed. If I am being realistic, it would be great if even 20% of what we have listed gets released. This is Paul's chance to get it all out of the vaults.

So I just got Band on the Run and it contains an advert saying "Coming soon to the PM Archive Collection" So here's my bonus hopes for the 6 albums listed: McCartney - I'm predicting no bonus tracks or bonus videos Ram - Bonus tracks: Another Day, Oh Woman Oh Why Venus and Mars - Bonus tracks: Lunch Box/Odd Sox, My Carnival, My Carnival (12" Party Mix), Junior's Farm, Sally G, Walking in the Park with Eloise, Bridge Over the River Suite, Venus and Mars/Rockshow (Live 2010), Letting Go (Live 2010) Wings at the Speed of Sound - Bonus tracks: Seaside Woman, B-side to Seaside Wings Over America - No Bonus Tracks; Bonus DVD of Rockshow McCartney II - Check my Machine, Secret Friend, Coming Up (Live in Glasgow), other possible bonus tracks from unreleased album

What about Simple As That for Press To Play?? That was about the same time and it's great tune..

"Little Woman Love" should be included with the "Ram" bonus tracks because it was recorded during the sessions for "Ram", not around 1971/1972 from what I've heard... As for "WATSOS", "Seaside Woman" was recorded during the "Red Rose Speedway" sessions in 1972, so it should be on "RRS", not "WATSOS", "B-side to Seaside" shouldn't even be there too, it was recorded around the early stages of the "London Town" sessions, NOT the "WATSOS" sessions, in early 1977... if they do add bonus tracks to "WATSOS", I'd love "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reggae" to be there, since I heard it was a 1976 recording, also there were tons of alternate takes and demos done during the "WATSOS" sessions/period in 1976 so they might be included...

Yes, I hope whoever worked on the "BOTR" reissues sees these suggestions and takes our ideas or whatever they can, they'll prolly might release "Rock Show" on it's own, or with the "Wings Over America" Album album reissue if it's given an extra DVD like the "BOTR" reissue. I pretty much would favor the "BTTE" TV Special to be released with the reissue of "BTTE" on DVD with more video of the "Rockestra" sessions...

somewhere on the 'flowers' set should be the first version to 'dont be careless love'.
Well if we're including unreleased things then we should definitely get the original unmixed version of "Good Sign" as only remixes were released for that one..
Did that "unmixed" version ever get out? Big Macca fan here, but I'm not sure we need "Deluxe" versions for everything, honestly they should be saved that for the best LPs, BOTR (done) and "Tug of War" and possibly "Venus and Mars", the 1993 rereleases (actually the 1980s CDs had some too, Wild Life comes to mind) had a sprinkling of rare tracks here and there and that was fine by me. The big project of interest would be a "Bootleg Series" like they did with Dylan almost 20 years ago and of course like the Beatles Anthology, with demos and unreleased tracks, that would be a lot of hard work though and I'm not convinced the material justifies it, unless there is stuff that we haven't heard of yet. Might sound a bit harsh, but honestly who's played "Love Come Tumbling Down" recently ? I haven't even though I jumped on the CD Single that had it when it came out in 1998 (if memory serves).

I have listened to it not that long ago. "Love Come Tumbling Down" is exactly the kind of track I'd like to see released, along with "Love Mix" and "Same Time Next Year", not to mention the awesome Off The Ground outtakes. Those are all great tracks and not so many people have ever heard them. I'd much rather have all of the above than 4 versions of "Spies Like Us" and 6 versions of "Ou Est Le Soleil"

You're right, it'll seem very off and hard to follow if most of Macca's Solo/Wings albums get released as this, that, don't include this, don't have this but the other album has that, etc. And the albums that I did concept track listings for were just suggestions and aren't any final decisions and I respect anyone not believing or rooting for more deluxe versions of Macca's albums or having a different opinion how certain things should be released. And, yes, I do strongly favor the Hear Music team to look into giving "Tug of War" and "Venus and Mars" Deluxe Versions of the albums with (a) Bonus Disc(s) and DVDs, Maybe even a Boxset (!) for "V&M"! If they *can* make Deluxe Versions of other Macca albums that are really well received, have a ton of bonuses, outtakes, live performances during the period, and can be made as nice looking "Special Deluxe Edition" albums, then they should give... "Ram", "V&M", "London Town", "Tug of War", and "Flaming Pie", the deluxe treatment, since those albums are *really* well received Macca albums by fans and critics alike, along with getting more than "4 stars+" on sites like "allmusicguide.com" or "rateyourmusic.com", etc. Also if they ever want to do more "Deluxe Editions" of Macca Albums, then I'd really want versions of those albums like that of "Red Rose Speedway", "Wings Over America", "Back to the Egg", "Flowers in the Dirt", "Chaos.." and maybe a better mastering, complete version of "MAF" to be done in the same way as the deluxe edition of "BOTR". The others albums I don't see getting a ton of bonuses are "Wild Life", "WATSOS", "McCartney II", "Pipes of Peace", "Press to Play", "Run Devil Run", and etc. for the fact that those albums are not that well received, but do deserve another mastering job, even with no bonus tracks or videos included. Also, yes, I'm very sure the Macca Anthology, "Rarities" boxset will come out and include most of the unreleased Macca/Wings tracks out there.. I only added in unreleased tracks to my concepts for lists of tracks for the reissues only to add more to the bonus discs and I didn't add All the known unreleased tracks for each album, I'd just want the Hear Music team, to maybe mix things around throw several unreleased tracks here and there, and include whatever rest they want on the boxset. Also, yeah, I don't think most of the deluxe versions of the albums will include all Macca Non-Albums, maybe the best, like the Stones and their "Rarities" compilation of the B-sides they wanted released again along with "12 mixes, and etc. Either way, these are all suggestions and will never been spoken of until we hear about any final decisions or whatever we want to do/say.
