New Book: Paul McCartney, The Life

DrBeatle:
I've got an advance copy of this new book coming, and I'm excited because I enjoyed Norman's Lennon bio...even given his past bias against Paul, he seems to have acknowledged it and this should be a good book. I did recently review Many Years From Now if anyone is interested: http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com/2016/03/book-review-paul-mccartney-many-years.html
I'm confused. You said you have a book coming. How can you do a book review on a book you have not read? (I used to write book reviews, hence my puzzlement).

Wow, thanks for all the great suggestions!

The book review is on Many Years from Now, not the new one.

Which one? Paul McCartney, The Life? Not yet! I have already a stack of Paul/John/Ringo/Beatle books to read, but will get to soon (I'm mostly retiring effective May 1st)

Thanks! I'm still going in about 3 hours a week to take care of the suture order and stock the specialty suture carts. If I quit totally they would run out of stuff to sew people up with! (they really need to get someone younger trained to do it before I completely retire in a few years!)

Here's my review...I had to sit on it (by request of the publisher) until today when the book was released here in the US http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com/2016/05/book-review-paul-mccartney-life.html

Great review! Your review, along with a few others I've read online, are making me anxious to read this. Detested the Sounes' book, so when I saw this one coming out I pre-ordered it from Amazon, and it is out for delivery today.

Thanks for the review. It sounds like a great read.

Thanks, all! It was a great read, very enjoyable. It's getting picked apart on another forum I frequent, mainly by fellow fans who know WAY too much minutiae about Paul's life. (I do, too, but I don't let it blunt my enjoyment). As a comprehensive look at his whole life and career, I thought it was great.

It's been serialised in the Daily Mail newspaper the last few weeks... unless it's just the way it's been cut out it seems very tabloidly written - and some bits of the Linda article below are wrong (completely ignores the bag o nails meeting for example), but i'll reserve judgement til i read the book (prob from the library first!) part 1 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3554500/Launching-unmissable-series-Philip-Norman-provides-jaw-dropping-insight-greed-lies-Heather-Mills.html part 2 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3558700/Linda-McCartney-not-groupie-liberated-sex.html part 3 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3556870/A-four-bed-romp-pregnancy-nearly-ended-Macca-s-career-began-truth-Sir-Paul-s-rise-charts.html

After reading the parts in the Daily Mail, I will not be reading this book.

Once upon a long ago, I realised it was prudent to ignore the credentials of the English press. I recall one moment, when I was in the bosom of the the great "homeland" (as in I was there long enough - two weeks), reading how the English cricket team, needing a meager total to finally defeat the all-conquering West Indies on Day Five, were being lauded.... Graeme Hick was on the front pages of those papers,... they all of a sudden were loving the guy.... the same guy they had bagged relentlessly..... the English press LOVED their cricket team... it was a certainty.... how much the press loved this team.... Alas, the English cricket team were bowled out for a ridiculous amount and that same English press that lauded individuals turned on them quicker than an old hooker picking up her false teeth. Never trust the English press.
-
We had this same debate on another forum I frequent...those excerpts in the Mail are taken so badly out of context it's like they're from a different book. Don't judge whether or not to read it based on those.

My copy arrived at lunchtime it's very good what I've read so far. In terms of the photos in the book there is little new.
