Is this really "authorized"? Anyone know? Phillip Norman's at it again: http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/philip-norman/paul-mccartney/9780316269407/

From what I have read about the book, Paul didn't sit down to interviews with Norman, but he did cooperate via email to inquiries from Norman. So I guess you can call it "authorized." Can't be worse than the Sounes book, Fab.

I'm looking forward to this book. His Lennon biography was very good by all accounts.

Yeah, that was good. And, he had a gazillion sources listed.

Looks like Paul's finally made with with Phillip Norman, he was livid with him for years at his portrayal in Norman's book "shout" iirc.

I bought that book years ago and read maybe a fourth of it. Never got back to it. Sitting on the shelf. I always heard that Norman downplayed Paul's role in the Beatles.

I read it, and enjoyed it. I NEVER got the feeling Paul was downplayed in SHOUT. Could be Paul wanted something more like..... Paul McCartney: A Life!!!

You mean its likely to be another whitewash job? I hope not as this could be the last chance in Paul's lifetime that we're going to get a fair but accurate biography.

Well, Norman had Yoko looking like a saint in John's book, instead of a desperate person who "stalked John unmercifully because she and her husband were broke and about to be evicted from their London flat (per Tony Bramwell at AROTR live talk, 2013)." I was there and asked the question of who pursued whom between John and Yoko. So, the short answer: Entirely possible.

I hope the author did not do a "hachette" job on Paul.

What is the best book on Paul, to buy?

Depends on the era really. I certainly enjoyed the following books: 1940's / 1950's: The McCartneys * In The Town Where They Were Born ( Kevin Roach) 1950's / 1960's: Thank U Very Much (Mike McCartney) 1960's Many Years From Now (Barry Miles) 1960's / 1970's The Paul McCartney Story (George Tremlett) 1970's Man On The Run (Tom Doyle)

I've got an advance copy of this new book coming, and I'm excited because I enjoyed Norman's Lennon bio...even given his past bias against Paul, he seems to have acknowledged it and this should be a good book. I did recently review Many Years From Now if anyone is interested: http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com/2016/03/book-review-paul-mccartney-many-years.html

I always found Chet Flippo's Macca bio book very detailed and an entertaining read.
