"Memory Almost Full" medley question

I bought the 2-CD version of the album recently, and although it doesn't have a DVD like the deluxe version does (which I also own), the bonus tracks are all on Disc 2, along with Paul's commentary on each song. It's quite enjoyable, informative and surprising. One thing did strike me odd: Paul refers to the "Vintage Clothes/That Was Me/Feet In The Clouds" trifecta as his first time approaching a seamless medley of independent songs since Abbey Road. Would you consider "The Pound Is Sinking/Hear Me, Lover" from Tug Of War, or the "Hold Me Tight/Lazy Dynamite/Hands of Love/Power Cut" medley from Red Rose Speedway to be in the same category?

I never understood the medley thing with "Memory Almost Full" to be honest. It's three indivdual songs 'fully composed' to my ears. There's no link or continuation, it's not like "Abbey Road" where the many snippets makes a greater whole. I recognize the "Red Rose Speedway" medley as a mini-suite. And probably the closest thing to "Abbey Road". Does McCartney remember that he made it...

I totally agree, never thought those songs on "Memory Almost Full" were a "medley".

It's great, isn't it? I was quite glad to hear that Paul loved "House Of Wax" so much that he was anxious to play it live. Also, the commentary explains what "Mr. Bellamy" is all about; the idea behind the Daft Punk-style vocal breakdown on "Feet In The Clouds;" of course, Paul is pretty funny at times, especially his little quip after discussing "The End Of The End." I've said it before, but regardless that "That Was Me" was an attempt to convey a '50s vibe, it is the freshest-sounding production on the entire record -- and quite radio-ready. If nothing else, it was a full-circle moment for me when a live version of it was nominated for a Grammy in '09.

Back to the original question, I don't think "The Pound is Sinking" qualifies as a medley. While it was put together out of parts that began separately it became one song, like a few other Paul songs that have distinct sections that form one coherent whole. But the RRS medley does strike me as completely comparable in terms of form -- though I like the MAF medley infinitely better.

Correct on The Pound is Sinking.... (and still one of my favourite McCartney tracks)... I'll take the Memory Almost Full medley well ahead of the Red Rose Speedway one.... I recall reading at the time of release the latter was hotly being anticipated as Abbey Road-esque. A big let down when brought up with that company. Never thrilled me.

Hey, I'm moving too fast here, it's 1 2CD set, and 1 1CD/1DVD set. I have them both, there might be other varitions but I think these are the two basic deluxe editions.
