The Song Everyone Loves........But You .

Here it goes: Coming Up ops:

Rudolph The Red-Nose Reggae. But, seriously... ..."With A Little Luck" (despite Paul's awesome vocals at the end) Sorry.
-
Never really like Coming up either or Junior's Farm

None of the versions? That song has had numerous incarnations.

I'm not alone! I always found "Coming Up" to be very tacky. "Juniors Farm" is catchy, but I have to be in the mood for it.

I'm afraid not... The only one that I found mildly amusing was a reggae remix that I heard on the PA system before a concert of his started...

I was never really crazy about that song either.

I have no idea what John saw in it that made him want to come out of retirement, unless it was "hey, I could top that!"

Yes! That was exactly my thought, but apparently John really liked the song!

I really like Coming Up. The only time I didn't like it was when he did the song back in 89 on tour. Did not like that arrangement at all. But it was the summer of 80 song and I really liked it. Remember laying on the beach listening to it for the millioneth or so time. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing it. Now in that vein I just don't get the appeal of Junior's Farm.

OK I admit it. Here's the one everyone loves that I have never liked: No More Lonely Nights I think it's mostly the soupy production I don't like. And the "na na na na's" in the backing vocals. (Sorry, Linda). I would much prefer a stripped down version. Someone like Fiona Apple could do a hell of a cover version of this. Someone with a bit of a quirky or rough voice to tone down the sweetness of the song.

No More Lonely Nights is one that I'd classify as good but not great. I like the 2 other originals on "Broad Street" much better.

Remember, the Coming Up released in the US is the live version, which does sound rockier and funkier, the bass coming thru better. The video of Macca doing it is very cool too, he looks great. And it does have a Buddy Holly vibe to it, which John would like. And it sounds a bit New York-ish, which he'd like also. Stuff on Double Fantasy owed something to that, Cleanup Time, for instance. In fact, the live version of Coming Up wouldn't be out of place on that album. You'd have to miss out a Yoko song to allow for it, mind....

Damn good observation!

There is one more I really don't like, which I first remember now but I can't say which one it is because someone on here would stop talking to me. So I'll continue to quietly dislike it ops:
