Hi, i was watching the videos of the other night concert, and while i was watching the opening song (which shall remain un-named for all you folks that want a surprise!), it got me thinking, Paul doesn't make a big grand entrence to the stage, he just kind of walks on. I mean, its still Paul McCartney stepping out to play nearly 3 hours-worth of songs, but i LOVE it when he makes a massive entrence, for example... Hello Goodbye in 2002/2003 -

      Jet in 2004 -
Magical Mystery Tour in 2005 -
i miss the amazing big entrences! bring them back! lol Josh

Thanks for keeping this thread spoiler free Josh. I haven't seen the you tube clip from this tour yet, but I agree it's Paul, he needs a BIG entrance. I remember that Hello Goodbye entrance from the 2003 gigs I attended. The giant Hofner and the siloutte on the screen, followed by Paul and the band emerging from underneath - pure class. He should still do that - not just amble on!

Did Paul lose his appetite for those when the curtain carried his mic stand aloft one night on the US tour, leaving him and the band crippled up with laughter? Martin

Well back in 89/90 and 93, there was a pre concert film...however, upon the conclusion of the film, Paul just walked out and acknowledged the crowd for a few moments

And all this time I thought it was 'Magical Mystery Tour - The Extended Mix'

I have to miss this tour, Phoenix, etc. But I am getting chills just reading about the show, the set list, and glad everyone had a great time! Thanks for sharing. As far as entrances -- ya they are cool ... but when it gets to the knitty gritty, who rly cares, as long as he is still there and touring! What a great accomplishment to still be putting himself 'out there' for his fans!!!! Thanks Paul, even tho I was unable to attend!!! I will continue to read about all the shows, the tours, and everyone great experiences.

... take these broken wings ....

Peace! God bless our troops! Haven't we been there long enough already?

I get what you're saying, and that would be really cool of Paul to do, but I think the difference is that those were really big shows while as the Phoenix concert was about 18,000 people (I believe were the numbers, might have been slightly more). SPOILER ALERT~Plus he had that slide show kind of thing with his remixes, which weren't bad really. CONTINUE(no spoiler)~I understand what you mean, but when you are doing 10 shows and are always on the move, a huge opening seems troublesome and time consuming. He travels with what,31 trucks as it is? I doubt he wanted to carry extra "luggage" so to speak lol He pulls out all the stops for the concerts that will draw the biggest crowd and can be video taped for his tour dvd. I think Phoenix had a good opening, but yeah, jazzing it up a little would be cool I thought it was AWESOME just to see him live though, so no complaints here!! Paul could just stand on stage and I would still come to see him

I actually like his low-key entrances.

                    20/12/09 - Good Evening Dublin
12/06/10 - Up and Coming Dublin
18/12/10 - Live at the Apollo, Hammersmith
20/12/11 - On the Run, Liverpool

I've said it before on this forum, but I liked it when he did that. The film created a little drama about who you were going to see, and built the tension for his entrance. It may be a rock concert, but there's nothing wrong a little theatricality; it would probably help the impact of his current first song choice as well (as would maybe starting the opening bars in darkness). Trying to be vague there, incidentally.

big entrances are alright as a 'one off' and i can understand why hes done it in the past. to me though it all gets a bit self important and silly when he starts including historical events in the pre concert film reel. i prefer the low key entrance and if im being honest i prefer the way he looks in his rehearsals and soundchecks. a pair of jeans and a tshirt/casual shirt looks far better than the formal looking stage gear he wears these days. to be fair during the 'memory almost full' tour he did look good with the black skinny tie and white shirt but he has regressed to his stupid waistcoats since then.

I guess I can see your point; maybe the bigger entrance made more sense when he first started touring again in the late eighties / early nineties. Also, I kind of agree with you about the stage gear - particularly when it comes to waistcoats; something never to be encouraged! 😉 I did think he looked pretty cool in the skinny tie / suit affair though.

I would love to see a grand entrance from Paul, opening with his song before the lights go up. I went to see him in London last year and he just walked on and everyone started cheering, applauding etc. It was good, but I wish he's play some music first. When push comes to shove though, I honestly don't mind, and he'll make the entrance he wants to anyway, but I think it would be amazing, for this current tour, if he opened in darkness playing the first few bars of the opening song and then the lights came up. I think everyone would go wild. I know I would anyway!

I very much agree with this (as I stated myself above). It's what the beginning of the song needs, and would create more impact when he goes into the second half of the first song. (Vague vague vague vague )
