Worst line from a McCartney song
-
"Like gravy, down to the last drop, I keep mopping her up Oh yeah, she's my baby." That's a great line.

To me, it resonates a certain funk...
-
"Something took a hold of me and I acted like a dustbin lid." Ears twitch, like a dog, Breaking eggs in a dish. Do not mock me when I say This is not a lie. Also the ENTIRE song, Average Person. Awful, awful stuff.

I love or like all of Paul's songs, but there is this one...lol He had a boil crisis Once again, it rears its ugly head Prick the blighter

This was going to be my nominee for worst line. It made me cringe when I first heard it, and it has not improved with time.

There are only a very few of Paul's songs I don't like. "Average Person" is one. Often, although I'm a word lover, I'm distracted by his truly wonderful melodies to the point I barely notice the lyrics, so I've not even noticed most of these so-called "awful" lines. I noticed the dustbin lid line before, but I love the sexy song it's in "The Other Me" so that line doesn't bother me at all. I understand from what I've read that "dustbin lid" is an English or British slang term, I forgot what it stands for. I too don't approve of a lot of the "negative" threads which have been posted before about Paul, many of them made me wince, cringe and curse, but this one isn't as bad 'cause I noticed someone recently posted a "What Are Paul's Best Lines" thread. So this thread subject seemed like an okay idea to the boardie who had read that thread, and started this one. It was "the other side of the coin," to use a cliche. Remember, Paul's greatest musical strength is melody, although he's composed many truly wonderful and poetic and meaningful, even brilliant, lyrics as well, in his time Bless him!! WE LOVE YOU MACCA

Paul is guilty of writing some of the greatest lyrics of all time, that's why when something like "12345 lets go for a drive" comes out it makes your ears perk up and go "What?". Also, sometimes it's not what's being sung, but how it's being sung. I mean, how many woah's are in My Love? A LOT! But, you don't think about it because it's a fantastic song. I like this thread because nobody is perfect and even Paul admits to his faults, that's what makes him wonderful! All that being said, I think "Feet In The Clouds" has some of the greatest and worst lyrics all in one. I love the line "My hidden treasure, made to measure, for my pleasure, had it my way" Scandalous!! However, the amount of times the word "very" is used makes me giggle. We get it Paul, you find it VERY hard! lol!

"My teeth smell" or "your teeth smell" a weird phrase in one of his "Ram" songs

It's a totally tongue in check song called 'Smile Away'....and in fact, the line you're referring to is part of techique Paul is a master at...its the way he makes a play on the 'Smile Away' title (I can smell your teeth - a mile away)...almost like the song 'This One/The Swan' except with humor

Good point. The almost exact line in "All Together Now" works because its a fun rant/mantra type of song. In "Driving Rain", Paul attempts to be serious & sentimental with the song matter, so the line comes off completely half-baked.

I've listened to God-knows how many hours of Paul McCartney in my lifetime. There's only one cringe-inducing line: "I'll be feeling blue" -- from 2001's "Your Loving Flame"
-
""On the day that I die I'd like bells to be rung And songs that were sung to be hung out like blankets That lovers have played on And laid on while listening to songs that were sung" It always seemed strange to me that he would repeat the words "songs that were sung" twice in one verse. Seems a bit awkward. JMHO

Anything he wrote for HM is cringe-inducing to me!

I don't know - except for the whispered 'Heather' line, I like the song 'Heather'...and my reasoning for not liking the whispered line is not related to what I may or may not think of Heather...It just doesn't come off very well...

Yeah, but he didn't write Heather for Heather Mills, did he? Wasn't it for his daughter Heather?

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Speaking of that song, I still have a memory of a live version. I just know I heard it somewhere.
