Does anyone know what time they open the Consol Energy Center, or if they let you in early? Can't seem to find that on their website. Just wondering when I should show up. I know how bad traffic and road constuction can be in Pittsburgh.
I've never been to Pittsburgh...is it that bad, the traffic?!! Will I get lost looking for the arena? If I can't find it in the car I will park and walk around until I do find it!! Sound like a plan to me!!

Actually, the CEC is probably one of the easier places to find. Google earth is somewhat helpful although they need to be updated. Detours are quite common in Pittsburgh( from my experience). I think I'm just nervous. I live in WV now and I'm used to open interstate driving 70 mile speed limit, and little to no traffic. Congestion and back to back bumpers make my hands sweaty. --Sorry I didn't mean to make you nervous too. I'm sure we'll all be fine.

I'm not from Pittsburgh and hopefully someone on the board can give more details, but from my experience driving into town, it can be congested going across any of the bridges - not to mention confusing - if you're coming through the "tubes" which is the right exit once you emerge into the downtown?! We are intending to leave Maryland early in the day and get to our hotel with plenty of "mess-up" time built in.

Which tunnel will you be using to come in? It depends on the tunnel.. but the road signs will guide you to the venue pretty much.. They should say Mellon Arena unless they've just changed them to say Consol Energy Center.

We will probably come up Route 51 from Uniontown so I think the it would be the Liberty Tunnel. Since we are staying at the Marriott across from Consol, I guess I'm looking for signs to the arena. I've been to Mellon before but I wasn't driving on that trip.

Just a heads up.. 51 kind of sucks and a not so very scenic route. It's actually quite dumpy the closer you get to Pittsburgh..the actual Steel Mills that exist are around that area. I usually take the turnpike to Pittsburgh and go through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, so I'm much more familiar with that or the Fort Pitt Tunnel if I go the other way. But my best advise to you is to closely follow the road signs once you get to the bridge in Elizabeth. It gets kind of confusing around there. Once you are on the bridge, make sure you are in the right lane.. but don't be in the far right once the bridge ends, otherwise you will end up in the town of Elizabeth. Follow the Pittsburgh sign which is the middle sign.. this will take you down a ramp to the left. Then keep right and follow the sign to Pittsburgh 51 North. This will keep you on 51. Once you get closer to Pittsburgh, make sure you stay in the right lane to get to the Liberty Tunnel. For the first set of road signs you see to Pittsburgh, follow the ones on the right that say Downtown 579/Southside. Do NOT follow the signs saying 51/West End/North Shore Destinations, otherwise, you will end up in the West End which is a nightmare to drive through!!!! Once you've stayed in the right lanes, you'll go down hill a little bit and you'll see to turn into the Liberty Tunnel on the right. Once you are leaving the tunnel, keep straight and go across a bridge.. just follow the sign to the Mellon Arena/579 North. You'll go under a few ramps/bridges then see signs on the right to 279. Take that, then they should have more Mellon Arena signs to follow. There should be one more ramp you have to take to the right towards the Mellon Arena, then you can't miss it!

Man, I hope the drive from the airport is simpler than this.

i am so excited-$321 million new energy center-can't wait to see it-they're saying there's not a bad seat in the house-black and gold seats-hope this piece of copy paper tickets are 4 real... Welcome to Pgh Paul + band. The East End Food Co-op in East Liberty has the best veg cuisine. Hope that's who's catering the affair. Bon Appetite!

I'll be travelling through the Liberty Tunnels as well. I think there used to be a sign "Mellon Arena" on the liberty bridge whn you come out of the tunnels, then it's "hurry up and get in the right lane". My best advice to everyone is check google Earth or Bing (whatever you prefer) and on the day of the concert, check on local tv station sites such as KDKA Pittsburgh, WTAE channel 4, or radio station 102.5 WDVE. They should give you local traffic reports specified to the concert. I will try to find out some info on detours and such and post them here for y'all. 11 days 9 hours 34 minutes/ 12 days 9 hours 34 minutes

There doesn't seem to be much in the immediate area but if you go more into downtown (across Hwy 579) there is a lot to choose from.

That means I would have to take a cab or bus? I was hoping for something within walking distance.
