Mod Edit: This show has now taken place. You may speed past the pre-show excitments and get to the first reports by following the link here: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2347590#2347590 This thread remains the the dedicated concert thread for this date and venue, please continue to post all related reviews, pictures, and any links to YouTube footage in this topic. Duplicate threads on this concert will be merged into this thread. Thank you I decided this give this rumor additional attention with its own thread. From Paul McCartney Examiner:

This was tweeted by Bill King, editor of Beatlefan, who tells us the tip came from the magazine's Brad Hundt, who lives in the area: "New 20,000-seat arena opens in Pittsburgh late summer and they're promising someone 'prestigious' is going to be the first act booked. Hmmm.:

About the new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, opening in August:

"All in all, we believe we have the most comfortable seating arrangement in the entire league," Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer said during a tour. <snip> Mr. Sawyer said the team still is on schedule to complete the arena construction by Aug. 1. Lady Gaga already has been booked to perform at the center on Sept. 5, but she will not be the opening act in the 18,087-seat venue. The Penguins plan to hold some events in the new arena in August, Mr. Sawyer said, and expect to land a "big name" performer to open the building. Just who, they're not saying.

The Beatles performed in the Penguins current home, the Mellon Arena, Sept. 14, 1964, so if Paul opens its replacement it would be analagous to his Citifield inaugural. He also performed there Feb 4/5, 1990.

Paul was actually mentioned on Pittsburgh's news station, KDKA on Tuesday evening. They went through a list of touring "big names" this summer... pretty much ruled everybody out and the reporter said "So that pretty much leaves.. Paul McCartney, who hasn't announced tour dates for August yet" The rumor is huge in Pittsburgh because he hasn't been able to play the current Mellon Arena because his staging equipment could not fit through the arena's doors. It is the oldest arena in the NHL, and the Beatles even played there in 1964 when it was the Civic Arena. Paul hasn't been to Pittsburgh since 1990, and there's been a demand for him here during his recent tours while he's had to skip over the city because of the Mellon Arena.

Another notable mention.. Paul's Up and Coming Tour is supposed to be hitting some cities he has never been to or hasn't visited in a while.. Us "hopefuls" are merely fitting the pieces of the puzzle together

I really hope this happens. The cities announced on the tour so far are too far away...Pittsburgh is only about a hour and half away for me.

And since this is an extensive tour, he might eventually make his way to Pittsburgh.

Article from last month on possible concerts there:

There may be more on the horizon. When the Consol Energy Center opens later this year, big names like Paul McCartney or Bon Jovi could end up christening the center stage. "Everybody knows that a new building is going to have advantages for some of the big shows," Ed Traversari, a promoter, said. "A lot of technical advantages." With 38,000 seats at PNC Park and some 18,000 at the new Consol Energy Center, both have the potential to be popular with performers and fans.

http://kdka.com/entertainment/Pittsburgh.summer.concerts.2.1471633.html Of course this is all just speculation and rumor...but if they are looking for a prestigious big act, can't get any bigger than Sir Paul?! Well thats my opinion at least..

If he is in the Pittsburgh area, he could very likely jump over to the regular areas...NYC, DC, Philly, etc. While yes, Pittsburgh is a "smaller big city", it hosted the G20 Summit. If it can host that, it can host Paul!

They have Lady Gaga coming to the new arena Sept. 5, and they are trying to get a bigger name than her to come before her in August. As someone said earlier, who else is abigger name than Paul???? I'm feeling good about him coming to my town this year! If he could go to Oklahoma to open an arena, he can certinly come here, plus I think he likes that nostalgia of having played the old arena with the Beatles-the new one is right across the steet from the old one.

Well, while Paul is a big name artist and there are few (maybe none) bigger - however, that doesn't mean other artists aren't considered big...heck, even I acknowledge that while I really dislike the kiddie stuff such as Hanna Montana, Britney Spears or whoever the flavor of the day is today, technically they are big names...so the proclamation of 'big name' could mean anyone.

Taylor Swift was ruled out on the Pittsburgh news. And yes, there ARE other big names out there. But the Pens owner said they are getting a quote "Prestigious act" to open the venue.. If Lady Gaga isn't "prestigious" enough, surely Britney Spears isn't either.
