Looks like KOTB will outsell the Wild Life album.
Do we know how much Wild Life has sold since 1971...I'd imagine factoring in rereleases KOTB still has a way to go.
According to this, it was #10 in the U.S. and sold in excess of 1,000,000 copies (certified gold) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Life_(Wings_album) (don't know why this keeps doing that! It was not the URL I copied! Just scroll down to Music and click on Wild Life)
I imagine it's still selling too. Even if it's a small amount.

I thought the "Fresh Air" interview would give KOTB a bump on the U.S. charts, but this is more than I expected. It's dropped off the airplay charts, so this is basically all the promotion it got that week. This is the problem that plagues most older artists: Dylan, Paul Simon, Brian Wilson, Macca, etc. Most radio formats don't play them, so their albums sell during an additional burst of publicity and/or if they tour, then they disappear because no one's hearing them. It's sad. A lot of talented geezers would have much better sales if 90% of commercial radio didn't ignore them.

Whoa, really??? That's a sad statement as to how underrated Wild Life was/is...

Easter dinner and I find out that a couple of my aunts have bought and LOVE Paul's KOTB.... both Republicans who said they would not listen to him again, after the library joke... lol Whew, I'm glad that finally blew over... I didn't bring it up either... : Still it was a nice surprise to be able to mention Paul's music again in the house...

Just to further demonstrate what a big lift KOTB got from that NPR interview, the album was at No. 85 before the interview, leaped up to No. 60 after the interview, and, with no further promotion, is back down to No. 92 on the new Billboard chart out today.

I do actually quite like KOTB but the best thing to come out of this, is that it gives his new album a massive lift and he can put out a big hit!

impressive for this CD. I didn't think it would do this well on the charts. I've liked KOTB from day one. I still play it.

Thanx for bringing this up Nancy imo Wildlife done all-right chart wise considering it got slaughtered in some quarters, getting these chart positions (below) back in the 70's was no mean feat, you had to sell quite a few units just to get into the top 40 back then! the units Wildlife sold on its release would probably be good enough to ensure a few No1's in quite a few countries these days. [edit]Chart positions Chart (1971/72) Position Australian Kent Music Report Chart 3 Canadian RPM Albums Chart 5 Dutch Mega Albums Chart 6 Italian Albums Chart 25 Japanese Oricon LP Chart 15 Norwegian VG-lista Albums Chart 4 UK Albums Chart 11 U.S. Billboard 200 10 West German Media Control Albums Chart 47

True Macs.Think that if an ablum nowadays sells between 25/35 thousand copies. It ends up at no1.If you sold that amount in the 70s you would probably justmake the top 40.

I didn't think Kisses would hang in there on the main chart this long either. And I've still got it playing in my car, too. I tell you it's terrific for calming my road rage and accentuating the positive (I love how he sings that track).

those were the days when singles and albums moved slowly up the charts selling steadily each week, if i remember correctly it took Band on the Run quite a while to reach the top of the UK album charts, when it did eventually reach the summit it ended up at the top on 3 separate occasions.

I'm also still surprised it's had this much of a chart life. I enjoy listening to it still. I tend to think of it as a pleasant place holder until Paul's next album of all new material.

FYI, it dropped to #92 on Billboard last week, so we'll see if the video gives it a lift.

Here's one of my favorite but very old jokes (in reference to your post, LazyD): "Do you know what a jazz concert is? Thirteen people waiting on a melody to break out." "Bah-dum-bump!"

Not sure if anyone noticed but KOTB is back up to No. 6 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. Still hanging in there.

If only it was top ten in the regular charts. Then again, if a lot more of his albums were still in the top ten right now.... Wonder how much it's sold so far total?
