Adele may have sold more now than DSOTM in the UK which is pretty surprising but records are there to be broken, I wouldn't put it down to the rise in population as Floyd's album has been released and re-released for many generations of music fans.
Is that a first year statistic, Adele selling 4M copies in the UK? has to be, right? Cause Pink Floyd has sold way more than 4M of Dark Side in the UK. probably at least 20M, right? Isn't Dark Side the most sold album ever, 250M worldwide or some nonsense?
It was 50M worldwide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums Only Thriller beat it with 65M.
obviously I'm making shit up over here however let me be struck down by lightning right now if Adele has sold more units in the UK overall that DSOTM. ZAP?

I would say DSOTM has sold more worldwide, 250m ww and 20m in the UK tho is way off the mark, I think Sgt Peppers is still the biggest selling album in the UK.
This has Queen's Greatest Hits edging out SPLHCB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_in_the_United_Kingdom
I don't count greatest hits or charity records

Adele is an excellent jazzy guitarist.
Makes me wonder about a duet with her and Paul on "My Valentine." -

Yes, ZAP! Adele's '21' has sold 4,142,00 and DSOTM 4,116,00! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_in_the_United_Kingdom

Dark Side of The Moon has sold over 30 millions copies I think but it was in the charts for something like 13 years.

Teens are driving the sales, as always, and Adele has benefitted from our global Web culture. Things like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube mean that when someone hits it big internationally these days, they hit it really big, really fast. And she has. Or look at One Direction -- a silly UK boy band that came out of nowhere to have a No. 1 record in the US this week -- totally thanks to the Web. It makes the international success of the Beatles 50 years ago -- based totally on radio and the 3 or 4 TV channels that we all had back then -- seem even more astonishing, doesn't it? Or look at Bruce Springsteen's second-week sales. He's been promoting his album like crazy, getting strong reviews, but his album sold only 53,000 copies in its second week. Meanwhile, Adele's 21 album, more than a year old, sold another 148,000 copies in that same week. Now I like Adele's voice. There are some nice songs but neither of her 2 albums are even close to great. And Adele has different co-writers on all of her biggest hits. So these "deeply personal" songs she wrote were partly someone else's work. By the way, KOTB dropped to No. 63 on the main Billboard chart. About as expected.

Don't believe those figures. Have read before its around 35 million. It was pretty successful anyway.

The good thing is: Paul McCartney is on the best selling record and I believe it is one of the factors it reached that

So last night, I was driving home from a boring fund-raising event I had to attend, and it was raining, and a bit chilly, and I was feeling tense, so I popped in KOTB for the ride. And I was struck yet again by how lovely his voice sounds on many of these tracks. So soothing. I know it's not to everyone's taste but listening to it last night again, it was like he was singing right in my ear. It's one of those albums that definitely is best listened to in certain moments in time -- like rainy nights after you've had to spend hours smiling at people you don't really know. So thanks Paul, for helping me relax.

It's definitely an album that fits a particular mood. Today was rainy and dreary, and the album really sounded good to me while I was inside, trapped in my house.

Kisses isn't thru selling, and no matter how much some people want to downplay it's success, for a side project, it has done absolutely tremendously well, sitting at the very top of a major mainstream chart for five weeks! The sales are ongoing!

I think this was already mentioned earlier in the thread, that the sales wouldn't really be over for at least four or five more months. After six months, unless a new single is released, it's pretty much done with its main sales push.
-
I really like the updated version of "My Valentine" that Paul and the band did in Rotterdam two days ago. It'll probably get a "bump" from the tour. But I agree that if another single isn't planned -- or unless the tour results in increased airplay of the current single -- the sales-heyday phase for KOTB has passed.

IMO KOTB is a really good album, very good and other superlatives. Had its place in the market, charted how it should have IMO. still one I will eventually get on vinyl, its that kind of album. total bottle of wine album. I need to do that Paul's song choice on the record is actually really outlandish. there's a lot of interesting and unique songwritey stuff involved in the songs he chose I think. thats another thing I think will be fun when I really get into this album. basically eventually when I get the vinyl. to try to appreciate what Paul saw in the songs. that will be cool shit!
