And now the time is near....

He just needs to look after his voice. One of the jibes aimed at him is that 'all he's got is the Beatles stuff, which was John mainly'.....he needs to do concerts with no Beatles material and show his post Beatles genius.
Uneducated morons claim that it was all John mainly. He's plugged The Beatles for 25 years nearly in live concerts, time to get rid and get his solo/wings material out.

well his solo and wings material is already "out", I don't think that the fact that he plays it live or not would change that much. Still that people is more likely to keep an opinion such as any Beatle song is better than any Paul solo song. They would welcome Rocky Raccoon with more enthusiasm than Beautiful Night. Who cares about that anyway?

Nobody knows "Beautiful Night" unless they own Flaming Pie. They would instantly realize what a masterpiece it is if he played it live. Rocky Raccoon is generally not loved amongst beatle fans, from what I notice. I like it, but it a speck of dust in the shadow of Beautiful Night.

The thing that worry's me is, will Paul's voice ever recover at all? It's quite noticeably got a lot weaker in the last 5-6 years, to me at least.

You think so? I don't really. I mean not "noticeably weaker". Does he sound older than he did 5 years ago? A little...because he is!
But he doesn't have a weak voice. His past two performances have been rough. But that is two nights, and they were one offs. The sad part, is that thye were both televised worldwide, and a lot of people have skewed beliefs on Paul's current state of performance. Which is why, he needs to get his butt back on the road!!!

I think that whatever live concerts Paul does he's always going to do Beatle songs no matter what, that's his legacy, that's what the people want and expect to hear, if he had championed his wings/solo career back in the late 1980's then maybe it would be different now.

I think Paul did this to himself. He never should have gave up playing so much of his own solo stuff.
He showed them what they wanted...when he could have promoted himself.

your right, to be fair to Paul he would promote his albums well in concerts but now that's dwindled since MAF, and we're just left with Dance Tonight and Sing the Changes stuck on repeat mode

The others (them &/or their estates) should be thankful to Paul for keeping the Beatles alive & in the forefront. He is the biggest promoter.

That's the problem, people don't see him as a solo singer anymore, they see him as the official Beatles PR man. It didn't start with his late 80's comeback either, he was singing Beatles songs in Regards To Broad Street from 1984. However I get the feeling that ever since John's death thats what he's most comfortable with. It is very unfortunate because it makes the public think he hasn't done anything, well besides Ebony and Ivory and "The Frog Chorus".

To be fair, I think most people (the "average person") would know Band on the Run and Jet (probably since they play them constantly on classic rock stations to the exclusion of his other '70's songs!) Stuff from the '80's and beyond, no. They definitely would not know the song Average Person!

True but those songs are very overexposed by Paul, particularly BOTR, Jet and Live And Let Die, it makes it look like he only had a handful of hits post-Beatles. When he does these big shows and he picks a non-Beatles number he has a massive catalog to choose from! Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Coming Up, With A Little Luck and Silly Love Songs were all number 1's in the UK/US!

The Beatles is the biggest money spinner, not the obscure solo album track or B Side sadly.

I hope you are right and I'm wrong. I mean they "instantly realize what a masterpiece it is if he played it live", I don't think so... the song is out there, it was a single, it has video, it's obviously on youtube, just like lots of Paul songs. I think it would be a "Toilet Break", but I hope I'm wrong.

But was it truly promoted? Paul went on Oprah, and it was shown then. DId he do any other publicity for the album? The single only cracked like #27 if I'm not mistaken. And people are looking for songs they know on youtube...it would be golden live.

it was promoted over here [uk].nice video plenty of cash spent. its a nice song ,i like it but hardly a classic....if im honest the melody is a bit forced...interesting that it came out the same week as robbie williams angels .......im no fan of 'angels' but it was a monster hit. i think 'beautiful night' would go down in concert about as well as 'cmon people'[yes to most toilet break!!,but not for me i save that for 'get back' or 'back in the ussr']..similar ilk and quality of song.

For instance, Paul did a world-interview in which he received 10000000 of questions or so, for the release of Flaming Pie. So there was massive attention and anyway... Again... I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

That's kind of my point... we're agreeing
I think that no matter on Earth what Paul can write or what kind of marketing he will use. Even if he played a certain new song in every concert... actually Sing The Changes has been played in every concert for years (or Here Today) and it's not like it's popular... The same would happen if he played any other post 1973 song. I don't think Paul has any way of making those songs turn into really mainstream, popular stuff. I wouldn't worry for him... he's got quite a few hits and sales and popularity in his career... I mean the guy is not hoping to be "discovered" or so... sometimes we talk as if Paul McCartney wouldn't have sold a record in his life. Like if he needs recognizition...
like "C'mon, let's give this guy a chance!"
