Ram has just received its best review ever! On the very respected site Pitchfork, it has received 9.2 out of 10! http://www.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16651-ram/
Well, I don't think that is the best review ever of Ram. Here's the review made by George Starostin for example: http://starling.rinet.ru/music/paul.htm#Ram "This is unquestionably the best pop album of 1971 and one of the best pop albums of the entire decade. A true classic." The allmusic review es nice too...http://www.allmusic.com/album/ram-r12641/review "These songs may not be self-styled major statements, but they are endearing and enduring, as is Ram itself, which seems like a more unique, exquisite pleasure with each passing year." And in spanish there are others good reviews of this album, especially good is this essay, is very very interesting: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftheword.beatlesperu.com%2Fram-un-fantastico-album-en-el-cenit-del-rock%2F " In the scenario of 1971, the only albums which in my opinion would be able to compete with those already named Who's next, Sticky Fingers and Led Zeppelin IV. However, the proposed Ram is definitely more innovative and daring than those of the aforementioned albums the Stones and Zeppelin, which continue the line of his previous works, using as source the catalog of blues and traditional country with few surprises relation to gender (perhaps only Latin jazz in the case of those commanded by Jagger). Who's next oozes only, but from a different proposal, creativity, melodic and harmonic richness and the innovative spirit (if the use of synthesizers), which is in RAM, but it surpasses musical daring." Regards, Guille
The George Starostin review looks like a private review, I guess I could write one too that is even more positive. I would say that the one on Pitchfork is the best ever, also compared to the one on Allmusic.

RAM is and always was an outstanding album, It great its getting recognition for something most of us knew already, if we were to believe everything his critics and former band-mates said (at the time) we would have been as well giving up after Band on the Run, when McCartney is great he is untouchable in every sense of the word, for those of you who thought KOTB was some sort of brilliant masterpiece listen to RAM then you might get the feel for what a true work of art sounds like.

Or else someone is trying to sabotage Paul's sales. I ordered the deluxe set from Amazon and it was fine.

Problems with the book, perhaps? The binding on mine is weak but I can't see it as an issue that would warrant returning it. Perhaps some are showing up virtually falling apart?

Carn't remember where I read it(maybe on here)that discs have been turning up scuffed.

You are right! I think at least two people mentioned that the other night.

The main reason i've avoided the Archive programme is the cardboard packaging really doesn't help keep the discs in mint condition, i think with the cost of these items you think they'd have a better way of packaging them.

Good points. I have some empty plastic CD cases I have used when I have had the discs in the car. With heavy use, the little paper sleeves used in the box set could wear out.

That's what i've done myself, but that's if you're lucky that they're not scratched to buggery beforehand, problem is the discs get forced in with no care at all, so 'i've given up buying CD's in cardboard if i can.

I finally have RAM and am not disappointed! Love it so far. I had heard a few of the tracks before once I sat down to it, but the whole thing in all its glory is something else, stunning production and arrangement. Too Many People - what a BRILLIANT opener, and the main bit stuck in my head so far is that little horn melody from Admiral Halsey... Still have some bonus tracks I'm saving up...

New pics on the main site!

Well, finally broke open the box set to see what's inside (two days after purchasing it...LOL)...very nice photos of the time surrounding the Ram sessions...as mentioned by others previously, the physical quality of the book leaves a little to be desired, but the contents are great. I haven't pulled out the CD's or DVD as of yet...saw the card for the free membership (happening tonight) and the free downloads...btw, what are the 22 free downloads?...as far as I can tell, the original album and the CD full of bonus material only make up 20 tracks...So I guess I'm really asking, what are the two additional tracks? The only downside is that I don't find this monstrocity(sp) convient in the least to carry around the car for listening purposes (and the little sleeves the CDs come in does not give me the 'warm and fuzzies' to throw into a car (I guess I can throw them in some empty jewel cases - I have plenty:-))...But I think I'll just by the 2 CD version as well for my listening consumption and hold on to the box set as a 'keepsake' of sorts....If I get the bug for Thrillington or the mono version of Ram, I can always play them on my home stereo...and if anyone finds this to be a complaint, it's not - I didn't buy this huge box set with the idea that it was convenient for banging around a car - it's just me thinking out loud on how to rectify this:-)
