Thanks, I will take a look at that. I really like the BOTR 50th anniversary edition and am glad I got it. It differs enough from the original to make it seem somewhat “new.”

Redoing the 1970s
As we are all painfully aware, the last Archives album was nearly for years ago with Flaming Pie.
With the 50th anniversary of the early to mid 1970s, we have the Band on the Run overdubs back in February which I really enjoyed as the vocal tracks on some are different as well as the instrumental backing. The sequencing is different and it is nice to hear Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five sounded very raw, stripped of vocals. Overall, a nice addition to the Archives edition of 2010.
And now coming in June, One Hand Clapping from 1974, fifty years later. Just ordered the two LP vinyl with addition of the 7 inch disc. Looking forward to hearing this early version of Twenty Flight Rock on the single as this one and the rough one in Get Back from 2021 are as probably as close as we will get to hearing it as it might have sounded when played to John Lennon as a certain church fete on July 6, 1957.
If this trend continues, guess October will see an all early to mid 1970s version of Cold Cuts.
Still hoping for deluxe London Town with various versions of Mull of Kintyre.

RE: Taking a Closer Look at Paul McCartney’s Sneaky Great Late-Period Album ‘Chaos and Creation in the Backyard’
I agree, this album is very special, a wealth of melody and lyrics. It would be great if he would work again with Nigel Goodrich. Thanks to the late George Martin for steering Paul to him and to Paul for doing the great work.

RE: “RAM”, Paul’s misunderstood masterpiece.
I well remember buying my vinyl copy way back in 1971 and then all the critics making me feel like an axe murderer or something since I owned it/liked it. With the passage of time, we have witnessed it age quite well, with some critics now admitting they butchered it as they blamed Paul for breaking up the Fabs.
To these ears, I wouldn’t quite call it a masterpiece but loved hearing Too Many People live back in 2005 and I was one of the lucky ones to hear him do Ram On while in Charlotte in 2010 in the concert, not the soundcheck, where it is far less common..
My vote for masterpiece—either Band on the Run or Chaos and Creation.

RE: Paul McCartney and Wings Reissuing Band on the Run for 50th Anniversary
@john-mackintosh said in Paul McCartney and Wings Reissuing Band on the Run for 50th Anniversary:
My 50th anniversary copy came late yesterday. The underdubbed disc is better than I thought it would be. On the cover, after the name of each song, it says”rough mix.” The album opens with BOTR but then sequencing departs from the released version with a very nice version of “Maumunia” coming next then “No Words.” It differs from the original in more ways than expected in that some of the vocals differ in how they are sung. I hear a gaffe on one with a word half-sung.
1985 is all instrumental, no vocals or orchestration. I miss the big ending with BOTR refrain fade out but it’s nice to hear the piano at work throughout.
Overall, I don’t regret getting this.
An addendum to the message above….after having this for a week,I think the underdubbed Jet is the most enjoyable tack. Minus the brass, you can hear Paul’s sharp drumming. The guitar is more decisive and audible, giving the track and much purer rock feel. Thinking back to the time when BOTR first came out, it was the heyday of bands like Chicago that featured heavy use of brass which I think in the case of Chicago was overdone and ruined some of their songs. I wonder if the is influenced some of the song arrangements on BOTR.
Lastly, the vocal track of Jet is definitely different, some words enunciated differently. He almost hums the ending.

RE: Run Devil Run 25th Anniversary
Bath salts it is!
My wife and I tried finding it on the day of his 2002 Atlanta concert but couldn’t locate it, instead finding construction equipment and road work. I got the impression it is no longer there.

RE: Run Devil Run 25th Anniversary
@jwjames I have always like this album as well. I especially enjoy hearing the rapid-fire delivery of the lyrics of the title track which could be easy to stumble over. I had hoped he would do this song when heplayed in Atlanta in 2002 since that is where Miller’s Drug store is, or was?, and that was the source of the Run Devil Run vitamins but, alas, it was not played live.

RE: Anyone ever visit LIPA in Liverpool?
@njr Excellent idea, especially as there is plenty of time before we head over there in the summer.
Surely, they can answer an email inquiry. -
RE: ‘Magical Mystery Tour’: The Non-Album That Accidentally Became One of The Beatles’ Best
Magical Mystery Tour has so many good memories of hearing it for first time when I was in high school just three years after it was compiled and released.
The audio quality on the 2012 DVD is especially outstanding. Think Giles Martin helped work on that. Which CD release is considered best? My CD from the late 80s/early 90s sounds so poor against the for MMT tracks (title song, Walrus, Fool on the Hill, Hello Goodbye) from the recent Blue Album, Fabs 1967-1970.
