The "Ram" Remaster Thread

MattTC1028:
I FINALLY received the lithograph and t shirt today!! the lithograph had a little bend in it, but once framed you couldn't even notice. The t shirt is GREAT quality. It's American Apparel brand and is a very nice fabric with a great fit. It isn't like most of the normal t shirts that he sells at concerts. I highly recommend ordering the lithograph and shirt! The picture shows the shirt as white, but it's not. It's more of a tanish/light brown. It looks very nice!
Hey good to know, thanks! I hope he's selling the T-shirt at the Horsens gig. Well, LOL not "he" of course, I'd have to buy the whole merchandise stand if he was standing there selling T-shirts.

Interesting article about Ram in the Chicago Tribune that rehashes the critical attacks on Ram and talks about how great the album holds up today.
With "Ram" it helps that, 41 years after its release, it has risen in reputation so that a sizable number of folks now consider it the best solo Beatles album. ... As it turns out, well-crafted, melodic pop, even when executed loosely and having little deep to say, holds up over the years, certainly better than the sloganeering of Lennon's 1971 single "Power to the People" (though not, of course, "Imagine"). "Band on the Run" would become McCartney's most accomplished album two years later, but "Ram" boasts an anything-goes creative spirit that evokes that giddy, hazy era of early '70s pop.
Interestingly there's a comment from Yoko at the end and from Jon Landau -- both of them basically saying Paul's solo work is great. Right, they say that NOW. Here's the link to the article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/ct-ent-0531-mccartney-ram-20120530,0,5430279.story Anyway the most interesting thing is that for the first time (at least I haven't seen these numbers published before) the article gives the sales figures for the re-issues (though I'm not sure if these figures are global or just from the U.S.):
The U2 "Achtung Baby" set, which didn't come out concurrent with other packages, has sold close to 10,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which also reports that the combined "Band on the Run" reissues have sold 103,000 copies, "McCartney" 37,000 and "McCartney II" 23,000.

Interesting sales figures, would love to know a more detailed breakdown...how many were deluxe vs. special edition, etc. Maybe somewhere out there in webland it might exist.

Hi Nancy, the high resolution audio download included with the deluxe edition purchased at Amazon does not include Eat At Home/Smile Away (Live in Groningen, 1972) and Uncle Albert Jam.

It was very good of Yoko to say that Paul is a very, very good songwriter. No Yoko, he is A LOT better than that. And Ram kicks anything the other Beatles did into next week!

after all these years its nice to see Paul's 70's music getting the recognition it deserves imo his 70's output was just as good as anything he released the decade b4.

Disagree It's amazing how over the years the quality of RAM has been blown out of proportion. It's an enjoyable little album, composed quickly and for fun and then finished with a bit more care. But, for one thing it helped establishing the image of Paul McCartney as a rather inconsequential ditties-maker when it was released. So, however much we may enjoy this album now, we shouldn't lose perspective. Signed, grumpy old man

What's wrong with Ringo narrating Thomas the Tank Engine? He does a pretty good job, I reckon. Shame he stopped after a series or two and got replaced by a Ringo-soundalike. I thought you were going to say something about his music, but your comment is equivalent to the "Paul McCartney - frog chorus" comments you're always moaning about, and also irrelevant to what you were saying. If it's wrong to rubbish Paul just because he did a children's song, then surely it's just as far out of line to dismiss Ringo because he did Thomas. Say something about his music instead!! There's nothing wrong with doing children's songs or narrating children's TV shows - unless you do it badly. Decide for yourselves:

Hi Grumpy old man Its all about taste.Imagine was a great album. All Things Must Pass was good. But Paul did it consistently.I would take Ram over these any day.
