It was very good of Yoko to say that Paul is a very, very good songwriter. No Yoko, he is A LOT better than that. And Ram kicks anything the other Beatles did into next week!
I agree cmack.Wipes the floor with any other solo Beatles work.
Disagree It's amazing how over the years the quality of RAM has been blown out of proportion. It's an enjoyable little album, composed quickly and for fun and then finished with a bit more care. But, for one thing it helped establishing the image of Paul McCartney as a rather inconsequential ditties-maker when it was released. So, however much we may enjoy this album now, we shouldn't lose perspective. Signed, grumpy old man
Disagree I seen the quality on RAM when it first came out, McCartney himself loved the album and DID take great care in making it, nonentities at the time were entitled to their opinions, it was more a case of lets jump on the "lets slag off everything McCartney does" bandwagon, its great to see some are backtracking on their opinion of the album now, sadly some still cling to the misconception of Johns words about Paul at the time.

quote-Easygoing Beatles drummer Ringo Starr lamented to Britain's Melody Maker that the album lacked one decent tune before concluding: "He seems to be going strange. That's a bit rich coming from Ritchie who would go on to narrate Thomas the tank "Engine" :
What's wrong with Ringo narrating Thomas the Tank Engine? He does a pretty good job, I reckon. Shame he stopped after a series or two and got replaced by a Ringo-soundalike. I thought you were going to say something about his music, but your comment is equivalent to the "Paul McCartney - frog chorus" comments you're always moaning about, and also irrelevant to what you were saying. If it's wrong to rubbish Paul just because he did a children's song, then surely it's just as far out of line to dismiss Ringo because he did Thomas. Say something about his music instead!! There's nothing wrong with doing children's songs or narrating children's TV shows - unless you do it badly. Decide for yourselves:
Why would I want to compare Paul's music with Ringo's when there is NO comparison?

Hi Grumpy old man Its all about taste.Imagine was a great album. All Things Must Pass was good. But Paul did it consistently.I would take Ram over these any day.
RAM still sounds fresh and full of life where Imagine as much as it is a good (not great) album sounds dated, ATMP imo is one and a half albums to long, still a goodie all the same

The Ram reissue debuted at No. 24 this week on the Billboard main chart. As I recall, the BOTR reissue debuted at No. 17 so this is great.

That's brilliant taking into consideration this is the 4th time its been released and the crap it got when it came out. All in all a truly deserved entry for an album which richly deserves the title masterpiece. Great showing in the States to for Band on the Run, its 5th release and counting and along with RAM & McCartney that's 3 early albums which would knock spots off anything coming out of the other camps. to be continued.....

Cheers Macs & gary. Its amazing how time changes peoples perspectives. When Ram was first released it was all about hating Paul and jumping on the John bandwagon. Afterall Paul broke up the beatles : Ram is a masterpiece. Not only that but Macca's whole 70s output was as good as most if not all the beatles output. Including other albums from Tug of War onwards. ATMP is a good album but would have benefited from being the same length as Ram. Its far too long. Lennon's masterpiece is suppose to be Plastic Ono Band or Imagine. Both albums sound dated and I just don't get Plastic Ono Band.

Yes, this is very sweet indeed. You would have thought Ram was carrying the plague the way those people hated it back then. I never could see what their complaint was. The icing on the cake will be if he does a number from live at the Queen's Jubilee Concert. Here's hoping for that!

My fav John album is POB, is it as good as Ram, the answer imo would have to be no, Ram wouldn't be out of place in any chart from any decade, you can't say that about many albums.

Obviously that wasn't Ringo's best episode. His performances on "Edward and Gordon" and "Trouble in the Shed" are far superior!!

Good job you're not planning on selling it on. Druel stains will tend to lower the value...

My first time owning this album, and I think it excellent thus far! Listend to it 8-10 times so far. It's really good. It's a step up from the McCartney album of the previous year. The production and mix i think is really good for its time. Musically this album is great, I assume the critiscms of it when it was first released was because of Maccas apparent lyrical weakness. But the lyrics are mostly ok, even if they are throwaway in some of the songs. It's fun. I don't understand why Linda was harshly critisized for her vocals. Her backing vocals always lend a brilliant blend into the background and this is credit to her seeing as she wasn't a singer/musician beforhand. she has a signnature sound when you hear it in the Wings and some solo Macca stuff.

Love Linda singing with Paul! I really do miss her voice in some of the songs...so deep & low, harmonizing with Paul. I can just imagine them rehearsing their vocals at home around the house.

I really don't understand why she got so much flack for it. Considering she wasn't really a singer her voice is ok. Really quite nice soemtimes. I have seen that vid on youtube of her vocals only (the rest of the band isolated) on the live recordong of Hey Jude, but that was just unfair. Mostly, i think she was fine.
