Wings Over America & Rock Show DVD Reissue CONFIRMED

And they still seem to be struggling to fit the three slabs of vinyl into the gatefold packaging. The frame seems a bit more sturdy than the seventies version (it has to be, the vinyl is heavier!), but the cardboard still feels bloated and ready to burst. I suppose they might have done it that way for old times' sake The deluxe set is a packaging fest - really nicely done, with bits and bops everywhere. It's fun and it looks rich. The music is nothing new.

It arrived. It's huge. (that's supposed to be a choir of angels singing. ) And it's tremendous. Seriously. Whoever is designing these deluxe sets, I would take my hat off to them, if I had a hat on. The deluxe sets for Ram and WOA are so thoughtfully put together -- so well designed -- that the only thing I'm regretting is that the deluxe sets for BOTR, McCartney and McCartney II didn't have more bells & whistles. It's going to take me hours to go through all the books and discs for WOA tonight!!! I hope that the Powers That Be give the Deluxe Set treatment to Paul's Fireman albums. Can you imagine? The music, outtakes, the art? All in one set? And the biggie: A deluxe set of Paul's B sides and Outtakes. Gees that would be awesome.

i hate to do this but i do have to run out to work... i don't have to to look it up... which album is next? hoping for either RRSW or V&M ... anyone?

Maybe in a year, it will be half the price. Fingers crossed. Perusing the box set, I can see why the price for this one didn't come down. It looks and feels very expensive to put together. The only book that doesn't look like it cost much to produce is the Look book of Linda's photographs, which has a scrapbook feel to it (intentionally so). But the other 3 books in the set are of very high quality.

That's what the flyer said last time ... and we got Wings Over America ...

^the flyer in RAM when I bought it said WOA, V&M, and Speed of Sound, so it's right on. After the next two, I'd like RRSW and Wild Life or London Town. Basically, I hope we get all of the albums up to and including Tug of War first, because to me those are the best of the early ones, and I am not sure why they'd need to remaster some of his newer albums beyond adding bonus tracks (say, everything from Flaming Pie to present).

What a gorgeous package - I'm still of the opinion that the Humphrey Ocean book was pretty unnecessary (and therefore could've made the set a good $40 cheaper and one pound lighter!!) but WOW re everything else in there. The tour book is simply phenomenal - it feels/looks great and just full of stuff fans like us devour, from the repros of concert tickets (front & back!) to the end of tour party invite at the Harold Lloyd estate to the tour itineraries and instrument inventory list (£100 for a Stratocaster in 1976? That's awfully cheap even for back then). Also love the photos of the various arenas - some looking like they barely held more than 10K (even with GA); just makes you realize how fortunate those lucky folks were who were able to attend these shows. Linda's photo journal is of course a treat and the David Fricke book is just lovely. The whole set is simply yummy and a worthy addition to the collection. Oh and the discs sound spectacular! Am downloading the hi-res files now so I really can't wait to hear them - what a treat that'll be. I am immediately transported back to my teen years playing guitar along with the album while pretending to be Jimmy McCullough smokin' through the set! Happy happy days. Yes, the box set has come at a pretty steep cost but the way it's making me feel right now is priceless.

Hello! Please clarify, is there a card with special code inside deluxe box for downloading high resolution version of all audio from the set ?

Yes indeedy! There is the usual card with the special code permitting access to hi-res versions of all the audio from the three discs (original WOA plus the 8 San Francisco tracks on disc 3).

Funny, my impression was just the opposite. I thought Linda's Look book was OK but nothing all that special: after all, Polariod pictures are notoriously blurry. But the Humphrey Ocean book is outstanding. Beautiful sketches and watercolors. And it was such a quirky idea to have an artist come along on the tour. Very cool.

Great! Thanks for quick response. So there's no any exclusive 'download' bonus tracks in addition to 3CD stuff, only digital booklet... Right?

There are no high-res "exclusives" - there weren't any with other sets either. Only hi-res versions of what was offered on the CDs and yes, a digital booklet. FWIW, unlike the prior high-res downloads, WOA is only being offered in non-limited 24 bit/96kHz: there is no limited version being made available. Which is a shame, as I like comparing the differences between the two. But if only one was to be offered, I'm glad they chose the non-limited version.

Has anyone else experienced this with the 'Wings Over America' Best Buy 3-CD Edition ? All three of the CD's came scratched before I could play them. I was at Best Buy and had the Store Manager check them and we went through two copies and sure enough both were scratched because of the lousy packaging that scratched and has scratched each of the PM Archive Editions. As a result, I didn't buy the WOA reissue yesterday. I read on another web site today where another customer experienced the same exact scratches that I did. Does anyone know whom I can contact via Paul McCartney's web site or Management who can be alerted to this ongoing problem with the new reissues ? Steve

That is frustrating, wish I could help you. Just back from Best Buy where I purchased the last one of the 3 disc set It's a wonder my bonus disc isn't scratched as it came tumbling out onto the floor of the car when I opened the packaging. Blew off the grit, dirt and it plays fine. Few years back the DVD with the McCartney II set had glue on it from the labeling that I had to take off with the product called Goo Gone. It still wouldn't play right and even got some of the glue in the DVD player which contaminated another DVD. After additional cleaning, all solved. With your experiences and mine, we can say there is definitely a problem with their manufacturing.

No problems with mine. The only thing I didn't like was that the 3rd CD slipcase was GLUED to the FRONT of the 2CD set...what genius greenlighted that!?

Perhaps I sounded a bit too harsh - the book of drawings/watercolors is very nice on its own. It's nice to have a different perspective and is pretty cool. I mainly object to it as something that clearly added to the cost of the set that doesn't really "contribute" (for lack of a better word) to the package. I know what you mean re Linda's pics but honestly anything from Linda is always welcome. I personally will be amazed if I flip through the Ocean book more than once and if they needed material to fill out the set, how's about input from Mary and Stella about what they recall? More photos of fans from the various cities along the tour? Or again, drop the price $40 and bring this in at a similar (or *slightly* higher) price point to the RAM set? Trust me, it's minor quibbling from me as the set is great but it just felt like filler to push up the cost - if you're going to do that, then more pro shot photos from the tour please!
