What a gorgeous package - I'm still of the opinion that the Humphrey Ocean book was pretty unnecessary (and therefore could've made the set a good $40 cheaper and one pound lighter!!) but WOW re everything else in there. ... Linda's photo journal is of course a treat.
Funny, my impression was just the opposite. I thought Linda's Look book was OK but nothing all that special: after all, Polariod pictures are notoriously blurry. But the Humphrey Ocean book is outstanding. Beautiful sketches and watercolors. And it was such a quirky idea to have an artist come along on the tour. Very cool.
Perhaps I sounded a bit too harsh - the book of drawings/watercolors is very nice on its own. It's nice to have a different perspective and is pretty cool. I mainly object to it as something that clearly added to the cost of the set that doesn't really "contribute" (for lack of a better word) to the package. I know what you mean re Linda's pics but honestly anything from Linda is always welcome. I personally will be amazed if I flip through the Ocean book more than once and if they needed material to fill out the set, how's about input from Mary and Stella about what they recall? More photos of fans from the various cities along the tour? Or again, drop the price $40 and bring this in at a similar (or *slightly* higher) price point to the RAM set? Trust me, it's minor quibbling from me as the set is great but it just felt like filler to push up the cost - if you're going to do that, then more pro shot photos from the tour please!
I just don't see the Humphrey Ocean book as filler. It's art. Pretty incredible art by a much respected British painter. I think it turns what would be a rather standard deluxe set into something special. But YMMV.

Ha - I just had to Google that! Boy I feel old... ops: Certainly appreciate your thoughts. How's about I meet you halfway and say I'd have preferred Paul's sketches/watercolors instead? (Though I imagine he was a bit too busy at the time to do very many! )

Just to switch gears here for a moment, sir paul is here in Oklahoma to play two nights,he might get to witness some powerful storms as well.tornadoes , baseball size hail, etc. it's been nerve wracking lately with one bad storm after another!

I just got my deluxe copy!!! It is awesome!! I can't believe the care they put into it. I was surprised more because I think it is even better then the Ram deluxe set. Which leads me to ask, do you think they could have put a little more into the Band On The Run set? I think with the popularity of BotR looking back on it, what extra tidbits could they put into it or McCartney 1 and 2?

Has anyone else experienced this with the 'Wings Over America' Best Buy 3-CD Edition ? All three of the CD's came scratched before I could play them. I was at Best Buy and had the Store Manager check them and we went through two copies and sure enough both were scratched because of the lousy packaging that scratched and has scratched each of the PM Archive Editions. As a result, I didn't buy the WOA reissue yesterday. I read on another web site today where another customer experienced the same exact scratches that I did. Does anyone know whom I can contact via Paul McCartney's web site or Management who can be alerted to this ongoing problem with the new reissues ? Steve
You're always going to get problems with scratched discs when they're packaged in shitty cardboard sleeves, my pet hate. Your experience will get worse if you want to buy Rockshow on DVD/Blu-Ray as that's coming inside a hardback book, another design that has the disc shoved in with no care. It seems these days that jewel casing for CD's is becoming a rarity, more and more albums are in being issued in cardboard sleeves i'm afraid. : If Paul's management or record company cared about the issue they wouldn't put the CD's in shitty cardboard sleeves to begin with, but i'm not sure they care to be honest, the Beatles remasters come in them too.

You're always going to get problems with scratched discs when they're packaged in sh**ty cardboard sleeves, my pet hate. I don't know why they couldn't put them in nice plastic sleeves. That would at least protect them a bit.

I prefer cardboard sleeves. They take up less space. They're more environmentally friendly. They have a warmer feel (like the old album jackets). I never liked the plastic. I've bought a lot of CDs in cardboard cases and never had a single one damaged. Today I went to Best Buy to get the WOA special edition (or whatever they're calling it) to listen to in the car. And guess what? I got the last copy! Wasn't expecting that. It only came out yesterday. Hopefully they have more in the back but all the ones on the shelves were gone ! So there are apparently some Wings fans in my area.

I like how steve22 only checks in to complain about scratched CDs quite the conversation piece there.

Mine hasn't arrived yet but it was shipped. I only ordered it on Monday after finding it for $103.

I've rarely had issues with CD's until they started putting nearly all albums into cardboard packaging, now i refuse to buy them. I do have a few albums with cardboard sleeves, but rarely do they come out unscathed when you buy them so now i don't go down that road, much to my great annoyance. : To be honest most people don't care if the discs are scratched they just put up with it, my brother would, but i wouldn't, i guess i'm in the minority

I did notice that myself, very odd indeed.

Oh yee of little faith. But then I was just about to speculate that Steve22 was a troll trying to hurt Paul's sales. I just bought the Best Buy edition -- no scratches on any disc!! Quit exaggerating Steve. Fyi, WOA is No. 37 today on iTunes and No. 10 on Amazon.

No problems with mine. The only thing I didn't like was that the 3rd CD slipcase was GLUED to the FRONT of the 2CD set...what genius greenlighted that!?
I had no problems at all with my copy of the Best Buy edition either. And it's only rubber glue. It will pull off.

Got my deluxe box set today. Very nice package. My tour itinerary booklet had a loose piece of cardboard inside, and seemingly exposed binding. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe the piece of cardboard is just there to protect the photos from the screws that hold the book together? Just hard to tell whether this is part of the packaging, or my set is damaged.
-
Mine came today too. Haven't had time to inspect it, but can't wait! Will bring back great memories of May 1976 seeing Paul in concert for the first time and being the best age--21!!

Hello Mine had the same strip of cardboard, I believe it was, as you suspected, for the protection of the photos (maybe in more humid climates the metal studs could rust?)

It's not damaged. I think the cardboard strip is to protect the photos. And the cover is supposed to lie flat like that (otherwise it would rip, I would think). And the exposed binding is part of the rustic design. It's meant to look like a personally assembled keepsake, in a way. That tour booklet is ... gah. Amazing. So many cool elements. I just flipped through it quickly and I can't believe the level of detail. Sheesh. Just read through the band history as well. Lots of great new interviews with all the players.
