THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
Just ordered the super deluxe of Tug Of War. Glad it hasn't sold out yet, was worried it wouldn't be available anymore by the time I got home from work.

Just ordered the superdeluxe version of Tug Of War. It will soon sell out (I bet a few dealers will buy some of those 1,000 copies and offer them for much higher prices in October) and they offered free shipping to Brazil (for the first time), so it's worth it for me. Besides, maybe Paul will be bored on a Sunday afternoon and sit down to randomly sign a few of those Linda pictures... (hey, I can dream)
I'm going to try to have the same dream that's a good one

I'm only interested in the 2 deluxe albums. I wanted to pay in pounds with UK shipping but I stopped completing check out because I don't want to pay over £12 in shipping and vat. I want to wait for Amazon or HMV. I might only save £5, but I don't want to pay the increased costs. What is the discount codes in checkout? How does one get that?

Think I will pass up buying the limited edition deluxe, need to save money. For all those not around in the early 1980s, let me just say that Tug of War was a huge album. Massive airplay of Ebony and Ivory. For many of us, Back to the Egg and McCartney II were somewhat of a let down. I know that Macca II has risen in status since then but it didn't measure up to what he did in the mid-70s. Tug of War was fantastic. Especially interested to hear The Pound is Sinking demo as maybe that will have a longer version of the Hear Me Love part that was actually a separate song, married into the "Pound."

Ode to a Koala Bear .... I should wear Stella's shirt "It's about F****** time"! I can't wait!

I'd like to know that too.

Can I check my understanding that the only difference between the TOG deluxe and super deluxe is an acrylic slipcase and 5 8x10 photos, for more than double the price?

THAT'S EXACTLY HOW YOU SEE IT. A maAAJOR ripoff if you ask me. I bought both deluxe editions for $25 LESS than the cost of the SUPER DUPER DELUXE Edition. A slip cover and 5 pictures isn't at all worth that premium.

So, the hand numbered cards and outside box, were hand numbered by Paul? Someone posted it on another site, any info?

That's someone hoping that would be true. Nowhere does it say anything about that on the PM.com website nor the site selling those limited edition box sets.

Am I the only one who feels really disappointed with these releases? I mean, if you're into big expensive glossy books (and acrylics...), fine, very nice, but if it's just the music and video you're interested in (like me) this is a massive let-down. I thought the excellent Venus and Mars discs represented a major step forward for the archive series, but now we've taken several steps back. In fact, I'd say these are these are the most disappointing efforts so far. Why? Well: -- demos. I know some people like them and that's fine. Personally, they're curios to listen to once or twice, and then put back on the shelf. The finished versions are almost always superior, IMO. However, what is baffling is that Paul/MPL have been incredibly tight-fisted with demos of the accompanying album tracks in the series thus far -- nothing from Ram, V&M or McCartney, for example, yet we know there would've been some. Lots, in fact. The only real exception was Speed of Sound, when there was nothing else to put out. But now, all of a sudden, he floods the bonus discs with demos?? Why? And having taken that decision, where are the demos for 'Seems Like Old Times' and 'Unbelievable Experience'? Which leads me to.... -- unreleased material. Where is it? Apart from the aformentioned demos, reliable sources tell us there are full band, finished versions of 'Stop! You Don't Know Where She Came From' and 'Old Times'. Plus a reprise version of 'Tug of War', a full finished version of 'Blackpool' (intended as B-side), the Stewart Copland-on-drums track 'All in Love is Fair' (aka All The Love is There), 'Any Younger' (originally part of a medly with 'Sweetest Little Show'), plus other demos of give away songs like 'On The Wings Of A Nightingale', 'Runaway', 'Attention' and 'Private Property'. No doubt some will argue Paul doesn't want to tarnish his legacy by putting out sub-standard tracks, but (a) that's ridiculous (b) how do you explain earlier releases of atrocities like 'Womenkind', 'All You Horse Riders' and 'Message To Joe'? This kind of stuff is aimed at the hardcore fans, so why not put it out? And I'm presuming 'We All Stand Together' from these sessions is being saved for Broad Street, but who knows? -- Remixed 'Tug of War'. Why? What was wrong with the original for the past 33 years? I wouldn't mind so much, but it really irks me that I have to buy the mega-expensive deluxe version to get the original mix. Shouldn't it have been the other way around? A rip-off. Talking of which, we get a new remix of 'Say Say Say', but not the original 12" version? WTF?? -- video content. We get the usual piddling few minutes' here and there of home movie footage, plus already released music videos. But not, bizarrely, the solo video of 'Ebony and Ivory'!! Or any TV promotional work he did for either album. Or the rumoured video made for 'The Man'. And why couldn't they have interviewed Paul about the making of the albums, and stuck that one? Poor, really poor. I feel particularly let down because these are two of my favourite Macca albums -- favourite albums, full stop. They are stellar works and while I concede it's great to finally have them remastered (with the B-sides at last!), it could have been so much better. You only have to look at what Led Zepplin have done on their new re-release of three (count 'em) albums to see McCartney fans are being sold short here. Particularly when we have to wait a year between releases. I love Paul's work, and would defend him to the ends of the earth as an artist and as a person. And it may be the fault of Concord Music or his advisors at MPL. But, really, we deserve a lot better. Sorry to be negative but with a bit more care, these packages could have been mind-blowing.

yeah, but also, if a press release would have said: 1000 limited editions ALL hand numbered by Paul himself for only $149, I think it would have been chaos and sell out within SECONDS. Let's wait, still curious WHY the 1000 boxes and the 5 postcards are ALL hand signed.. what's the point of that if Mr . Smith from Universal or Concord would do that? Just for a plastic case and 5 postcard or photo prints a limited box cost more than twice than the regular Deluxe?
