A long time ago I heard Paul wrote Somedays feeling/knowing that Linda was going to die. Is a song made for her?

Never saw that video. Great!! But Paul always put his "emotional shield" before talk about sad things. He said "she liked it" and nothing more, but Somedays doesn't feel just like a love song... it has dramatist, sadness, like a man who's preparing for a whole new life. In the previous months before she left, he always said that everything was going ok and she will carry on. It's in his nature, the optimist and happiness will always be his emotional shield when a camera is over him.

Oh that really brought tears to my eyes... Such a beautiful song... Loved seeing the video of Linda riding, waving her hand in the air! So touching, thank you for sharing that with us! Every love song he had written was for her...thats it really, isn't it? Some great videos to watch on the side of that!

The most prominent recollection I have (regarding Paul's story behind the song) is how he had written it while penned up in his Long Island house (due to a hurricane)...although as I write this, I'm not sure if I'm confusing the story with the story behind Calico Sky

Listening to only the song, the message I'd always received was that he sounded like he was ready to grow very old with her.

                    I think he knew.

My instant reaction to the Flaming Pie album, once I'd listened to it enough to process it, was, "This man is scared to death that his wife is going to die." And Somedays is one of the songs that left the strongest impression on me in that regard. When you listen to the song and consider the context, it just jumps out at you. The instant I heard the line, "Somedays I cry, I cry for those who fear the worst," I had this immediate, gut reaction that it was about him and Linda. Whether that was conscious or not we'll never know, and he'll probably never say, but -- take it from someone who's lost a loved one to cancer -- once you hear the c-word about someone you love, your world changes utterly and forever.

I so agree with you. I think we have discussed this before. I had a loved one going through that c word at that time & it seemed like practically every song had some connection to an illness...or you could read that into it.

Despite that, Flaming Pie it's an incredible album. The best since Tug Of War. Pain and sadness gave Paul a brand new force.

Speaking of Linda, I ran across this interview with Paul from late 1998. http://arizonalily.org/lilyflower/club-sandwich/Grab-Bag/chrissie-paul-interview.shtml I have no idea how I ran across it the first time. I was so impressed with it, that I copied the text into a word doc in case the link were ever taken down.

What I remember most about Somedays is : Playing Flaming Pie for the first time on the day it came out & when Somedays came on, I couldn't stop crying & feeling for the first time I was hearing emotion coming from Paul in a song...you can hear the pain. My Mom was sitting across the room & she even said ,wow, Linda must really be sick.. It still gets to me now & also the Calico Skies & Beautiful Night videos..(.. :

I go back so far,I'm in front of me

Really great to re read the interview. I hadn't read it since first seeing in in 1998. Funny how 16 years went by so fast...................
