My VIP Live 8 experience.

What was the story with the VIP "golden circle" tickets? Were they just available to selected VIPs, or could you pay for them, or what? I was just wondering if it was a situation of having to "know someone" or if people got them through radio contests, or exactly what the deal was. From the aerial photo it LOOKS like there were not that many people in the golden circle, but I can see that the crowd was huge, so I am sure looks are deceiving. Anyway, congratulations. Some of the concert(s) reminded me of the Concert for NYC, which I was lucky enough to attend. The Who, Bon Jovi, Paul... I didn't get to see all of Paul's songs, so I hope there is a link somewhere where you can replay just certain performers. I know AOL has the whole concert on replay, but I just want to see the Paul parts. Anyone know how to do that? ~Mary
VIP tickets were given to selected people, I saw a few journalists I knew there, some competition winners, and ClearChannel were selling them as part of hospitality packages for aorund £800, which included 2 nights in a posh hotel over the road from the park, which would explain some of the Europeans near me. I had a purple wristband, but there were people with baby blue bands on and they looked like competition winners.
Hospitality packages with golden circle seats and breakfast and aftershow dinner for £550 (not including hotel) were offered. Compared to similar events (the Super Bowl, Wimbledon, etc.) it sounds like a good deal, but I don't see how you could expect a business acquaintance to attend a 10-12 hour outdoor concert. I wonder who bought all those packages? More importantly, what was the purpose? I received the materials, and there was no description about whether the funds were going to charity, and no description of the causes being supported by the Live 8 event. It looked just like a fanasylum package -- kind of odd for a charity event.

So did you get one of those packages, then? It was good for all the overseas fans who had no other way of getting tickets, I guess.

Roos, I spotted you too, and wondered if you were boardies! Did you stay at the front the whole time? What a vibe!

I should go for a visit to London with a friend. She had never been in England and I have been several times with my husband in London. So, I should show her the way. Three weeks ago, there was a friend of Bob Geldorf at the Dutch radiostation Radio II. He was saying that only the English people could compete for free tickets by the lotery. What we didn't know, that the guy left 10 tickets at the radiostation. A week later the dj of Radio II told, that you could earn 5 times 2 Golden Circle Tickets for Live-8! On the last day, monday, my friendgirl did win two tickets! That was extraordinary! We were so very happy. Wednesday we arrived in London and Saturdaymorning we got up very, very early and went to Hydepark for further sleep. There we were the number 20 and 21! And in this way we found a place in the first row. It was very exciting. It was again a dream!!! Live-8 2005 London and we were there too.

Yeah, we looked good? Weren't we? ! In this way Paul spotted us too. Yes, we have been standing there for twelve hours. Don't ask how we arrived the hotel afterwards. We goodn't hardly move our legs. But it was worth, sure it was. Paul was great as ever and a big surprice that he wasn't singing all alone 'Long and Winding Road' at his piano, but he was there with his complete band and he played five songs. It was great. A day in my live whitch I never will forget. In September I already should gonna Roll It With Paul McCartney in Miami! That will be great again. A very unexpected wonderfull year for me.

Very cool that you won them.

I was at Live 8, but no where near the front. I was about half way back actually! Even though i was quite far away from the stage itself, it was still amazing! Paul totally rocked (as always) and the duet with George Michael was fab! I thought it was a shame that people had to leave early because it over ran so late. There were people flooding out during Pink Floyd... such a same for those people.

Roos, we saw you with the AAM shirts and everybody on Paul lists in the US was wondering who you were and now we know! Lauren, I still don't know how you stopped them from taking you when you passed out. I remember well how they were passing people over the crowd in Liverpool in 1990. You are very privileged to have been in the Golden Circle. I envy you and I'm glad you really enjoyed yourselves.

No. I did not want to take any clients, so I bought a regular GA ticket for 200 pounds (from a broker, sorry about that Bob). In retrospect, perhaps I should have done the hospitality package. The organization (I think the name was AOK Events?) seemed to be very responsive and very professional.

The packages were from Clearchannel, or at least they were the main people offering them.

Roos, we saw you with the AAM shirts and everybody on Paul lists in the US was wondering who you were and now we know! I'm a big fan of Paul since 42 years. I have seen Paul several times. In Oslo (2004) I did have a very great time! Waiting for the concert, standing 10 hours in a line. But.....I was standing in the first row and Paul did see me already by the beginning of the concert. He was talking to and joking with me from the stage, because of my banner. In the end he came to the edge of the stage, to give me his gitarpick. But I couldn't catch it, because I only could use one arm, however I just got an operation at my shoulder. Paul said that he was very sorry, but the other guys were wating for him to take the applause. I told Paul, that I came back to collect his gitarpick. So, I have a mission to get the gitarpick somewhere, someday. And thatswhy I will be at the openingconcert of the 2005 Roll It With Paul McCartneyTour in Miami.

I spoke with people at AOK Events (www.aokevents.com), and they seemed very professional. Some of my clients have used their hospitality services for sporting events. A couple of questions for London based boardies: (i) from my vantage point, it seems that the crowd went absolutely wild for Robbie Williams, whom I had never seen before. Is he that popular? Is he like this generation's Cliff Richard? (ii) basically, it seems like everything is about double the price of the US; EXCEPT for concert/theater tickets, which were quite reasonable. Is my perception correct, and if so, is Paul able to charge $250 - $279 the way he does in the US (not to mention $350-450 for the Stones)?

we were all over London, desperate to meet Paul, but we didn't succeed. We also were at the BBC studios, radio 1, but too late (at 16.00), the guard said Paul left 40 min ago But Paul was great in Hyde park, and he smiled at us. We are sure it was because of our t-shirts. O no !!! It was because we looked so lovely We slept in a hotel at Cromwell road, and in Hyde park.
