Cell phones: the good, the bad, the ugly
-
I have posted similar. Now it gets a thread of its own. I can complain very easily about them. Here is my positive as a start.... Last year my car broke down - I was able to call and text four or More people to get picked up, arrange for It to be towed, cancel plans, and let a business Know I would be late to pick something up - Which they stayed open for me ... All in Minutes of pushing the car off the road. Something similar happened years ago And I walked over 10 miles ... To take care Of things .... Which was the reason That I got my first cell phone .... My complaints are likely a long long List ... So that is the good this time...

Just watched a program on TV where this couple were able to be rescued off a mountain in freezing temps because they were finally able to get a cell phone signal and call for help. They were even able to text a screen shot of where they were on Google maps. They surely would have died if not for the phone.

They probably have new symptoms listed Cell neck from looking at it Thumb things Selfie stuck ....etc... Gone are manners .... And why do you have to talk so loud?!

I saw that too. My thoughts were that they should have not allowed themselves to get in that situation to begin with by using the internet to be more aware of their potentially hazardous situation, in which they not only risked their own lives but those of their rescuers as well. Sadly, there are many people who negligently take advantage of these modern day gifts that we have.

I was thinking the same thing - they hadn't checked the weather, got a late start, and kept going when they should have turned back hours earlier!

This and I don't know how to take a screen shot!

I witnessed someone in line, talking loudly, of course, totally ignore the clerk, when it was their turn, and they were keeping everyone else behind them waiting... The clerk asked a question that was ignored...and so she proceeded to wave the next person in line up, and ignore the loud talking customer...when they finally got the phone on hold and sputtered their anger at her. The rest of the crowded line was silently cheering her with their support, which the person on the phone didn't see!!! I was also giving her the thumbsup.

Looks weird when you see somebody walking around seemingly talking out loud to themselves, on and on. Then you notice that odd looking device on their ear
Cell phones appear more reasonable when you think about that. Drag that they tear up, get lost, broken, stolen, etc., so easily. And all kinds of angst getting them recharged. Plus the itty bitty screens on them. Jennifer Aniston made an amusing observation. "You couldn't have 'Friends' t.v. show today, 'cause they'd all be sitting around staring at their phones (instead of interacting)."

I took someone to outpatient surgery... I was the driver. As I was in the waiting area.. Everyone had a cell phone - Staring at them. There were magazines on the tables that weren't being read ... Years ago that is what people did In the waiting area. Later the person who I drove there and to their home - asked what we Talked about in the waiting area I said that nobody talked - They just looked at their phones. That is today's world.

I have gone to the local pub after work to get a drink and chat, however, lately I've noticed that people aren't talking, they're sitting at a table looking at their phones!! Is there something subliminal going on, I wonder. A convenient way to control masses of people. There have also been some horrific car crashes with 5 car pile ups and the like. I can't help but think they are caused by someone on a cellphone.

I was crossing a road with my mountain bike .... I had the right of way and was walking the bike. A lady was talking on a cell phone and turned left and almost hit me - I am not exaggerating I saw the bumper way up close. I flong the bike one way and I rolled the other way. I got up yelled at her car and gave her the finger. (Though it wasn't noticed by her). Some guy waiting in the turn lane - said that he saw the whole thing and said she was oblivious to all of it .... if someone told her she almost hit someone - she would have denied it - because she never saw it. It was an easy to see intersection if one was watching the road and what they were doing. Multiply that by the many out there on their phones driving along and lost in conversation. It's not every time ... it is just that "one" time of not giving all - to paying attention. I was a bit scuffed up .... even walked my bike slightly to get okay again. These things never seem to have the impact when telling them but when you are in the middle of it - it scares the crud out of you.
