Tattoo signatures - yay or nay?
-
Me too, I don't want to offend anybody and I'm even somehow a bit jealous on you who have managed to get his autograph, but I was wondering as well about Paul signing on girls bodies on stage, looking at the footage of Pittsburgh. I may be kind of old fashioned (born 1961) and not so into tattoos as many youngsters seem to be these days, but I also think these kind of requests might bring Paul into an awkward situation. He's always been such a nice man, he has always felt bad about resigning a request from his fans. Nowadays the requests seem to get a little out of scope, it seems, at least to my opinion. If you want to have an autograph-tattoo, why don't you print one -e.g. from the internet or even a real one- on your body and have that one tattooed, while preserving the real autograph elsewhere? Thus not embarrassing Paul, and other fans, watching the scene. Paul always stresses he likes to be as normal as he can be, it's us, by requesting him freaky things like this, who make him act weird. ops: I love Paul the way he is and always has been and I think we all do. Don't let our silly fantasies and request make out some kind of Michael Jackson of him. By the way: in London Hyde Park, nobody's got tattooed or kissed on stage, nor in Arnheim, Holland. Maybe this is a typical American thing?

Thats what I am thinking, because to my knowledge it hasn't happened in Europe/UK. And I hope it stays that way.

to the last two posts. A printout was how I got my Wings and Beatles tattoos. It's still just too strange to me.

My 2 cents (again): If Paul didn't want to do it...trust me...he wouldn't. The man is not being forced. I would never want him to do something he isn't comfortable with...but considering HE read my sign and HE called me up - my guess is HE wanted to. It's a once in a lifetime chance to meet Sir Paul - I'll never ever regret it.
-
and here i go again too paul would never ever do it if he didnt want to or if it made him look bad! if you saw and heard what he says on stage when i say sign my arm he says nooooo you said thigh! so he wanted to!!!! he enjoys doing this! its not really about the tattoo for me, its me meeting paul AND TO NOTE I WAS WEARING SHORTS UNDER MY DRESS!!!! he has done this about 8 or more times so far! so get use to it! its something he enjoys! im sure he has signed over 100000000000000000000 album covers and tshirts! why not skin? so i can turn it into a tattoo! i have had an apt for about 5 months to get my entire back done of the beatles and this theme i have up, so yea i could print it out, and tattoo it, but if i could get to meet paul, and get a tattoo FROM HIM im going to do it! its not every day you can say you met SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY and have a reminder of it EVERY DAY! i think its neat! different and i wouldnt take it back! plus paul likes it! he PICKED ME not his crew
-
^ Maybe people just don't like you asked for your thigh to be signed. I don't know why all the hate is going on..I think it's a wonderful thing.
-
^ i wanted him to sign my arm, but i needed a catchy saying that rhymed for my sign, and my DAD who hates tattoos came up with it! he is 61, he even paid for the tattoo.. he is so proud

Ahaha, that's awesome. My family just thinks I'm crazy.

I think anyone can ask to have whatever they want signed and Paul can choose to sign whoever/whatever he wants -- just that the tattoo thing has lost it's originality. And I have yet to see a man or an older woman get signed (maybe they just aren't into tattoos and so aren't asking -- or maybe Paul just likes the cute young girls. Go figure. : ) If I ever get to go to another Paul show, I want a stuffed Paul doll for him to sign -- or a stuffed Hofner pillow -- or something. But it needs to be something different that would catch his eye.
-
But now, I think people only do it to meet Paul McCartney. The first girl who got the tattoo I thought, how very original but since it's so repetitive I don't really think it's "special" anymore.

Trust me.... it's very, INSANELY special.

marta from philly is in her 40's i heard, i am 25/26 in a week.... if it wasnt original or if it didnt catch his eye, it wouldnt work! i mean, when this tour is over, i think he wont do the tattoo thing any more so for the mean time, its working and im glad because i made my dream come true, i hugged, kissed and touched a hofner bass ... oh and it was PAUL MCCARTNEY

Just wondering... Where has MACCA"S TUBA PLAYER BEEN???? Audrey..where are you? You are the first one who got a tattoo
-
She checked in.

This is totally interesting for me, and to be completely honest, I have mixed feelings FIRST OFF: Congrats to you other tattoo-ees!!!! Sarah, Jen I know what it feels like, and there are no words...believe me, you'll remember every detail for the rest of your life! I've been lurking lately, and I'll admit that I'm pretty addicted to fb and don't get on here much anymore. The chance to meet Paul, as you no doubt can imagine, in absolutely incredible and I would not trade anything in the world for my experience in Halifax! The fact that he acknowledged me was enough, but to comply to my request was the most wonderful moment. I want every real fan to experience something with Paul, it's a special moment in one's life. I want people to see that he is genuine, because alot of people doubt his sincerity. On the flip side, it seems to be less special if he just does it all the time. Like when he tells the same story over and over, it looses it's special value...just kinda like "Oh he's about to talk about the this again". (although I could watch him ramble aimlessly for hours about nothing and would be happy as a clam). Someone said that there were a bunch of tattoo signs in the front - and I think if you are a sincere fan, one who is with him thick and then and longs to know more and more about him, by all means you deserve it (like a large amount of the ones he has so far been signing). But any ol' person could get up there and be like 'Oh I just love Octopus's Garden will you sign me?'. Ya know what I mean? I thought the hug sign was cute

Thus not embarrassing Paul, and other fans, watching the scene. This is just bizarre. There were plenty of signs in Pittsburgh asking for hugs, tattoos, kisses, etc. He decided he didn't want to hug and kiss and sign other people in the audience, he could have easily not signed me. He did not bring me up on stage because he felt bad for me, he did it because he wanted to. Since I was at the end of the show, I thought he was just going to sign me backstage. The guy who takes his guitar at the end went up to ask Paul what he wanted to do and he decided to bring me up onstage. He obviously enjoys it and I certainly didn't embarrass him. This is just ridiculous! We met PAUL MCCARTNEY. Trust me, it doesn't get old.

Oh...and.... : :

I have to back up the tattooed girls on this one, as I'm one of them. lol I don't think our Paul is feeling awkward about the tatoo thing, as he is choosing those signs to read mid-concert as opposed to the "Please play..." or "I saw you in '64" signs to read the "Please sign my Hofner tattoo" signs. At over 50 years in entertainment, and after experiencing a myriad of strange fan requests, I don't think he's terribly embarrassed. Just look at the videos and photos of him signing people on stage. Oh, and he did sign two people in England--one at LIPA, and one gentleman on the street. And I also have to agree that even though I wasn't the first, just the fifth, person to get an autograph/tattoo, it certainly was more special than anything I've experienced before. D Can't we all jut enjoy Paul and stop nitpicking over the small stuff? He just came off an amazing tour. Let's focus on that! wink
-
I'm with all the tattooed ladies here. If Paul didn't want to sign them, then he wouldn't have done it. At the concert, you could tell that he was really having fun with it. It was fun for us to watch and see a fellow Macca fan onstage. Plus they get to have a reminder of that incredible meeting with Paul everytime they look at the tattoo!!

I guess I'm representing the "older woman" as I am indeed 41. ops:
