Tattoo signatures - yay or nay?
-
Funniest reaction to an autograph tattoo I've ever read
-
" He had another name there so I didn't feel too weird but what does it imply? Are we married somehow? Do I owe him? Am I going to be brought in as a suspect if they find him dead? Will it end up being inked over if I don't return his emails now? Complicated." Very funny!!!

Yeah.... now I think people only do it to get to meet Paul rather than the love of the tattoo. Now he's doing it two at a time

I'm afraid it's just part of the show now, ladies.

Can we learn to be happy for lucky people? He has to sign stuff all the time. Has the experience of meeting him and getting an album or a t shirt signed been cheapened? I don't think so, and he's done that countless times. Some people prefer to have their signature in a frame on a wall. I prefer to have mine with me at all times, it's a personal choice. Congratulations to these girls who had the best experience!

So true I hope that someday I might be so lucky as to have Macca tattoo me I'm trying to decide on a photo of Macca to get on my thigh (to cover a rose that I no longer like looking at!! haha) .. & I'm hoping to get a signature either above or below it. It may seem stupid to some people, but if it's the only way I'll get to meet Macca, so be it!! But, I also *LOVE* tattoos & have an MJ one on my back xxx

But that's not the point, the point is that when it was originally done in Halifax, it was new, original idea and a real big surprise. And I was happy, and I thought that girl was very lucky. Now these tattoo sigs are almost a dime a dozen, he is taking two *girls* up at a time... not original any more and not surprising either. I appreciate that these girls are getting their moment and whatever, I do but I can't help but wonder if it wasn't done at Halifax in 09 would it be done at all. He has yet to bring up a fella, or even a middle aged or older man or woman. I personally wouldn't want anybody's signature permanantly on my body, not even Paul's.

Couldn't agree more with you.

^ Agreed. I can understand DCBeatle saying it's been cheapened now, maybe not for the person getting signed, but for those who have been signed before and those of us keeping track. It isn't as special and exciting as it once was, it's expected now. I mean..you can actually say now to yourself while at the show and to the people around you, oh, this is the part where he'll bring people up to sign.

Totally. Still hasn't signed a 1st generation fan either.

Thank you. This is exactly how I feel about the signing of body parts. Should have stopped after Audrey or at least not be doing it at every single concert. Two at a time? Ridiculous.

In Paul's defense though he did a sign a guy and three older ladies..

I think what aakiboh means is that, if a fan met Paul outside the venue and got an autograph (say, on a piece of paper, or an album, etc.) boardies would likely be happy for that person. Would he/she be the first to ever meet and get Paul's signature? Hardly. But - it wouldn't be any less exciting. So - why is this different? Paul appears to be a creature of habit when it comes to his live shows. From stories, to set lists, to now the signings. There isn't even this much complaining about the same ol' setlists (although, I know there is quite a bit ) I guess I still don't understand all of the negativity. Ah well - to each his own.

Being a first generation fan, if Paul walked into my home and offered to sign my arm so I could get a tatoo, I would have to respectfully decline. Somehow I think I'm in the majority of first generation fans with this and I'm guessing he gets barely any requests from that particular group. But who cares? It's amazing how many could have, should have opinions people seem to have rather than just being amazed that he's able to perform so well and in front of 50,000 mostly younger fans. Maybe the question should be is why don't that many first generation fans support Paul in general these days. Most of the people I've seen at concerts are younger than I am and are more in the Wings generation of people. Of course I don't want to know the entire answer to that, but Paul is playing to his current crowd so why shouldn't he do it? If you don't like tatoos that's fine, but it seems to be a crowd pleaser and Paul is always about pleasing the crowd. One of the reasons I've been a fan for so long.

I am very happy for all those he has done it for, must have been an amazing thing, but I feel like it has become part of the act and less special for those who got it in the beginning and he has been selective over who has got one, it was spontaneous the first time now its just disapointment if he doesnt do it
-
Yes it's become part of the act now. So have the fireworks for Live and Let Die. It's what he wants to do now. It may change someday, but it's just that little extra thing to add a bit more fun to the show. I don't know why people don't seem to understand that Paul is putting on a show. Lots of performers ignore their audience to 'appear' cool or because they just have no personality anyway. This is Paul, and choosing to be a fan of his, this is what he is doing now. Nothing more nothing less. When all is said and done I don't think that it will amount to that many people on this earth walking around with a Paul McCartney tatoo.
