Tattoo signatures - yay or nay?

I forget who made the suggestion on the board, but someone had an awesome idea to create a fake eBay item of a Paul tattoo...I'm thinking it would be hysterical to do it, and proof that not only young, attractive blondes are catching Paul's eye...lol :
hey I wrote that on my facebook page 18 hours before it happened

I thought I'd jump back in to this post as one of the newly-tarried. I've counted about eight or nine people who have been signed by Paul since Audrey began the movement. While I feel bad for those folks who have waited since the 60's to meet Paul, I am not so sorry that I'm going to let it ruin my happiness. No, I'm not blonde, nor am I good looking, nor am I particularly young. I'm a frumpy school teacher from Vermont who chose to spend too much money on the soundcheck package, hoping to meet Paul in a smaller, more personal format, and it worked. I didn't get on stage, I got to the side of the stage. I chose to use my moment to secure a permanent reminder of the meeting. That was my choice. Whether you agree with the tattoo phenomenon or not, I hope as fans we can all agree that if a boardie gets to meet Paul, we should all be supportive. And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Well said and I applaud both of you for being the lucky ones Paul picked to come up on stage. I agree that this phenomenon of the tattoos is only "old hat" for those of us who are constantly reading the message boards and are immersed in Paul-land. It might get old to some (as do some of the "jokes" and "banter" etc) but IMHO, every second spent at a Paul McCartney concert is time WELL SPENT and if you can get up on stage MORE POWER TO YOU. I'm a little excited about this latest trend of him pulling people up on stage, since I am going to both Pittsburgh shows. I hope it continues!!!!
-
I think this trend is exciting as well! I'm going to desperately try to be the luckiest person in the room on August 18th in Pittsburgh and hope that he signs the Blackbird tattoo I have on my shoulder. It would be more than a dream come true to see his signature tattooed for the rest of my life and remember the moment of meeting him. I also happen to be a young female (20 years old to be exact). I don't think that matters at all. I've been listening to Paul's music since I was born and am a bigger fan than most older people I know. I'm putting myself through college with scholarships and bought the tickets for all 3 shows I've been to with extra money I've saved up. I also don't think the amount of people he's signed lessens the experience of meeting Paul McCartney, let's be honest! I have a seat in section 4, pretty close to the front. I'm so full of hope and excitement, I know everyone can't be that lucky, but I've got to try! Here's hoping August 18th, 2010 is the best night of my life! Alvita

I think it's a lot of fun. I wouldn't want to be signed on stage, but it's great watching. It makes sense it would be pretty girls on stage, it's a show, often being filmed, too. He'd sign and talk to any fan off stage, but any movie director would choose photogenic subjects for a show/film.

What makes you think I am totally against autographs? I am only referring to the ones that are turned into tattoos during concerts. Why isn't he so quick to bring folks onstage to sign an LP cover or something? .
At least they can't put it on Ebay.
Exactly!!!! I have seen footage of Paul's comings and goings where he stops to sign LP's and other various things shoved in his face. His comments were "Ah Sgt Pepper LP. This one's going to end up on EEEEBAAAAY! The professionals are out today!!" Paul loves to make fans happy, but hates that his autographs end up on Ebay!!

Personally, the Paul can you sign my (whatever) is getting old and expected. The first few times it was like wow that's really cool but now to me it's getting to be a given part of the show. Just my opinion..I'm not dictating what people should do or not do at a Macca concert since we're all there because we love Paul and everybody has their own way of having a blast there. (Mine is WOOHOOING and dancing, luckily I've had some very nice people sitting with me )

So he signed two more girls lastnight...

all ages would be nice, reguardless of looks~

this was taken taken last night by Mark it is a sweet foto

I think it's safe to say it's definitely part of the show now. Were both girls (assuming they were both female) called up one right after the other? Any details on what their signs said? Look out Pittsburgh!!!
-
It's def part of the show.
-
Well apparently Paul enjoys it or else he would not be doing it! I do not see any reason to take the joy away from Paul or any of those that get the chance!

The two girls last night both appear young and it does appear to be part of the stage. Glad my Paul tour for this year is over as it really is over being cool. Still waiting to see a gray haired frumpy woman or a male get a signature.

Still waiting to see a gray haired frumpy woman or a male get a signature. I hope that's me in Pittsburgh!!! (the gray haired frumpy woman, not the male!) Although I don't consider myself frumpy and my hair is more white than gray....

One of the girls had a sign that said something like, "I have a sharpie in my back pocket, will you sign my back?" or something. And my friend (pictured above), she recently had Ram tattooed on her (from the album cover? Not the actual ram but ah, you know what I mean! :lol wrist and she asked him to sign it for her.
-
maybe we should change the name of the tour to Tattoo You tour... I've seen it happen so many times now, it's getting old, and really, hasn't Paul opened up a can of worms here, people are going to expect him to do it every show...everyone will be asking and there are going to be some major disappointments.... and they have all been gals, no guys, HA! What is going to happen when he stops doing it?

It is a bizarre thing for it to be happening so much now (especially when it is 2 people in one night)! Of course, it doesn't take away from that person's excitement. But...I imagine he will stop when he wants to. And...when he does - everyone will survive. We all know Paul is good at ignoring signs when he wants to. So...people will eventually stop trying. But...for now - he's obviously on a roll and enjoying himself. I imagine the first 10 rows at the Pittsburgh concert will be full of "sign me" signs! Strange phenomenon.

Both were called at the same time. The woman who had her back signed was standing next to me. She appeared to be in her late twenties, early thirties maybe. Her sign read something like this: [Check Mark] TA-2 Guy On Standby [Check Mark] Sharpie In My Pocket [No Check Mark] Signature on Back (or something to that effect) On the back it read that this was her last chance for her to get her back signed since her hubby said there was no more money for Macca tickets. I didn't get the chance to read lol_lennon's friend's sign, but I did notice that just before Helter Skelter, a clump of people with tattoo signs were standing by the stage, including the two who were picked. One asked for their mother to be signed! I just have to wonder how long he's going to keep this trend up - just for this tour or for every tour thereafter? If he's thinking of only doing it till the end of this tour, I'm afraid he's opened something of a Pandora's Box and it'll certainly be a very hard one to close. Not taking away from anyone who has been lucky enough to have various parts of their bodies signed, but I think I have to agree with both thenightfish and maccascruff on two points. I think now that people have come to realize that they might be able to achieve their dream of meeting the man with asking for a tattoo, everyone and their cousin are now bringing signs asking for them and I do think it breeds disappointment and maybe even a little contempt among those trying. I don't think it particularly ruins their experience of the show if they aren't picked, but I can only imagine how disappointing it is for one person to be picked and not another especially when, in most cases, these signs are right beside each other (at least in the front sections). It's like, so close and yet so far and I hate to see that negativity among Paul fan's. I also recognize the same trend that maccascruff has mentioned and I'm not the only one. Being a younger fan myself, I'm certainly not complaining that he's bringing up his newer generation of fans up, but I have heard the complaints of those who aren't in their 20s anymore and can sympathize. They aren't at all angry with those who have been so fortunate, they just wish he'd extend the same courtesy to those who have been there with him since the beginning and I would have to agree. These people have been a constant presence in his life. They loved him with the Beatles, they supported his venture with Wings when many had written off any band he was in that wasn't the Beatles, they followed and supported his solo efforts, they were a source of comfort when he lost John, Linda, and George and shared his joy through various achievements and personal happy events and so on. They've been through the thick and thin with this man and, yes, we would have done the same had we been alive - making us all equal as Paul fans - but we weren't so it would be nice for him to start acknowledging those who were there. If he did, I think I'd find this trend a little less stale. Bringing up both generations of fan, I think, would be a great reminder that he and his music are timeless, a feat not many musicians have accomplished. Just my two cents.
