Pistachio ice cream makes me smile... I say hello to it every visit to the store! Sometimes it persuades me to take it home and some times I just wave goodbye

My eyes cleared up. Finally. After being messed up for a year. Very happy! Got a different doctor and did a little experimenting of my own for the right solution. This is very good news!!!

My sis and I laughed fondly, sharing memories of our departed Mama whipping us with a switch peeled from a bush or tree in the yard, she made us get our own switches--my sis revealed she (my sis) put a book down her pants before one whippin' --which made Mama laugh--my sis said some of the men in our neighborhood would beat their kids with their belts ! Wasn't regarded as "child abuse" back then, it was "spare the rod, spoil the child"--I remember elementary school teacher Grace H. spanking me vigorously, her face red with rage I wonder what I did to earn those particular attentions from her (LOL) It was a great moment, my sis and I talking about Mama with laughter, instead of grief. I must seek to elicit more moments like that.
I bet it hurt like sh*t too! I remember when my Mom and Dad used to whip my a*s, I was always in trouble for something!! First, I used to get whipped in school, then when I got home, my Mom whipped my a*s, then my Dad whipped my a*s!! By the time all three were done whipping my a*s, my a*s was so numb, that by the time I went back to school the next day, I got in trouble on purpose because I didn't feel any pain when I got whipped!!! My Dad did the same thing your Mom did, he would tell me to go find a good branch to use as a switch and bring it in so he could whip my a*s! It hurt like sh*t! I guess I just love pain!!
WOW! I remember there was a wooden paddle in the principal's office, but I never got it used on me. And my mom only spanked me once when I stayed out too late one summer night when I was probably 10. I guess I was mostly a good kid. Oh, a few of us got caught smoking (one of the other kids in the neighborhood got caught with cigarette breath and he caved and told on his brother and me) but my parents just took away my allowance for a week or 2 and didn't let me go to the annual carnival we had in town. (I think my allowance was about 25 cents a week then! Age 11.)
J. and L2T, very glad your health woes are easing, improving, hope they get banished entirely... Nancy R., hee hee reading your post about the principal's paddle, I recall a teacher of mine loved to brandish his paddle threateningly and sort of terrorize us--I secretly drew a funny caricature of him doing so with the caption, "I'm gonna beat your hiney!" Imagine my reaction when he got hold of that drawing and blew it up on a screen in class. I feared he'd beat my behind! (And this was in high school, too, LOL). I think he got a weird kick out of that caricature. I only got spanked or whipped a few times, as a child. Drag though 'cause children feel everything tons more intensely than adults. I recall feeling the good stuff greatly intensified which was fabulous, but also bad things felt a thousand times worse.

Right after leaving D. J.'s testimony at church tonight about trials and hard times in her life, and her children's tragedies, and ways she feels God comforted and healed her grief, I turned on the car radio to Bob FM and Pete Townshend's "Let My Love Open the Door" immediately came on ("don't let tragedies bring you down" etc.). Bob FM rarely plays songs with such a strong spiritual theme. I've told before, here, about Paul Mc.'s "Let It Be" playing on the car radio first thing after leaving church before. Which happened twice. Made me smile Had been feeling emotional the past few days after I found out online about a brilliant spiritual teacher's fatal motorcycle accident in Hawaii. He had helped thousands and helped me before too. I knew him in the mid to late 80's and '90s, went to some of his brilliant talks and music concerts, had a lengthy correspondence with him, we talked on the phone, etc. I had his books and records. Mr. Rogers of the children's t.v. show (Fred Rogers was also an Episcopal priest), the Dalai Lama, Ram Dass and others were his mentors and benefactors, believed in him. His devoted wife was his partner in his work, he often proclaimed his devotion to her in turn, so I was amazed to read that this beloved yoga teacher (who taught all the world's great religions) had woman trouble before he moved to the islands--seemed so unlike him, I always knew him to be kind and caring and helpful, and he loved his wife so much--I wondered if he had a mid life crisis or mini stroke or some medical problem to change part of his personality and actions. Probably just that he was human. Been mourning and grieving his loss. But smiling as I recall how brilliant and spiritual he was overall, and funny things he'd said. Helpful things. One of his sayings was, "Many of your wounds and pains will heal while you're not watching them so closely." I regret his violent fatal accident on a dangerous road, reported not his fault, but he wasn't wearing head protection gear. His wife is carrying on the work without him.
