Looking forward to Paddington!

Over the holiday break we went to see Unbroken and The Imitation Game. Unbroken was very good, The Imitation Game was absolutely brilliant!!! Thrilled to see that The Imitation Game as been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture category and that Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley are both Oscar nominees for their roles in this film. Next up, American Sniper - have heard great things about this film!

I think Andy just wanted to find a movie thread. I saw Into The Woods recently and liked it. Most guys probably would not like it, unless they're fans of the TV shows Once Upon A Time or Galavant!

That's correct ... The American Sniper was a great movie ... and yes it does have something for women ... life from his wife's view. I don't want to give away the movie as many movie reviews do ... fortunately, I had not read any before seeing the movie.

Looking forward to Cinderella in March

Why wasn't "Into the Woods" filmed musical given more awards season love?-- I was also surprised by the paucity of nominations for "Unbroken"--the book was so fantastically and vividly written, though, that a movie version would have a hard time in comparison. Could not be nearly as good, probably. I hate war movies but I read the book "Unbroken" but had to skip over the most violent parts. In these times, especially, we badly need entertainment to distract us, lift our spirits...am thinking of the mass murders of "mainly women and children" in Pakistan and Nigeria recently and of those killed in Paris terrorist attacks

Paddington was so wonderful!!! I really, really loved it so. If you get a chance, go see it! Some lovely British sights in winter... Have always loved the Natural History Museum, it's an amazing building as well as the charm of the shops and the British homes. Paddington was so lifelike, I wonder how they did that? Also loved the British humour, it was quite funny! Just so well done!

I'd never heard of Paddington Bear before this. An English cartoon? "Unbroken" the book was a non-fiction masterpiece although too violent and intense to read (for me) in parts, by Laura Hillenbrand who wrote the very good "Sea biscuit" also made into a movie. I wonder if "Unbroken" got a Best Picture nom (Oscars are Feb. 21 or 22). I didn't see Unbroken. I wonder if part of the allure of "American Sniper" is seeing all those people picked off by the sniper, witnessing that--I hope not. I don't feel very drawn at all to seeing "the Theory of Everything" or the "Imitation" Keira Knightly Benedict Cumberbach movie, although they're prestigious and highly regarded...they don't appeal to me much although "Theory" does, a little. Hawking is an atheist, doesn't hold out any hope and I need hope. The love story aspect of the movie appeals--but didn't they get divorced later on? I read he's been married two or more times.

Susy, you might enjoy Paddington, based on the Paddington Bear series of books about a well mannered bear adopted into a British family and all of his ensuing escapades.
I've also put the trailer of the Theory of Everything as well. You might enjoy it after all. The movie is filled with Hope and is quite a love story. His wife is not an atheist and that discussion is quite interesting throughout. There's some lovely English scenery as it takes place in Cambridge. -
Thanks for all this, Carol Loves2Travel You've made me want to see The Theory of Everything and maybe Paddington too.

Think you'll be surprised SLP! Enjoy!

"Gone Girl" comes out on DVD February 10. This is one I perhaps should view on the small screen as it will be scary, shocking and intense...very frightening indeed if it captures the novel's essence...it couldn't be anywhere near as arresting and disturbing and funny as the novel which Gillian Flynn packed with quirky black humor, puns, and wit. And a skewed rather perverse slant on feminism

My husband & our kid are looking forward to the new Star Wars movie later this year.

Anyone seen anything good recently? Thought I'd open a thread up about good movies we've seen recently. I just watched Whiplash, wow. What a thrill ride. One of the best films of the year. Musically, it's brilliant. It's also well acted and well produced. Great film. Boyhood was also good, but a bit long.
