SusyLuvsPaul:
Saw "Arrival," it was confusing and I need to read the novel it's based on--but Amy Adams is wonderful as usual, very sensitive compelling watchable actress, and the ending with all the flashbacks was difficult to parse. but still left me a bit transported. Special movie. Everybody in it did well and very well made sci fi. "Allied" tragic WWII love story, Brad Pitt's performance was awesome, very moving tale
Susy she could see into the future, not flashbacks...that's why she was able to tell the Chinese leader, what she did...
-
Wow...I thought the Aliens had told her what the Chinese man's dying wife had said, so he told the other powers to call off waging war on their space ships 'cause that made him know the aliens had come in peace, meaning well. I was confused by it all. A big hole in the story, I thought, was why if they were so tech advanced and all didn't they already know all the Earth languages and be able to communicate right away? Thanx for the info

Wait, so she was her daughter's mother? I haven't seen this movie, so I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but isn't every mother who has a daughter their daughter's mother?

I know she was but I hadn't realized Remer character was the father. I'm going to see The Passenger w/ Jen Lawrence & Chris Pratt and also "Sing"

== I saw Passengers last night, and agree with them. It's a very touching love story as well as superlative science fiction. Chris Pratt is a big American hunk--looks more like a sports jock than an actor (resembles Footballer Tom Brady in the face) so it's cool he's expressive with his face and body in a dramatic artistic way. Jennifer Lawrence is awesome. Breathtaking action towards the end has you biting your nails. Jennifer's character's choice is poignant, rather unexpected and inspiring. What she gives up, for love.

"Sing" is cuteness overload and hilarious It kicks off with a few bars of "Golden Slumbers" and features that again near the ending It's "American Idol" with amusing animated animal toons and some familiar fun great songs, very entertaining Its original song has been nominated for a Golden Globe

Finally saw "La La Land" last night. It's glorious. Seriously the most fun I've had at a movie in a dozen years or more -- even though it's a bit bittersweet in places. And for folks who've been mourning Debbie Reynolds and revisiting "Singin' in the Rain," "La La Land" has some of that same spirit. It's a thoroughly modern story with thoroughly modern characters, yet evokes the exuberant whimsy of the great MGM musicals -- without drowning in nostalgia. This is a seriously wonderful film that deserves the armloads of awards it's gotten and been nominated for. It even made me sorta miss Los Angeles -- a city I happily left 23 years ago.

Right now, there's not much I'm interested in seeing. Possibly Manchester By The Sea.
