Coorrr blimey!.....you lucky people!!..... .....it's another favourite movie. A little more spooky this time.....dear Jenny Agutter (tried to pull her one night and seemed to be on a winner when her dreary boyfriend turned up from nowhere and whisked her away for some fireside passion....the bugger!) in a psychological thriller.... ......the sound is sadly only ok. Here's the 1960's movie rarely shown these days.......'I Start Counting'.....
-
Another classic movie.....'A Kind Of Loving'.....

Ah David, a kindred spirit! I also enjoy old movies! Oo, thank you me lovelys..... I'm glad my taste in movies is popular with some.....it's not in this house..... You can tell I had a quiet day with lots of time on my hands can't you?..... Found an old swinging sixties movie with Michael 'Phantom' Crawford and Oliver Reed too called 'The Jokers'....a great caper.

Can't believe it! I'm actually up-to-date with my current scrapbbok album again. Got all of January's photos in!

This is a trailer for a film which rightly won huge praise at the Cannes Film Festival in the year of it's release in 2008.......'Of Time and The City'.......by acclaimed Director Terence Davies. It's all about the City of Liverpool. Try it......it's wonderful!

Give us a nudge? What does that entail? I'm so down_________

Lots of smileys for ya liverpoolbride, to cheer you up...... There, feel better?.....hope so!! The purpose of this increasingly desperate and threadbare thread is to post stuff you know of that other people might wish to see....obviously a lot comes from You Tube (coz it's easy to post mainly) but it can be films, videos, music, TV, theatre, art history, photos or newspaper articles. Basically you can post anything you feel you want to nudge people in the direction of/bring their attention to. You will notice, if you are mad enough to trawl through the pages and pages of this bloomin' claptrap, that there's all sorts of different stuff up here. The Family Way is up on here I think somewhere.....with Paul's wonderful music.... The films above are ones I feel that many will not have seen coz they're primarily British movies and rarely shown abroad. So go on.....post a film or couple of episodes of some TV show you like.....the rarer the better really.

The saddest story..... A story that most British and Irish people will know only too well. A story that has been going on for far, far too long. Will this woman never have some peace. At today's memorial service they played a song from a then young emerging band called The Beatles.....'til there was you' sung by one of the bands lead singers, Paul McCartney. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1255725/Moors-Murder-victim-Keith-Bennett-remembered-memorial-service-45-years-abducted-killed.html ...... God Bless wee Keith.

Piers is an a**s as most people know but he's pretty much spot on in his assessment of this motley crew.....personally I think his summing up number 7 is correct......what do you think? Here's the Top 10....the other 90 are posted up on this page too. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1255806/The-100-British-celebrities-really-matter-Piers-Morgan-10-1.html The whole list is almost devoid of talent or any chance of lasting into the pages of the history books. A sad indication of the cultural void in Britian at the present time. At least Paul, Mick and Keef, Tony Hopkins, Michael Caine, Dame Dudi Dench, Dame Helen Mirren and the rest of their generation have produced.....few of the younger types listed here will survive I feel. The phrase has beens could be levelled at quite a few.....most are never has beens and never will be's.

why did andrew lord webber get to become a 'lord' instead of a 'sir' ?

SusyLuvsPaul:
why did andrew lord webber get to become a 'lord' instead of a 'sir' ?
A Lord (otherwise known as a Peer) is a higher honour than a Sir (otherwise known as a knighthood). Lordships used to be an hereditary title (i.e. passed on from father to son) and successive generations, dating back hundreds of years, got to sit in the House of Lords (our sort of equivalent to the US Senate) - referenced in A Day in the Life of course!! However all Lords are now appointed for life. They are drawn from various sections of society, but those who've made significant contributions to the country, through industry, the arts, politics, etc. They still get to sit in the House of Lords and vote on legislation. Hereditary Peers/Lords are being phased out by the current Government, who see them as undemocratic, elitist and anachronistic. It all dates back to the feudal system of government we had in the Medieval period of our history. Those Lords who are politically active and are members of a political party can become Government Ministers and represent the Government during debates on legislation in the House of Lords. Lord Lloyd Webber is a Conservative supporter, I think, but he's not active politically as far as I know. I think though, that all Lords have to agree to turn up for debates for so many days a year as a condition of accepting the honour. While there's still lots of debate about reform of the House of Lords, the ideal is for non-political people drawn from across society able to offer a fresh perspective on legislation. There is a law that prevents the House of Lords from delaying legislation for too long if it's already been voted for by the democratically-elected House of Commons. However, when it works at its best, the Lords can help bring the Government to account and provide some useful scrutiny and another view point on draft legislation. People normally become a Sir first and later a Lord. I think that was the case with Lloyd Webber.

Right now, I could use a nudge to get a large number of things accomplished! There's actually a radio show called "Nudge At Night"!

As the cash for honours scandal indicates the system for handing out Peerages and Knighthoods over here is dubious to say the least. ALW was first a Knight in 1992 then 5 years later claimed the big one from his pals in government. He has had a massive effect on musical theatre and the West End of London's theatreland and also worldwide but I find his stuff very insipid and cloying. His work always seems ot sound like something else......the fact that he is a Lord and Macca (a much more original, important and innovative artist) has only a Knighthood grates with me somewhat. I don't want to imply that the sysytem hands out the big one for best friends, those with the biggest tongue or bank balance or to those who have double barrelled names and went to private schools like Westminster or Eaton then on to Oxford or Cambridge University......I don't want to imply that it's dodgy.....BUT I WILL!!!!..... Actually it's not very funny. I attempted to push Macca's name forward for a peerage and when the form turned up it was huge.....and full of bleeding stupid questions like - who are they, what have they done, give examples of their contirbution to.....blah blah......and all I wanted to do was to put 'He's Paul Mc-Fuffing-Cartney for f***'s sake!!!.......what else do you need to know? He's stayed here in the UK all his life and paid his taxes and changed the face of music forever writing hundreds of the greatest songs ever recorded.... : .......then I thought better of it coz they're a little bit prim and proper in the estsablishment and would promptly throw the application in the bin... Here's a couple of vague links if you think Macca should be put forward......I'd do it myself at the moment but I'm way too full of cold and sinus problems....sniff! http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/UKgovernment/Honoursawardsandmedals/TheUKhonourssystem/index.htm http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/

I couldn't believe that Piers put Ant and Dec above Paul?? What wasn't mentioned was that Paul is an International 'Mega Star'. Unless you live in Outer Mongolia or such everyone knows who Paul is. Only the British know who Ant and Dec are. Another annoying feature was the TINY photo they used of Paul and they got his age wrong. As for the Lord thing, I remember an interview where Paul was asked about being made a Lord and it was pointed out that he would have to go to the House of Lords and he said" Exactly" with real scorn in his voice. So, I don't know if he would take it?? But, he loves the establishment thing really doesn't he? Join the club David...I am also sniffing, sneezing, coughing stc. Feeling genearally miserable! Hope you will soon feel better.

Piers Morgan is a twat. For sure. Half of these "celebs" are famous for nothing.
-
I think the point of the top 100 is to show people who are relevent to the UK public today (terrifying ain't it.... )....those who are THE celebrities of 2010. I fear that Paul only makes the top hundred coz Piers is a Macca and Beatles fan.....if this was someone else writing a 'relevent top 100 celebrities 2010' Paul wouldn't even get in. I feel that in doing this Piers is also highlighting the fact that most of them are, as you say CF27, 'famous for doing nothing'.....or even less than that. About 92 of the top 100 will be forgotten about by 2030 (for some I mean half past eight tonight... ) whereas the odd genuine talent, those important performers like Paul and David Attenborough who have contributed something real and lasting, will live on for centuries through their innovative and inspiring work. As for Paul not wanting to sit in the House Of Lords......well, if he wants to get in and change things environmentally or with regards to animal rights then perhaps this would be a way to go about it. Sadly the Peers in the House have such ancient and deep-rooted beliefs, most of which are the exact polar opposite of Paul's, that he'd be probably find he was wasting his breath. Most of them hunt for a start.......and are quite vicious in protecting their 'way of life'......the to***rs! I don't think Paul wants the hassle at his time of life. There are some people you just can't reason with....and a lot of them exist in their own little world in the House of Lords!.....the establishment bar stewards! Viva La Revolucion!! Up the workers!! LINKA Hello slinky luv.... ......hope you're well and truly stuffed full of paracetemol and chocolate....a winning combination I find especially when washed down with cold milk. Dunno why I've always combined the three. Put your feet up and get someone to wait on you hand and foot. And when they've finished round your place send 'em round here....nobody waits on me hand and foot not since me dear old ma passed away. I am not just full of cold but my sinuses are given me major grief... I spent most of the night up with a thumping head and blowing gallons of boogers and still the stuff is coming 18 hours later.....too much information?..... ....I'm sure these colds are man made by Pharmaceutical companies to make huge money from research and potions. It was never this bad 30 years ago....and that 'oh, well it's air travel you know' BS excuse that people trot out gets on me t*ts! The much put upons father was a top flight salesman and trainer in the Pharmaceutical trade and he hinted that the amount of money from research and potions is soooo high every year that they regularly keep cures secret so as to grab big profits. Now, call me an old cynic and conspiracy theorist....but I believe him. Here's my old haunt of Yuk! getting some award for The Shambles (no sarky comments you lot!) being the most picturesque street in Britain....followed in third place by Grey Street in me home toon of Newcastle, like. I always pick the best places to live me..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1256320/Britains-picturesque-street-complete-Shambles.html
