Okay, oobu24, HaileyMcComet and everyone. After multiple playings of this song, on vinyl, changing the speed and pitch, I have come to the conclusion- ARE YOU SITTING DOWN? - that Paul is saying “black MINING hills” and the f@%king poster lyrics are wrong!
Never let it be said that I was never able to admit when I was wrong!
OMG! This is HUGE!
I can't believe this! When I saw this thread come up I thought oh no, here we go again...LOL!This is due to Hailey's idea of slowing it down? So glad you have come over to our side...FINALLY!

The big question now is, "Did Paul hijack the names Rocky and Lil from the Bullwinkle cartoon?" Rocky the flying squirrel and Lil the damsel in distress? It is "rather" coincidental.

ROTFLMAO! Love the gifs!

I always thought Paul was trying to sound like Elvis when he sang this, his vocals and the Southern accent which he had down pat...was I wrong? That's how it sounds to my ears. This is an irrepressible lively and spirited ode, so jaunty and perky and Paul sounds so vivacious and full of personality and spunk. All jazzed up (though it's sure not a jazz tune LOL) !! It's more than a "granny vaudeville novelty tune" methinks. Has a lot in it. Reminds me of the old Beverly Hillbillys sitcom, but it's far superior to that !

That's the important part. What he sings is irrelevant. It's a good song either way. When people say things like, "Nothing will ever change my mind", that's the problem.

I agree, SS, and have thought the same.

Thanks! Great minds think alike! Artists and musicians have been inspired back and forth with each other's works since the beginning of time. Also, truth really is much stranger than fiction. I have been into family genealogy back and forth occasionally over the past year with 3 of my female cousins Tammi, Lynn and Carol. We have a profound bible thumpin' Amish Preacher Great Great Grandfather who was a Union soldier in the last year of the Civil War. His name was Gideon and Ironically passed away in the same year that the International Gideon Society (who distribute Gideon's Bibles) was founded! LOL!
Interesting. An Amish preacher who became a soldier. No contradiction there (smile).

He was in for 9 months. I would imagine in a Spiritual context. Many soldiers were wounded and died.
The soldiers surely needed comfort and love from pastors and spiritual laymen. So, you have that in your DNA. Nice!

Very nice indeed! He is through my mom's mom's family. My mom's dad's family I have traced back to the early 1830's. My GGGrandparents were born about 4-5 hours northeast of Geneva, Switzerland in Neukirch and Wurttenberg, Germany respectfully. Her name was Geneva (a french name) (Juniper) and I imagine was named after the city or lake possibly.. I get my English and Danish heritage from my Dad. His and my surname is one of the most profound names in the UK. There are several places in the UK that bear that name. I must get my 155 IQ from the Swiss German in me. "Now somewhere in the snow covered mountains of switzerland there lived a jung boy named rocky raccoonaahhh" lol

It's amazing. Einstein was born 43 years after my GGGrandparents and almost exactly halfway between where they were born. I have always told people that this gift of mine is equally a blessing and burden. It is a blessing because you are so aware, and it is a burden because you are so aware.
