The ..2012.... Political thread

Kahlessa:
I don?t have a problem with Sarah Palin, though I can?t say at this point that I?m comfortable with the idea of her being one life away from the White House. I am more concerned with what the selection of her as a running mate says about McCain. He?s saying, after having only met her once, that this is the person he feels will be best able to take care of the country if something happens to him. While we have not lost a president since 1963, and McCain appears to be in good health, things happen. Look how sudden and unexpected Tim Russert?s untimely death was. So it?s a possibility and Palin has to be evaluated in that light. She might be terrific?we just don?t know. I think her selection may make Hillary and Bill Clinton work harder for Obama. If McCain wins, Palin will be in position to run for president in 2012, assuming McCain doesn?t run for a second term. If Palin runs, Hillary will lose the advantage of being the only female candidate. Hillary may decide she'd rather take her chances with getting a cabinet post or seat on the Supreme Court through Obama. It promises to be an entertaining election season in any case. I really enjoy watching the Republicans and conservative commentators backpedaling fast on the importance of experience. And I find the explanations of how Palin, as head of the Alaska National Guard, is better qualified than Obama to be commander-in-chief, just hilarious. Especially when they talk about how Russia is just on the other side of the Bering Strait. I feel safer already. This just came out today: Palin's Church May Have Shaped Controversial Worldview http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/02/palins-church-may-have-sh_n_123205.html Three months before she was thrust into the national political spotlight, Gov. Sarah Palin was asked to handle a much smaller task: addressing the graduating class of commission students at her one-time church, Wasilla Assembly of God. Her speech in June provides as much insight into her policy leanings as anything uncovered since she was asked to be John McCain's running mate. Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord. "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan." And it?s Rev. Wright all over again? A review of recorded sermons by Ed Kalnins, the senior pastor of Wasilla Assembly of God since 1999, offers a provocative and, for some, eyebrow-raising sketch of Palin's longtime spiritual home. The church runs a number of ministries providing help to poor neighborhoods, care for children in need, and general community services. But Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode." It is impossible to determine how much Wasilla Assembly of God has shaped Palin's thinking. She was baptized there at the age of 12 and attended the church for most of her adult life. When Palin was inaugurated as governor, the founding pastor of the church delivered the invocation. In 2002, Palin moved her family to a nondenominational church, but she continues to worship at a related Assembly of God church in Juneau.
thought she was catholic or that is what they are trying to imply. I have not heard anything about her being overly religious from my contacts in Ak. They never brought that up about her and there all lefties

Bill:
...Well folks, you either respect your war veterans or you don't. You can't have it both ways...
Kerry's and McCain's experiences in the military were in no way comparable, and everyone knows it.
Bill:
...And then he goes and picks a rank amateur like Sarah Palin. And his surrogates here still praise him for it. Why? The woman is a joke...
This is ironic. Do you think a clown like Obama, a former state senator and "community organizer" (whatever that is) who never managed a budget or sizable staff, a man who began running for president after being in the United States Senate for less than five months is qualified to be president, while Sarah Palin, a former mayor responsible for a $6 million budget and 80 city employees, and now, governor of a state bordering two foreign countries with a $6.6 billion budget and thousands of employees, is not qualified to be vice president? Your critique of Palin is intellectually dishonest.
Irony is being called dishonest by someone who claims Obama began running for president so early. It takes a really creative interpretation of history to make that claim. You're bringing up the border meme? Give me a break! How many states border a foreign country? That's lame! If you want to talk about managing economies, Obama has as much experience managing a budget as McCain has, so what's your point? Palin was so good for Alaska that she was once a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. The party's founder is quoted on their website thus: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." Palin only quit the party so she could run for office. Furthermore, she thinks that "under God" in the pledge of allegiance was put their by the founding fathers. For those who don't know (including Palin), it was not. It was inserted in the 50s. I'm Australian and even I knew that. Now who wants to talk about patriotism? Kerry's service does not have to be comparable to McCain's in order for people to show a little respect. He was there and I wasn't. If you were, then I guess you have the right to diss him. We'll see how many people flock to McCain's speech this week.... those who the party doiesn't have arrested.

I think you're 11 years adrift. Gerald Ford's nickname around the Nixon White House was "impeachment insurance." They were wrong about that too.
uh, when a president is impeached, they are not removed from office. Nixon was not impeached. He resigned from the office. Ford was selected as vice president, I'm sure you'll remember, because the previous VP (dear Spiro Agnew) had to resign.
Our Foolish friend was talking about presidents being forced from office in one way or another. On that level, Nixon certainly qualifies.

rich nixon...in a moment of final political clarity offered up a vision of a "wage and price freeze" ...and of course our collective love of money, quickly suppressed this idea! what is thee answer? when will we be sick of death and war???

Bill:
If you want to talk about managing economies, Obama has as much experience managing a budget as McCain has, so what's your point?
The point would be that she has more executive experience than Obama, Biden and McCain combined, while you boorishly say, "The woman is a joke." McCain's legislative experience and accomplishments trump those of Obama several times over, but I gather from this conversation, though, that you've somehow concluded that Obama's ticket is more qualified for the executive branch.
Bill:
...Palin was so good for Alaska that she was once a member of the Alaskan Independence Party...
Right. Go ahead and believe that if you want. And yes, she is good for Alaska. She has one of the highest approval ratings of any governor in the country. (Sorry, Bill. She's not "a joke.")
Bill:

No, their experiences weren't comparable, in Vietnam or when they came home. Kerry returned from Vietnam and immediately began lying about his experience, tossing away his medals and acting ashamed of his service, and, by implication, his country. McCain never sullied his fellow soldiers the way Kerry tried to do. Unlike Kerry, McCain has always been proud of his service and his country. That is why I and many others have little respect for a man like Kerry.
Bill:
We'll see how many people flock to McCain's speech this week.... those who the party doesn't have arrested.
What does that mean, or is it just another petty remark?

. You really see when a woman runs how quick they dish her. If she were a man.......... I sorry but woman are the worst offenders usually with other woman. If there strong there a barracuda hummm!! where have we heard that description. Woman are blamed for everything wrong with the family. When in this day and age there usually the bread winners. Woman work than come home and our expected to work some more. Not fair. Guys come home and put there feet up and the little woman servers them their dinner. (I always said I needed a wife.) I think if you took her family out of this election she would of been fine. But now this race is about her kids and not her. I don't agree with her family planning views but she the one paying the price for her ignorance?s. It show all of us who is right and who is wrong.. I believe the family should talk to kids but kids don?t always talk to there parents about this stuff so it better to have a family planning do it for them. Keeping them safe is important. What if she also contacted aids. I think woman are judged much harsher. they have to be double good to get credit for being good. Mena also want wife to be successful but not too sucessful.. Paul Mccartney is a example. Like Prince Charles and Di. She was a asset until she out shined his family. Than it was off with her head/

All I gotta say is after seeing & listening to Sarah Palin ... Woman Power I'm so impressed

What does that mean, or is it just another petty remark? I think what he is talking about is the fact that a number of Ron Paul supporters, as well as people from the poor people movement, have been arrested. During one of the speeches tonight, on CNN at least, you saw a woman being dragged away from the Convention floor by the police/security. There have been several detainees, some of them who were legitimate business people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, were detained by forcing a police barrier around the street for a couple of hours. No one was allowed in, but no one was allowed to leave no matter the reason.

Hey if she can't even control her own hair, how is she going to control Congress (they will still be there). and yes, I'm part of the FBI's hair police unit. and to be fair, Joe Biden needs to cover up those hair plugs.

She's an automatic weapon lovin'...lip stick wearin'...pitbull hockey mom who thinks america is thee only nation on earth. I can see the pink mushroom clouds now!

at least she let it down. I'm was not a fan of the up doo and if we going to talk hair...McCain and Biden don't have any and obama's is a little on the dry side and he could use covering up the ears to. BILL, YOU ARE WRONG WRONG WRONG. SARAH PALIN WAS NEVER A MEMBER OF THE ALASKAN INDEPENDENCE PARTY. YOU READ WHAT SOME LIKE MINDED PERSON SAID AND NOW YOU'RE STATING IT TOO. WHERE DID YOU FIND THE LINK WITH THE LIE? DAILY KOS?? HUFF POST OR ANY OF THE OTHER HATE GROUPS YOU FIT SO WELL WITH? SHE'S BEEN A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN SINCE MAY 1982. YOU'RE JUST SPREADING MORE LIES ABOUT HER BECAUSE YOUR KIND ARE ALL SHITTING BLOOD AFTER HER GRAND SLAM SPEECH WEDNESDAY EVENING. THIS IS THE ELECTION THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD HAVE WALKED AWAY WITH. OBAMA, WHO STARTED HIS RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY AFTER 143 DAYS AS A DO NOTHING US SENATOR, SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET ELECTED WITH A CAMPAIGN WAR CHEST OF $100.00. SINCE HE RENEGED ON HIS AGREEMENT WITH MCCAIN TO USE GOVERNMENT FUNDS HE HAS ABOUT 4 TIMES AS MUCH MONEY IN HIS WAR CHEST TO SPEND THAN MCCAIN, YET OBAMA IS STILL GONNA LOSE. EVEN WITH THE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT OF THE MEDIA IN HIS CAMP HE'S STILL GONNA LOSE. EVEN BILL MAHER TOOK NOTICE OF THE MEDIA BEING IN THE TANK FOR OBAMA. HE SAID CHRIS MATTHEWS AND KEITH OLBERMANNN WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH OBAMA. THE RADICAL LEFT WING SMEAR MERCHANTS ARE DOING TO PALIN WHAT THEY DID TO HILLARY CLINTON. AND THEY HAVE FOUND ANOTHER "USEFUL IDIOT"**** TO PROUDLY AND SHAMELESSLY PASS AROUND THE LIES. BUT MANY APOLITICAL AMERICANS ARE STARTING TO TAKE NOTICE OF THE LIES PUT OUT BY THE MARXISTS WHO HAVE INFILTRATED THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. BTW, THE ALASKAN INDEPENDENCE IS A FAR BETTER PARTY THAN WHAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS BECOME. SEEING ALL THE MARXIST DEMS TELLING ALASKANS HOW TO LIVE SHOWS A NEED FOR SUCH A PARTY IN ALASKA. A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER IS SOMEONE WHO POLITICIZES BLACK CHURCHES AND SHAKES DOWN THE TAXPAYERS FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL GAINS. THIS SUMMER THERE WERE 123 MURDERS IN CHICAGO, MOST IN OBAMA'S OLD DISTRICT. THAT'S TWICE THE NUMBER OF SOLDIERS KILLED IN IRAQ DURING THE SAME PERIOD. GREAT JOB OF ORGANIZING THE COMMUNITY OBAMA. KERRY'S SERVICE DESERVES NO RESPECT. HE DESERVES NO RESPECT AS A MAN OR A NAVY OFFICER. HE VIOLATED U.S. LAW WHEN HE WENT TO PARIS TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE ENEMY. HE LIED UNDER OATH IN TESTIMONY BEFORE THE US SENATE WHEN HE CLAIMED WITNESS TO US SOLDIERS COMMITTING ATROCITIES. I LOOKED AT SOME OF THE OTHER RECENT POSTS YOU MADE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BE TAKEN AT YOUR WORD. YOU HAD A GOOD CALL ON THE "IMPEACHMENT INSURANCE'' REGARDING GERALD FORD. HOWEVER,
BILL:
She couldn't be any more redneck if she married her brother.
I'll take it that the above remark has nothing to do with her Downs syndrome baby and that it's just more bashing that she's receiving by people who can't destroy her with the truth. When her detractors attack her they only help her. When the McCain/Palin ticket wins in November Vice President Elect Sarah Palin should thank the Daily Kos and the Huffington Post for their efforts in getting them elected. Now lets talk about the truth in breeding. Obama's mother was a single woman, 18 years old, who was "knocked up"****** by Barack Obama Sr. They married later on and his father abandoned them both and he moved back to the country he came from, Kenya, because his other wife lived there. He fathered other children with different women before he died in a car crash in 1982. While he had a major drinking problem all news accounts omit the cause of the crash. His mother dumped him when he was 9 or 10 on her parents to raise little Barry. Rednecks would be insulted if they were ever compared to the Obama family because the Obama family are bottom feeders. I could agree with the editorial, for the most part, about Republicans being glad Bush and Cheney stayed home. There's a lot of anonymous people in that article. It's too bad the McClatchy company newspapers that are published all across the country didn't report the real news story instead of that hit piece. Former DNC Chairman Don Fowler got caught celebrating the upcoming Hurricane Gustav last week. While flying home from the DNC last week from Denver to Charlotte North Carolina he said to Democrat Congressman John Spratt. "The hurricane's going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. The timing is -- at least it appears now that it'll be there Monday. That just demonstrates God's on our side. Everything's cool". They were hoping the convention was gonna be postponed. Just when ya think the Democrats can't get any lower they drop down another ten feet. A Katrina like disaster killing 1,000+ and wrecking the lives of a hundred times more would be wonderful if it hurt the Republicans. So much for the party of compassion. Someone on the plane taped them and put it up on you tube and Fowler complained about right wing nut jobs taping him. Once again, the Democrats are the victims. Like Ferraro in 1984, Palin was chosen primarily for her gender. But at least she has a resume. Obama was chosen because of his skin color. The white liberals love a black man who's well spoken, good looking, and non-threatening. That's Obama's entire resume. That and a speech he gave in 2002. Then he picks a running mate who voted for the war. He can't do anything right. They both opposed the surge, which worked. What a couple of imbeciles. The blind leading the blind. *** FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE TERM "USEFUL IDIOT". --- GOOGLE IT. ****** "knocked up" is the term the NY Daily News used to describe the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter. I think the editors are angry because she and her boyfriend are gonna get married and keep the baby. The editors would have preferred an abortion and a break up.
