The ..2012.... Political thread

I have put this up before about polictics and the media, i dont know if you have seen it or not. Its a little slow at first.
It makes so much sense to me. Many of papers in the UK are full of big brother, amy winehouse, pete doherty, soap operas, x factor , skating shows, and sometimes backing up the lies of our policitions. Its no wonder people are either not interested , or oblivious to the truth. -

Interesting endorsement of Obama from The Pittsburgh Post Gazette: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08286/919151-183.stm I think newspaper endorsements are interesting to read because generally the editorial boards really think through their endorsements. The candidates are interviewed by the editorial boards and that is how they make their decision. They are usually well written by intelligent people.
I feel the very opposite -- I think good balanced journalism has died. The press seems to have an agenda - and will close their eyes to anything that differs from this goal. They should be upfront and honest - by putting their position with the article or rename their paper --- for example the New York Obama Times.
That is why I used the words generally and usually in my post sometimes the boards have their own agenda. Especially when their owners are corporate entities who benefit by the economic policies of one side or the other. As far as balanced journalism that should not exist (Fox anyone) how can you 'balance' the truth?
The Fox slogan is "fair & balanced news" not "truth" as you appear to presume.
Agree with you here Andy, Fox has nothing to do with truth and reality

The Republican Fisherman A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He spotted a man in a boat below so he decreased his altitude. He shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The fisherman consulted his GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude." The balloonist rolled his eyes and said, "You must be a Republican." "I am," replied the man. "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "I'm sure everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me." The fisherman smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat." "I am," replied the balloonist, "how did you know?" "Well", said the man, "You don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are due to a large volume of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position as you were before we met, but somehow now you think it's my fault!"
******* ** 2 0r 3 or more of the administrations in office before and shortly after the stock market crash in 1929 were republican and conservative inclined...in 1987, 6 years into a republican administration, we had another profound stock market problem...our friends in russia had a lot of problems at this time...we are at the end of another republican administration and are having problems again

Barack Obama: Too Much Pie For One Guy
-
Monday, October 13, 2008 The coming liberal thugocracy Michael Barone COMMENTARY: "I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors," Barack Obama told a crowd in Elko, Nev. "I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face." Actually, Obama supporters are doing a lot more than getting into people's faces. They seem determined to shut people up. That's what Obama supporters, alerted by campaign e-mails, did when conservative Stanley Kurtz appeared on Milt Rosenberg's WGN radio program in Chicago. Mr. Kurtz had been researching Mr. Obama's relationship with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers in Chicago Annenberg Challenge papers in the Richard J. Daley Library in Chicago - papers that were closed off to him for some days, apparently at the behest of Obama supporters. Obama fans jammed WGN's phone lines and sent in hundreds of protest e-mails. The message was clear to anyone who would follow Mr. Rosenberg's example. We will make trouble for you if you let anyone make the case against The One. Other Obama supporters have threatened critics with criminal prosecution. In September, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Mr. Obama that were "false." I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-'02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Mr. Obama's ties to Mr. Ayers. complete article: ? It doesn't matter how many times the Ayres allegation is printed it's still a ridiculous allegation. Of course it's going to be disputed. Here is the Congressional Quarterly, no less, calling it so wrong , it's pants on fire wrong. http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002974214&cpage=3 I would be embarrassed to be trying to push this kind of thing it shows desperation. You obviously only read through and/or scanned through the second paragraph. You assume wrongly that the whole article is about Ayres. It is instead about speech suppression, something to which it appears that Obama and his staff are in favor. Please read the whole article.

You would not say that if you were familiar with all the implications of "The Fairness Doctrine" - which is one of an assortment of proposed bills to subvert speech. Barack is in favor of the fairness doctrine. The fairness doctrine is an attack on the success of moderate to conservative talk radio. The unjust part the bill is that it does not cover other types of media such as TV and/or newpapers. Why? It's prejudice at heart - the writers know that the liberal media have a television & newspaper monopoly (except for Fox cable). They don't want to have to balance their reports by allowing conservatives to have equal time to the liberal voices. So it's prejudice what the so called fairness doctrine is really about It seeks only to subvert moderate to conservative talk radio hosts & their listening audience & leave the TV stations "untouched". IT's PREJUDICE

Who is better for the economy...you decide From The New York Times today. October 14, 2008 Bulls, Bears, Donkeys and Elephants By TOMMY McCALL Since 1929, Republicans and Democrats have each controlled the presidency for nearly 40 years. So which party has been better for American pocketbooks and capitalism as a whole? Well, here?s an experiment: imagine that during these years you had to invest exclusively under either Democratic or Republican administrations. How would you have fared? As of Friday, a $10,000 investment in the S.& P. stock market index* would have grown to $11,733 if invested under Republican presidents only, although that would be $51,211 if we exclude Herbert Hoover?s presidency during the Great Depression. Invested under Democratic presidents only, $10,000 would have grown to $300,671 at a compound rate of 8.9 percent over nearly 40 years.

What democratic vision??? FDR made it up as he went along......truth of the matter was the american people believed him and, most importantly, he did not let them down. He was also responsible for term limits today.....good thing I'd say. Harry was very underrated as was Nixon & Reagan, despite what you might personally think of them. I would also wish that people wouldn't confuse republican w/conservatism and democrats w/liberalism.....as Peggy Lee once sang: "tain't necessarily so..."

Ah, tain't necessarily so..... given the dot com bubble, Japan tanking in the 80s, Mexico drowning in the 90s, the inflation in the 80s, the bear market of the 70s, etc., seems to me the numbers don't jive ...but your point is taken.
