The ..2012.... Political thread

The loss were mainly due to the blue dog democrats. And lets not forget that the Rep had two parties. They put candidates into the tea party and the Rep party. So if one lost they still had a second chance. Plus now that the Supreme court past laws allowing corporation to donate to political candidates like individuals.. Only those doing there bidding will have a change. The day of the people's vote is dead. The Rep had two to one for spending in this campaign because of the supreme court ruling. Obama got in because America rally together donated big on a individual level and combined it to give them the ability to take on big money. Now its over. Corp like health care and the insurance industry just won a victory. They now owe us. We're there bitches. You confused Rep/tea partier who believe for one moment YOU can vote them out.. You were nothing but a diversion to the big money buy off that just went down. Only the Supreme court can ever change this and right now until someone takes out a few of them. It will never change. GWB was put into office to destroy the USA. His mission accomplished. He was put there to wipe out the saving of all American so that those who contol the money would have it easy to control us. Every time a Dem gets into office we left with a balanced budget. Than the Rep get it and steal us blind. Than rack up debt and than the Dem get back in and get blamed. ONE BILLION A DAY TO FIGHT THIS WAR. We need a war tax added to every paycheck in this country. Let it effect all of us in our pocket books. The more you make the bigger you pay. Flat % tax.
Facts and stats don't register with so-called Conservatives. They pretend to not notice that we had a surplus under Clinton. They pretend to not notice that the deficit tripled under Reagan. They pretend to not notice that George W. Bush added a trillion to the deficit within two years with Medicare Part D, tax cuts for the rich and the prescription drug legislation. It's not really about the economy with them. It's about something that's been the shame of this country since its slave-owning founding fathers created it. And, yes, I'm takin' it there.

As for the Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives: Nothing unexpected there at all. It's history repeating itself: Both Reagan and Clinton's parties lost control of both Houses during their first terms... ...and both were two-term Presidents. Obama's party lost control of only one House. And he will be re-elected. If Palin runs*, Obama won't even need to leave the White House front lawn to campaign. *(which she won't -- and never will seriously consider it -- she's in it for the bucks, folks)
-
I'll say it again: prior to GB's taking office, we had a balanced budget and a reserve that the Republicans fully, wholly and entirely plundered, driving us into a full-out, global melt-down that would have taken many, many years to recover from - instead, republicans played their best and only card: the blame-game for Obama's failure to use his magic wand to turn straw into gold. What goes around comes around...it's their turn to be "kettle."

You get it. I get it. Conservatives, however, don't -- er, won't get it. Simply said: They choose to not get it.

Many Americans are dumb, with very short memories...what about the massive overspending under George W. Bush that left the U.S. with a deficit of trillions? Just horrifying, devastating catastrophic debt? And the S.O.B. is still benefiting, he and his rich cronies, by dumb Americans blaming Obama instead of Bush!!
You nailed it Suzy. Many Americans are dumb and vote against their own best interests. They are manipulated sheep. Even on this thread when you try to discuss policy the republicans here can't even explain why they support the republican/conservative party. Unless they are corporatist overlords or multi-millionaires the republicans will do nothing for them, just use them. Facts mean nothing because they can't reason..they're sheep.

I agree she'd be a gift that keep on giving. Her attention is all the all the media fault. There dumbing down America. The guys that own our media are the same people who owe radio station newspaper, magazine, distribution of movies, books any media from internet to Hollywood are controlled by these people and there day job is banking and wall street equity funds. These guys are not journalistic or artist. There powerful wall street corporate radars with the money to buy up mass media and control the flow of information. Look at MGM going broke the guy worth 11 billion.. he filing bankruptcy on 4 billion of debt so he doesn't have to pay his bills.

...why should we be "livid" with Obama again? At least he's trying to tackle this mess while keeping the focus on not adding to the deficit. Conservatives are such friggin' hypocrites. They talk the talk -- but don't walk the walk.
I understand. You subscribe to the fallacies of Keynesian economics: government knows better how to spend your money than you do, and it must ?prime the pump? now and then. But as FDR proved by drawing out the Great Depression for over a decade, government spending to bring the economy out of a recession doesn?t work. The ?stimulus? was a singular, colossal failure. How could it not be? Obama is an economic illiterate and as long as we employ his policies, the economy will be stuck in the mud, to use one of his vehicular metaphors. Bush is culpable, no doubt about it, though much of the trouble with the economy is due to policies advanced by miscreants like Barney Frank, Bill Clinton and Chris Dodd, and a time-bomb known as the Community Reinvestment Act. But your argument is absurd on its face ? ?Bush spent far too much. He should have spent a lot more.? I understand you want to defend someone you support, but this makes no sense. The election Tuesday shows most people are determined to stop Obama?s destructive agenda. Many of those voters certainly are former supporters of his, suffering buyer's remorse. Anyone who ever supported this unqualified, preening dork must be feeling some embarrassment by now, too, if only in private. We are swirling down the drain with this bumbler and he wants to double down on others' mistakes and introduce many of his own. That?s why you should be livid.

You have opinions but they're not based on facts. You need to read up on the Community Reinvestment Act. It was passed in the late 70's and required banks to make loans in the neighborhoods in which they took deposits. BTW At least 80% of subprime loans were make by service lenders not bound by CRA. The bush administration greatly weakened the CRA. It was strongest under Clinton and worked well then (remember good times?) Look this up yourself. Yes, bush and the republican/conservative congress definitely had a hand in the subprime crisis. In his (bush) own words:
Job creation and the economy 2000-2009 the bush years with republican control of both the house and senate THE LOST DECADE http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/01/AR2010010101196.html?hpid=topnews from the article: The past decade was the worst for the U.S. economy in modern times, a sharp reversal from a long period of prosperity that is leading economists and policymakers to fundamentally rethink the underpinnings of the nation's growth. There has been zero net job creation since December 1999. No previous decade going back to the 1940s had job growth of less than 20 percent. Economic output rose at its slowest rate of any decade since the 1930s as well. But, you people don't absorb facts very well you just try to make up your own -
Who took the cookies from the cookie jar..Regan took the cookies from the cookie jar...that would be social security and he robbed it blind.

This is the great Rep lie that goes on for decades. FDR put together the NEW DEAL and that is what brought us out of the Great depression.. It put Americans back to work. Rep always hated it too. Why? because it took them 20 years to get there greedy hands on government money. Also don't forget he died in office because he was voted in again and again. Rep are aggressive that how they get into office. The great president are always Democrats! Some of the great project FDR did the Hoover damn, Grande Coulee Damn and most of the great infrastructure we have today. Bush did what? Oh Yes, attacked the wrong country!. The new plan by the Rep is to add 700 billion to our deficit. Keep the tax break for those making 200,000 because we all make that and all us small business make that even though according the the Rep party no one has jobs. So not sure who makes it except the top 1% of the country.

I've sent my elected officials my ideas today. How about any of you? My ideas War tax. A in your face war tax that lets the patriots see what it cost all of us to play big shot. The flat % tax goes by income and could have a higher percent depending on income. So those top 1% can pay the most maybe as much as 25-50% of there income. It also will be paid by business and corporation so no getting away from it .. Even church and non profits would pay. See how fast the war winds up when it coming out of everyone pocket and those who make the most pay the most. It would than truly be a pay as you go. notice the Rep want to reform health care which help Americans but say nothing about bank reform. Never mention the Glass steagall act being put back into place the cause of the whole collapse. Sen Maria Cantwell responded and I hope if nothing else some of my ideas will be taken into thought. Now a good time to get there attention. Maybe a few of you should suggest something that can help us get out of Bush debt and stop worrying who running the joy stick..Tea party has rhetoric but not much substances.

I love your idea of the war tax...makes perfect common sense...so good luck with that Agree about the return of Glass Steagall would be an immense help I think the filibuster in the senate needs to be removed...and I have made my thoughts known on that and there is already some good movement on that and the Prez is getting behind it. I really support a strong infrastructure bill as repub policies have left our infrasture crumbling. Their philosophy is not to do public investment so the US is turning into a third world banana republic it would also help the jobs situation. There was a bit of good news with the employment reports today and private sector employment continues to rise of course it's not fast enough considering we had lost about 8 million jobs in this recession. The stimulus worked and employment usually is the last indicator to improve. By the 2012 election the economy should be improved and the Dems will be in a great position unless the repubs are successful with turning that success around and trashing the economy again, since that is what they do best.

a worthwhile read ... A return to the norm By Charles Krauthammer (Washington Post) Friday, November 5, 2010 For all the turmoil, the spectacle, the churning - for all the old bulls slain and fuzzy-cheeked freshmen born - the great Republican wave of 2010 is simply a return to the norm. The tide had gone out; the tide came back. A center-right country restores the normal congressional map: a sea of interior red, bordered by blue coasts and dotted by blue islands of ethnic/urban density. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/04/AR2010110406581.html

That's the question, I reckon. The greatest irony of the debate between the two sides is their common meesage: "Keep government out of our lives."
