The ..2012.... Political thread

For Edwards to be found guilty he has to have known he was breaking the law. But for the rest of us we were always told ignorance of the law is no excuse. He's gonna beat this whole thing by sticking to his story that he didn't know he was breaking the law. With all his money it would have been like pocket change to take care of his mistress with his money but he was too greedy and used other peoples money instead. He used the money from people who believed in him and donated to his campaign. He's the lowest of the low.

I remember when Reagan called the USSR an, "Evil Empire." I took a look around and thought, "Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black, Ronnie?"

That about sums it up.
I have two questions for you: I believe you're sincere about your wholehearted admiration and support for Weiner, even if he did send the picture, but was there a time in your life when you held the public leaders that you support to a higher standard (ie, that they not be hypocritical liars)? The second question, which you don't have to answer if you don't want to: are you married?
Well, in light of recent events...gee, is my face, er, ... ...maroon? I am of the belief that ALL men in power screw around. All of 'em. And it is not our place to judge. The "ability to govern" and "gettin' your freak on" are two separate issues.

Mike, we totally agree.

so the little wiener was guilty. Your name is wiener and your taking picture of your wiener and sending them over the internet to women. Obama must just be going " give me something to work with here pleeeease!!" I wonder if this was sent from his office and on a goverment computer and during working hours. If so he should be sent packing. I like his polictics but anyone who is serious about serving people isn't doing this kind of stuff.

Not so sure about that, my friend: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_edwards_investigation

I suppose Edwards couldn't use some of his millions to hide his mistress away because his wife Elizabeth Edwards probably knew what they had down to the last penny and would demanded to know where all that money went. Why did it cost so much to hide his little chippie away, anyway? Almost a million bucks! My local newspaper published an editorial saying Edwards was a bad person inside all along, greedy, shallow, vain, ignorant, a liar and cheater in everything and did "nothing" in four years as senator, man, they really let him have it. They said he never really cared about "the poor" at all and just used that for political gain. I wonder if Edwards is really as bad as the editorial states. He seemed to hold such high ideals, had progressive ideas. My mother thinks he was having a mid life crisis, his son Wade getting killed at age 16, running for V.P. and Prez when he knew he was unqualified, finding out Elizabeth had terminal cancer, all that made him flip his wig.

and all those Katrina victims he foreclosed on? He was a egomaniac and his wife was right by his side. My heart goes out to the kids. These two had kids clearly to keep a bad marriage together. She clearly used some medical intervention. Do the math. She was in her 60's when she passed and it pretty unlikely she getting PG at 58.

Should Weiner go? How many woman are being touted for mayor of NY? Hold your hands up! Maybe if the woman of Washington used these sexcapdes as a way to advance their position there would be less of it and more Elizabeth Warrens in office.

I read they're making a movie out of the whole crazy Edwards escapades--it's going to be wild

He should stay. If we can forgive evangelists and Republican senators for their man-on-man, truck-stop hanky-panky, we can certainly overlook this. We really focus too much on politicians' private lives anyway. Yeah, he screwed up big-time, but it would be hypocritical of most people to say that he should lose his job over it.

Evangelists forgiven & kept their "jobs"? Jim Bakker - resigned the PTL org, was sentenced to 45 years, his then wife Tammy divorced him. He got out of prison early, took a simpler - more lowly job (not on tv or radio). Not sure how he's on the forgiveness wagon (esp. those who lost their life savings). Jimmy Swaggart - never climbed back up (anywhere near) to when the was on tv or radio. Forgiven, yes - but maybe not trusted the same. No, he didn't keep the job he had (he was voted out). The foot tapper is out of office - did he resign?? The Appalacian trail 'hiker' resigned ... Newt G. (Speaker of the House) resigned ... Nixon resigned. btw. Welcome Back MikeMc You can do much better than I on the political end

The Jims Swaggart and Bakker, today, are living very comfortable lives with thriving ministries. I kinda' felt sorry for Jim Bakker -- he got royally bamboozled by that low-life snake Jerry Falwell. And I said they were forgiven. That's supposed to be something that Christians know a thing or two about. Of course, many Christians rarely act Christ-like

Forever the spinner - we don't agree on the ministers yesterday v. today. Seems strange you want to "ignore" the forgivenenss that also comes from people (such as investors that have likewise "forgiven Bernie Madoff ). No comment on the Republican politicans "out of their jobs", ehh??

Where are you getting that "out of their jobs" quote? And I'm not spinning anything. And how in the hell is Bernie Madoff relevant to this?

So your Ok to lying politician? This isn't about the dick its about how he went on national TV, used all these talking heads who support Obama and lied to them and the public. Look what damage Bill Clinton blow job caused the Democrat party and this country.. Because of g his sex life which was pretty damn sorted. Letting it be dragged threw the media and refusing to step down.. fuc face got elected and look how that fuc king worked out.

Keep or loose their jobs - did you not notice that you said Anthony Weiner should stay (in other words - keep his present political job)? You made that statement right before your defensive ramble that if we can forgive evangelists and Republican Senators ... then we can overlook (Weiners trangressions) ... Spin on the ministers ... combining them into your reasoning why Weiner should stay & not leave ... Like Madoff (Bakker really did in the people who bought properties in his PTL themeland). It was Bakker & board members who chose Falwell to take over in his absense - someone who was far removed from his then belief system. What he got, he (and voting board members) should have forseen ...

Perhaps Weiner should resign when Clarence Thomas resigns...after all it's already been proven that Thomas lied on SC disclosure forms where the justices list any outside income that might influence their decisions on upcoming cases. He "forgot" that his wife made over $700K for ultra-right wing organizations that profited from the Citizens United ruling. I would be fine with that after all there are many good dems that can take Weiner's s place. Clarence Thomas should resign
