Lonely Driver:
For example, you predict 1-1 -- If score ends 1-1 after 120', you get 3 points. (And 1 point if you predicted the winner) -- If score is 1-1 after 90' and match remains drawn after 120' but with added goals during extra-time (eg, it ends 2-2), you get 0 point. (And 1 point if you predicted the winner) -- Along the same lines, if score is 0-0 after 120', you get 0 points. (And 1 point if you predicted the winner) -- If score is 1-1 after 90' but a winner is determined during extra-time, you get 1 points if you predicted the right winner.
Geez, now I'm really confused. If someone accurately predicts the correct result (a draw), they receive nothing and have to rely on the lottery of spot kicks to gain something? And if the team they chose to win on penalties loses, then it's 0 points? Very unfair imo. If someone is brave enough to predict that a match will go to penalties, they must get something for that. Correct result should equal at least 1 point, whether it's a win or a draw. 0-0 after 120' goes down in the FIFA archives as a draw. I would ALMOST argue that correctly predicting a game going to penalties is about as equal to correctly predicting an exact 2-1 scoreline. In addition (and here's where I'm totally confused), in the last example you're saying that if you predict 1-1..... if it's 1-1 after 90' equals 0 points, but if you predicted the correct winner after extra-time you get 1 point. Whaaa?! You predict 1-0 Greenland I predict 1-1, Greenland on penalties Match ends 1-1 after 90', Greenland wins 2-1 after 120' You receive 1 point I receive 1 point too?

And the 1 point for winner after the whole match, with penalty kicks if nescessary) You predict 1-0 Greenland I predict 1-1, Greenland on penalties Match ends 1-1 after 90', Greenland wins 2-1 after 120' You receive 1 point I receive 1 point too? Yes!

The point is that imo it´s a quite simple system, you just score 3 points on the right score after playing time, and a 1 point by predicting the right winner. But maybe we´d better decide now to use your system, cause this might get a little confusing for everybody .
-
I'm still here. I've decided to include penalty kicks in the scoring system. So if you plan on predicting any games going to penalties, include who you think will win the spot kicks. I'm just trying to adjust the rest of it all to sound as fair as possible. Not easy.

Okay. I've changed the scoring system a bit to include matches that end up going to penalties. Also made slight adjustments elsewhere. Click my signature link for full scoring system I realize some may not like some of the scoring, but... it's just a game, everyone. Let's have fun!

Btw, thanks Lonely Driver for the suggestions. tried the best I could, but I really do appreciate input from others. Besides, it doesn't make me feel as guilty if someone doesn't like it all.

A Statement From FIFA's Referees Committee 23 June 2006 by FIFA Thursday evening?s 2-2 draw between Croatia and Australia in Stuttgart saw referee Graham Poll make an error. In the 61st minute of the game the English official showed the Croatian No. 3 Josip Simunic his first yellow card, followed by a second caution with just one minute of the game remaining. Instead of ordering the defender off for a second yellow card, however, the referee allowed him to stay on the pitch thinking he had only booked him once. Immediately after blowing the final whistle, Poll gave Simunic another yellow card before finally showing him the red. The experienced official is disappointed at having committed the error, the first such mistake in his 26-year career. The FIFA Referees Committee also recognised the oversight and the fact that none of the match officials at the stadium picked up on the error. In explaining his actions to the Committee, Poll said he incorrectly noted down the name of the Australia No. 3 Craig Moore when booking Simunic for the second time and failed to realise his error. In confirming the official?s mistake, Angel Maria Villar Llona, the President of the FIFA Referees Committee, added that Poll was an exceptional referee and a great sportsman, who would be able to overcome the situation thanks to his strong personality and love of the game. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060623/1/860x.html Fwiw, the Official Match Report still omits the 89' booking. Since they've admitted it took place, it should be noted on there.

I think your new scoring system makes sense and is very clear. I´m gonna stick with my earlier predictions. Now I´m gonna relax in the sun and maybe do some warming up for an afternoon and evening full of soccer and Formula 1 racing (YES!)

I re-edited one of my predictions acording to your new approach, unclesox!

2:0 in 12'. Die Bundesrepublik is looking VERY impressive. Germany-Argentina looks quite interesting. Just hope the Albiceleste take care of business later today.

Fwiw, I'm a bit surprised that FIFA allowed both teams to wear their traditional kits. (light shirts/dark shorts/light socks) I realize most people have colour televisions, but I'm sure there are many who don't and FIFA usually accommodates those with black/white tv by having teams wearing different kits. Even if it's at least different shade of socks (2002 World Cup Final, for example).

What a nightmare for Sweden. Without two great saves from Isaksson it could have been 4-0. And now they got a red card... Difficult for them now. Why on earth did the ref smile when he showed the red card???
-
There have been many complaints about the number of cards the referees have shown. The numbers I've heard were close to 240 total during the group stages. 48 matches... That's FIVE cards a match!
