I'm very down. I really wanted Spain to rid themselves of that 'underacheivers' tag. I'm hoping 'Dinho and his friends can ease my pain. Not to mention Argentina.

[Die Helden von Bern - the brick final[/size">](
]<span style=) -- (it lasts over 10 minutes)Wow, I always thought this was only so emotional for Germans. Around here, everyone knows at least one sentence from this broadcast (it was the radio commentary, not the TV one): "Aus! Aus! Das Spiel ist aus!" which means the game is over. Also the commentary about Rahn's goal is widely known.
First time I've ever heard that commentary. Hey, I have a question for you that I hope you can answer. Remember when Germany used to wear green shirts for their alternate kit? How did green become the color of choice? There's no green in the national flag. There's one rumor that most people believe and I want to know what you have heard, if anything. (I know Germany now have red shirts as their second kit )
-
I'm not sure what the official explanation really was but I think it was justified by the fact that the (modern) DFB logo is green and white (the original DFB logo is the one I have in my current avatar and that is still the one on the German shirts). If you go to the official website, you can see it: http://www.dfb.de/. It's in the left upper corner. Then again, they might just have picked this colour at random. I know that most players hated it. I'm curious, though, what rumors you're referring to.

THIS IS AWESOME!! One of the greatest upsets in World Cup history is the 1954 Final in Berne, Switzerland where West Germany, against all odds, defeated Hungary 3:2 after being down 0:2 early in the game. Helmut Rahn scored two goals for West Germany to become a national hero. The captain of that team was the legendary Fritz Walter. And the coach was Sepp Herberger. "The Miracle Of Berne" holds a special place in the history of the sport and basically kick-started the dominance of West Germany in future tournaments. A film was recently made about the event. (I'd love to watch it there's an English language version available) I found this amazing video on YouTube that had me laughing while watching it, yet almost brought me to tears while listening to it. This is a very accurate replay of the game done... in LEGO form! And what really punctuates the video is the original commentary from 1954 German television/radio by Herbert Zimmermann. I barely understand a word of German, but listening to Zimmerman's voice as the excitement jumped out from his voice every time West Germany scored really tugged at the fussball heartstrings inside of me for some reason. (And I have no German ancestory in me that I know of) Probably because I know what place this game has in the history of the sport, which I love to read about. It starts off with still photos up to when Hungary has taken a 2:0 lead. From that point on, when the comeback begins, it changes to motion video. Great stuff!! "Aus! Aus! Aus, das Spiel ist aus! Deutschland is Weltmeister!" That commentator alone being excited was worth the look What a cute video this is...must have cost the makers a LOT of sweat and work.

Brazil won as expected. I have to admit, I fell asleep... Not an exciting match. Damn that third goal! audrey's first prediction was 3-0? awwww, sorry to hear that.
I agree. I dont know why Parreira always play with Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Adriano. Adriano and Ronaldo cant play together. Roberto Carlos is not in a good fase. Cafu is old. Brazil´s team is another team when Cicinho, Robinho, Juninho Pernambucano, Gilberto Silva play. He said" I am in Germany to be champion not to play a beautiful football. Nobody cares about beautiful football. People only remember the champion team". I agree 50%, but I dont want to see Brazilians playing like Europeans. Brazil and Argentina belongs to the first division of the football. Germany, France, Italy, are in the secodn division. Brazil and Argentina teach football to the world, if they started playing a crap but efficient football, they will not win anything. Brazil won 5 times because they were more than efficient. They were creative. Creativity belongs to Argentina and Brazil. And Brazil needs to play good football, just like Argentina. IT´s time for the 2 biggest teams of the world to play a final. I was so glad Spain lost. I dont like France and I hate Spain. It´s time to revenge. Brazil x France

According to the DFB, their original logo included the colors white, black and red which matched the color of Prussia. Sometime last year I was involved in a discussion about this topic and discovered some interesting things. From what I understand, this current logo was adopted sometime during the 1950s. So too were the alternate green shirts. But as you've mentioned, the original logo was kept and continued to be displayed on the team shirts. The DFB provides no information as to how or why green was chosen, but the common belief that many had heard was that Ireland were the first team to play West Germany after World War II and the Germans decided to thank the Irish by adopting their shirt color for the alternate strip of the Mannschaft. There's just one problem with this theory: Ireland wasn't the first team to play West Germany after WWII. It was Switzerland, in 1950. Ireland were the fourth team to play FRG, following another match against Switzerland and games against Turkey and Austria. Another interesting thing I found out was that West German passports ("reisepass", right?) before Unification were also green. As was a German driver's license. And politically, there is a Green Party in Germany. So, for some reason, the color green was/is very much associated with Germany. Btw, I hear that a reisepass today is red. As are the German team's alternate shirt color. Perhaps it has to do with Switzerland being Germany's first opponent after WWII!

As far as I know our passport colour changed when they printed European Union on it. Now I'm not so sure if other EU states also have the same red. It's Bordeaux red, though, and thus has nothing to do with the Swiss national colors. Until the Republic of Weimar our national colours were red, white and black. Since the explanation green logo -> green shirt seems to be plausible I see no reason to doubt it. I personally like the red shirts better, though, since red is my favourite colour.
