As an austrian* I have to be glad, "officially", but I predicted Germany to win; plus I secretly rooted for the germans cos I think they played a very good tournament... very strange! * you know I could hear all my neighbours screaming enthuastically when the azurri scored; they`re having a party right now in my house, I guess
-
that was an amazing game. I was originally rooting for Germany, but I think Italy deserved the win.
-
What a great game that was! I think Italy deserved to win, I think they've played some very good, entertaining football in this World Cup. I feel a bit sorry for the germans, though. They were so close to penalties.

I think I screamed so loud that it could still be heard in Transdanubien

All Austrians are supposed to be happy when Germany lose?

It`s a bit like Scotland and England; so in a word: YES! but like I said before; I felt a little bit sad when the game was over; cos I think Germany deserved the final, not because of that particular game but because of the whole tournament so far...

hehe. I won't tell any Austrians that you felt sad when the game was over. Damn that second goal. I was so close to predicting the right score. 13 points each now, Stefan. What a thriller this will be!

I'm sure many English and Dutch fans are having a laugh as well. Probably Superbet and her countrymen too. Amazing stuff. Pirlo's setup on the first was lovely. Buffon has only let in one goal the whole tournament, and that was an own goal! Italy's 11 goals have been scored by 9 different players!
-
Italy was really strong in extra-time. What the hell did they do before this? At times the game was quite dull, but at least Klinsmann made a good show, throwing his water bottle around. Well, in the end, Italy was the better team. I wonder who we'll play in the "small final", maybe Portugal?

On the other hand, wouldn't it be more honourable to have lost against the future world champions in the quarter finals?
-
ooooooooohhh, this is SO sad.... we were sooooooo close to penalties....... I'm still in shock Oh well, still our boys did brilliantly and now we're going for 3rd place. YAY! Not everybody has made it this far. Congrats to the Italians.
-
Bad luck with Italy scoring two goals in the last two minutes! They deserved to win, though. Germany wasn't bad at all, over large parts of the game the two teams were at one level. But in the end, I think the Italians were a small touch better, which turned the balance in their direction - especially from the second half on into overtime, when they massively strengthened their offense, while keeping their defense at stable level. The Germans had their chances too, but could not use them. Somehow it makes sense, though - Germany won the tournament in Italy, back in 1990 - now Italy may win the tournament in Germany... I wish them best of luck now, anyway.

i can't believe it...every team i thought would be in finals are out...i was supporting England & Germany....but in predictions thought it was going to be down to Brazil v Argentina! well all four are out! I think the World Cup and the whole game of football is unpredictable...but i think i'm going to go into football withdrawals after the 9th! i can not imagine who will win this now....but i'm thinking if France win today MAYBE they are the ones...but have to wait and see. the reason i say France is because of the incredible playing of Theiry Henry, and others on that team...he's quite amazing and his whole side seem like the tightest team (like they know each other and hang out off the pitch when possible) more so than like England or Germany...being they players are all from the different country teams (i know all the WC teams players play elsewhere...but somehow these guys seem like they know each others moves best.) i know it's difficult to get that synergy needed to be a strong team and know each other's every next move..but France seems to have that in their favor....since I've been pretty much wrong all along I'm pretty sure i'll be wrong again. I never even heard of Henry before these games...but sure wish someone like him would come to play in MLS we need a shot in the arm of some sort...the interest here in the US is just not like other places. Well....we'll soon know who the finals opponent for ITALY will be..... I think part of the un-doing of England was CRonaldo knowing his Man United teammate (Rooney) so well and that he'd blow a fuse and he knew how to get him to blow a fuse. With that and Beckham going off that game was finished at that point. sorry if all this has been discussed already (bout rooney/CRonaldo)... Exciting times tho'................I wish they had WC every two years than every 4!
-
wow...didn't mean to make such a big post there....but i just realized i don't even think I predicted France to win today!

Oh, no way! That would devalue the whole thing then. In 2008 we'll have the European Championships (EURO 200 to talk about. There'll also be the Asia Cup, which I quite like. Copa America is usually every two years in the odd numbered years (2007, 2009, etc). In some quarters... let me stress that again: In SOME quarters there are those who actually believe that the EURO tournament is better than the World Cup. The reason behind this belief is that all sixteen qualifiers for that tournament are of strong quality and make for a good tournament. I do feel that this is a good argument because the last two tournaments have been very enjoyable to watch, especially EURO 2000, which many claim to be the best ever tournament, period. (World Cups included). The best description I've heard about the EURO is that it's basically the World Cup without Brazil and Argentina. The 2008 edition will be co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland. Still, I enjoy it when the minnows from Asia, CONCACAF and Africa shake up the big boys in the World Cup. Although I guess that "minnows" tag has slowly been removed what with the way teams from those regions almost expect to reach at least the 2nd Round, some even the Quarterfinals. In the meantime, it'll back to club football in August, baby! FC Koln are back down in 2.Bundesliga but Barcelona are ready to go after their third straight Spanish La Liga title. There's also the opportunity of successfully defending the Champions League, which hasn't been accomplished since the revamping of that tournament in the early 90s. The 2007 CL Final will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Athens. There are ghosts in that stadium from 1994 waiting to be excorcised by Barcelona with the lifting of that beautiful trophy known as "Big Ears"! So no withdrawals for me. I'm ready for the leagues to get going! Bring it on!!

What did I say about Germany? It is easy to beat Sweden, and teams like that. Germany football is that predictable thing and Italy was efficient. AVANTE AZUUUUUUUURRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Funny people were screaming where I live. Maybe because we are Italian descendant
