Sonnamavitch! Eto'o out for two months after suffering a partial tear in his right thigh after attempting this shot three minutes into the 2nd half of the Gamper against Inter Milan. He'd only just come on as a second half sub. I was against the signing of Henry at the time, but I suppose it's become more meaningful now. Bojan was supposed to return to Barca B while at the same time continuing to train with the first team. No idea if he'll be kept in the squad for now. Ezquerro and Gudjohnsen are still around. Really sucks, but could be a blessing in disguise.
-
how bad is he hurt?
-
Bad enough that he's out for two months. Suffered a partial tear in his right thigh. A shame because he seemed to be getting back to form after his five-month spell out through injury last season. Motta looks to have been sold to Atletico Madrid. Athletic Bilbao would still like Ezquerro to return.

do you ever post at bigsoccer.com ?
Every single day. (Join Date: 08 Mar 2003) Mainly in the Barcelona section. This season I've been starting the match threads. I have the same handle there as I do here. (unclesox) Funny story: A few months ago I was having trouble with my computer so I called The Geek Squad. ops: A guy answered and I told him about my comp problems, and threw in that I was currently viewing a soccer message board. He asked me if I was a soccer fan and if I'd ever visited BigSoccer. He turned out to be a Boca Juniors fan. I think we talked more about soccer than computers. Now we'll occasionally message each other whenever our teams are doing well. I've been to a lot of football boards but BigSoccer is by far my favorite. Seems to be a very popular site. It was chaos during the World Cup.

Ah, you're a Spurs fan. After the 2006 Champions League I went over to the Spurs board and posted all kinds of stuff cuz you guys were loving that Arsenal had lost. A lot you had wished Barca luck before the game so I repaid you all.

Etoo damage was supposed to be on his thigh. But Barça doctors have said it's his... Achilles' heel (that's it on English?, lol). They have done surgery to him and they plan Etoo to start training in two months, and playing in three months. They said some years ago Bojan and Giovanni will remain in the First team. Yes, Motta confirmed to Atletico de Madrid. Spanish market has closed with no "late suprise", quite unusual. The bigger one is Motta so... Teams closed officially. Now EA Sports could start selling FIFA08 and the new ProEvolutionSoccer would do the same. The funny thing is that real players use to be fan of those games and they play while resting after training... Some days ago I scored the same kind of Goal that Pirlo to Jankulovsky in the SuperCup with Zambrotta and Silvinho... Hey, unclesox... after so many posts I don't remember what's your "team", are you supporter of some club?

Discovered the European leagues by watching Bundesliga matches during the late-1970s. Became a big follower of 1. FC Köln since 1978. Köln's rivals at the time were Fortuna Düsseldorf, and when they reached the 1979 Cup Winners Cup final I rooted for their opponents FC Barcelona. Knew nothing about them at the time. In 1980 Bernd Schuster moved from Köln to Barcelona so that sealed a love affair with Barça. English football was shown here around 1979-80 too. Nottingham Forest were the big boys then and I was so happy to see them lose the '80 League Cup final that I kind of adopted their conquerors, Wolverhampton Wanderers, as my favorite English side. But I don't really follow them as much as I do Köln and Barça. Over here in the U.S. I used to love the old San Jose Earthquakes during the NASL days. Never really followed them as much since MLS was formed.

THE MONSTER IS BACK The joy returned last week. The good playing, after years.... But this week they have called Real Madrid a "football machine". I haven't heard that since.... since... 2002 I guess.... 0-5 to Villarreal (they were undefeated since April and won last week to Valencia!). And they could have been 10, Real Madrid players walked a lot with the ball trought Villareal's penalty area. This is like Back To The Past... At Last. Sneijder is the great passer we wanted like in the first goal... and the first (the most difficult and important) goal is almost always scored by the smartest striker in the world, Raul. Anybody can score the 0-2 0-3 0-4... It seems this is for real. It's back. Barcelona wasn´t bad... the usual referee help.. but they would have won anyway... Ronaldinho superb free kick was the... first difficult important goal and the rest was easy. I said last season that Spanish teams wouldn't go far in Champions League. This time it seems the other way round.

21st Century Paul:
THE MONSTER IS BACK
They should be. They certainly had monster spending!

Valencia were down to 9 men. Should we just hand the trophy to Real right now then? : Very good performance overall, but it's just one match. They made hard work agaisnt Atletico last week. One bad result and everyone will be questioning Schuster again. If there's anyone who knows about "usual referee help", it's a Madridista.

For Barcelona, Abidal looks to be a better buy than I thought. Made some incredible runs along the left. Ronaldinho performed the way it's expected as he was running all over the pitch, eager to be involved throughout. Great freekick goal, almost scored off anther three minutes later, could've completed his hattrick after a lovely cross whipped in by Abidal. With Giovani in the side I'd like to see R'dinho be rested as often as is able to, which means Barca need to finish. Poor finishing has been their achilles heel since early 2006. I think Real Madrid has the toughest group in the Champions League. Barcelona could've had a tougher draw. Lyon don't appear to be what they've been in recent seasons.
-
No monster spending... they bought for 119 milions but sold for 50... and they have reduced the payroll of the team a lot. There were players with 6 milions salaries (Roberto Carlos, Beckham) and some very high (Emerson, Helguera...) and that are gonna be replaced for some players not so well paid. All the Europe national teams have played. Italy 0 - France 0 "The Great Battle" or revenge, with Pavarotti sounding at the start... and 0-0 like all the angry matches end... England 3 - Isreal 0 Wales 0 - Germany 2 It seems easy for the World Champion nations but no-one is close to be qualified... Us??? 1-1 Still alive... A goal from my neighbour Iniesta and that's all... The greatest thing of the match for me is that after the red car for Alonso, our coach choosed to play with... 3 defenders! instead of remaining 4 and taking out an striker of midfield. And it can work. 1-1 with only 10 men is not bad. Cruyff used 3 defenders only and won 4 leagues and a Champions League with Barça. Van Gaal did it too and won 3 leagues with Barça, a Champions League with Ajax and some leagues with Ajax I guess. But no I don't remember three defenders in national teams. The coach must be very brave. Aragones was open-minded and brave to do it. So to sit down Joaquin and Torres, that would never have to play for me. Run and dribble and nothing more. Spain must play with 3 defenders only... because we don't have 4 good enough defenders!... Germany played once with 5 because they had Kohler, Sammer, etc.... but we have Puyol, Sergio Ramos and nothing more. But we have the greatest bunch of great passers in the world: Xavi, Alonso, Cesc, Silva, De La Peña, Guti, Valerón, Iniesta... we should use them the more the better adding 3 defenders and two or one striker. And one of them has to be Rauuuuuuuuuulllll..... if not who's gonna open the defense? It could be Casillas; Sergio Ramos, anyone, Puyol; Xavi, Alonso, Cesc; Iniesta, Guti, Silva; Raul. Villa could enter but Spain should play 3-5-2... Casillas; Sergio, anyone, Puyol; Iniesta, Xavi, Alonso, Guti/Cesc, Silva; Villa, Raul I dig great passers and smart strikers. They are who make you win when the defense of the other team is on the back. I even have played some matches in fifa07 with four defenders in Spain with bad results... Sergio, Helguera, Puyol, Del Horno... I switched to 3 and all went better.... and I took Vicente and Joaquin off, "dribble for nothing", and get the great passers into the midfield.

For all the good that the three defenders did, that 1-1 draw wouldn't have mattered had Northern Ireland not lost to Latvia. The 0-0 between Sweden and Denmark also helped a lot. Still, I'm glad Spain is still alive. Should beat Latvia on Wednesday but the big games are in October and November when they play Sweden and Northern Ireland at home and I think have Denmark away. A draw against Sweden shouldn't hurt too much but they must beat Northern Ireland and at least draw with Denmark to qualify, imo. I'm in favor of fresh blood. Spain can't keep relying on Raul now that he's hit 30. The manner in which Xabi Alonso got sent off was stupid. And they say that Aragones is quite a disciplinarian. You think Aragones will remember what X.Alonso did, and could this open the door for Arteta to finally be given a chance? After Casillas and Reina, who would you put as Spain's #3 keeper: Palop or Valdes?

did u see US v Brazil?
-
Missed the USA game. I mainly watched the EURO qualifiers. October 17th is an open date when Spain is not involved in any qualification games so the RFEF shouldn't get into a panty twist over the U.S. and Catalunya rescheduling their friendly for next month. Scotland, 1-0 at the Parc des Princes! Rod Stewart is probably keeping next June open on his scheduling so that he can pencil in an appearance with the Tartan Army should a gig come up in Austria and Switzerland next summer. Spain missed loads of chances against Latvia but still came away with the three points. And Iceland helped out the Spaniards big time. Eng-er-land may make it to the finals after all. I was ready to leave them for dead.

Anyone but Valdes, almost.... If Barça had Casillas instead of Valdes they would have 20 points more every season. Cañizares has left the national team... anyway the third goalkeeper never plays... Palop for instance. Yesterday Madrid won 3-1. With the "recently usual referee help" this time. Yes, Real Madrid had a long time of disagreements with the Spanish Football Federation and it was punished by the referees, now is the other way round. The Real Madrid president somehow signed peace and the referee do that old little helps that in Spain use to favour big teams... like Barça too. But this week Laporta has been "The Walrus" claiming about everything... and saying he's thinking of not letting the players go to the next national teams matches (all the players, not only the Spanish ones)... and maybe that stops the peace Barça has with Federation since some time ago and now the referees will go against Barça. They play today at Spanish 9 pm, with Iniesta instead of Etoo or Messi. And Bojan could play in the second half. I would not miss it but Spain basketball team plays the finals of the European Championship. And especially Juan Carlos Navarro is known by my family and a little by me... a regular of our city squares... and bars... sometimes Gasol and others too. Sometimes we see the Basketball match and we think "From this bar to World Champion?" It can happen!. Final with Russia, but thinking too in the Olympics where we would want to play with aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllll of the NBA US stars... cause if Kobe of Shaq are missing... maybe if we win... it would not be the same for some... Juan Carlos Navarro will play next year in the Elvis city with Gasol. He will change my/his hometown for Elvis hometown... (and Spanish football players use to go to the Beatles hometown, you know...)
