As for the World Cup Spain seems to be in a strange moment where nobody except Iniesta is sure to be in the starting XI, lots of possibilities, so lots of doubts too.
I would say Ramos, Alba, Busquets, Xabi Alonso and Iniesta are definite starters. Probably Piqué and Casillas as well. Valdes was in great form all season and may have had a chance at starting in goal but with him out through injury it has to be Casillas. De Ge perhaps the backup? Very surprised Arbeloa didn't make the team. I wish Albiol had been left out instead. No idea who the striker will be with Diego Costa looking uncertain. Torres may get the start through default. Maybe David Villa. So many great options in midfield although I think Xavi's time has run out. Isco probably deserved a spot in the team.
Well, Del Bosque, the way he is, he's going to play the typical Spain XI, something like Casillas, Ramos, Alba, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva and then probably Cesc, Alonso and I guess Azpilicueta. But I don't think these players are in top form at all. So I think it's unsure they really deserve to be in the starting XI Kind of your point with Xavi and Isco. Maybe Koke, Javi Martinez and others too like Carvajal (if Carvajal was in the World Cup...). Strikers? What strikers? I think Spain will play again without strikers. Maybe Torres but Diego Costa doesn't fit in the team, he's not the kind of forward for playing with Spain, as far as I know.

I'm into our league . I don't get some of the rules. It seems substitutions are not like the Champions League ones. Once a player has played you can not substitute him for other that hasn't played yet (I think, lol). And there's is the "captain" who is like the Champions League one, you can change him in spite he has played , I think. We'll see after the first matchday. It seems there will be a lot of points for recovered balls. As there are 16 matches for every round (in the group stage) you can try up to 16 captains (lol) but I think I won't dedicate too much time to it... Anyway it's world cup time, let the fun begin.

It sounds like it's the same as the Champions League. Here what it says between "Player limits" and 3. ROUNDS": You can change every player in your line-up that has already played during the current round for any other relevant player in your squad that hasn?t already played. You can also change the captain as long as the new captain hasn?t already started to play. For example if you have placed NEYMAR on Your Pitch and he did not perform as well as you expected after the first match you can replace him with a forward from your bench that hasn?t already played during the current round. You would lose the points from NEYMAR for the round but the new player might get more points. If you don't make any changes to your team the current team will continue to score points for you. So I think we'll be okay.

"You can change every player in your line-up that has already played during the current round for any other relevant player in your squad that hasn?t already played." Yes, it sounds just like the Champions League, I got it wrong. So I've pick up a line-up of stars and the rest are fillers. Anyway, the group stages are my weakest thing. I don't have a clue about most of the teams, especially before they start playing and I see the XIs and style they use. But there are a few players that I know very well...

Yes, still here. But no more predictions game. It made this thread quite active in 2006 but tbh it was quite a task to keep up with everyone's predictions and scores. But the thread does get bumped every four years at the very least. Actually, Oliver and I bump it up every September when the UEFA Champions League fantasy game begins and we'll occasionally comment on other things. Spain v Holland on Friday! The nerves are slowly creeping in as the hours and minutes tick down. Opening match was good up until the penalty. Most everyone - except Scolari - didn't think it was a penalty. But after all the fouls Brazil got away with at the Confederations is anyone really surprised? :

well, classical Del Bosque but even more intense... lol... He sticked with the typical Spain's XI + Diego Costa in spite they're not in top form and Diego Costa doesn't fit in the team... as I said. Anyway I expected Spain to lose but not a 5-1. This result is so bad that Spain could win the next 2 matches and still not qualify for the next rounds. Maybe the positive thing (maybe I'm too optimistic but well...) is that this result will shock Del Bosque and he will really change things. Kind of like happened in the Euro Cup and the last World Cup. I remember myself then saying here "This playing is good enough for winning this team but it won't be enough for winning the cup." This time is kind of more obvious. And here we are again, 8 years later, hoping that Del Bosque, again, quits the 4231. : As for Brazil, kind of the same, I don't think his 4231 fits their style. They'll get extra "help" from the referee as usual in the World Cup with the hosting team. Spain had it too back in 1982...

Certainly some unexpected results so far... I was expecting Spain and also Uruguay to do better than that. Italy played pretty well. Uruguay v England will be interesting now on Thursday.
