Boring game till Sneijder came in and Real Madrid played the ball and stopped the ugly playing. 1-1 till... yes... well, not the Raul goal... but the usual Raul thing and a penalty done to him and scored by him. It's his goal number 200 in the Spanish League and he's the top scored ever in the Champions League/European Cup of Clubs What more does this guy have to do to be recognized??? Real Madrid 2-Espanyol 1 Tamudo received in the Bernabeu with a ovation, he scored the goals against Barça in the last match of the last season. and tomorrow Barcelona vs Villareal, that's supposed to be a great match.

Meanwhile... Back on Wednesday Ramon Calderon continued to make a fool of himself and of the club he runs. A Nicolas Cage lookalike managed to get red carpet treatment at the Bernabeu last Wednesday during the Champions League tie against Roma. An Italian television presenter named Paolo Calabresi suckered Calderon and his cronies into thinking he was the Oscar-winning American actor. He got to watch the game from the directors' viewing area and was taken to the dressing room afterwards. He was even presented with a shirt with his, er, I mean Nicolas Cage's name on it. Real Madrid CF... Always good for a laugh. link to Reuters Now THAT is jogo bonito!

I wish Nicolas Cage went to watch a Internacional game

How funny... in the meantime there's the famous Beckham (and wife) look-a-likes going everywhere for free too.

Real Madrid wishes he'd go see their games too.

I remember back in the 80s there was a Michael Jackson look-a-like going around fooling common citizens. This was during MJ's "BAD" era. I bet that imposter doesn't go around looking like MJ these days.

Didn't the FA Cup just get a heap more interesting today. Barnsley (1) v Chelsea, (0) Man Utd (0) v Portsmouth, (1) Bristol Rovers v West Brom Middlesbrough v Cardiff None of the major Premiership sides have sacrificed places in this competition by fielding understrength sides this year. All the teams remaining are there on merit.
Another one bites the dust. As far as Premier League sides not fielding understrength sides, I'm not sure I would fully agree with that. Cech only played against Wigan (left out against QPR, Huddersfield and Barnsley) while Drogba only saw 30 minutes of action the entire tournament, against QPR (although he did miss a couple of rounds due to the African Cup). Liverpool against Barnsley rested Torres or Reina and didn't start Gerrard although Stevie G was on the pitch when Barnsley netted the winner. Still, both sides have enough quality in their squads that the argument of merit can be more than justified.

Barcelona 1-2 Villarreal A dagger in the heart and an eight point gap, but I'm not giving up on La Liga just yet. March 30 marks Jornada 30 of the season. Real Madrid are home to Sevilla while Barça are away to Betis. After that round has completed, the lead must be cut down to at least six points. Both the CL quarterfinals and semifinals (all four legs) are scheduled for the month of April as is the Copa del Rey final (which is no sure thing at this point either) If the lead in La Liga isn't down to at least 6 points, Barça should begin focusing on the Champions League. But wait until the end of the month as RM still doesn't look too stable.

CCFC!! Up you Bluebirds!!

I continue thinking Barça is no team really, they don't play as one. When Real Madrid lost agaist Roma, at least they played like at a team. But Barça don't do it. That's why the lose against Atletico de Madrid, Villareal, Real Madrid... but Real Madrid beated Atletico, Barça, Valencia... you can't beat big teams not playing as a team, and that's where Real Madrid got the 8 points.

You contradict yourself so much with what you said. Barcelona doesn't play as a team, so that's why they lose, yet Real win because they do play as a team? : Real Madrid's loss to Roma is proof that playing as a team does not guarantee victory. Barcelona are still playing for three trophies. Real Madrid only playing for one. Barcelona must be doing something right.
-
Nothing guarantees victory. But you're much likely to have it playing as a team... especially if you play with a great rival. If you play with the worst team on the League... it doesn't matter much how you play. Barcelona is playing for the European Cup, but I think got no chance to win. What does it matter if they got the chance if they don't win in the end? The Spanish League should be easier...

As it stands now, they're still in the tournament, thus they still have a chance to win it. Did you think Porto and Monaco would've met in the 2004 final? No. Did you think Liverpool had a chance to win it 2005 when they were paired with Juventus in the quarterfinals? Or when they were 0-3 down to Milan at halftime? No. Even last season everyone said that Milan's players were too old to win it. All this proves that in a knockout cup tournament, anything can happen.
21st Century Paul:
The Spanish League should be easier...
Diamonds said in February that Barcelona should concentrate on the Champions League because they have no hope in the Spanish League. Are you suggesting that Barcelona (8 points behind Real Madrid with 11 games to play) has a better chance to win the Spanish League than the European Cup and should concentrate on the League first?

I don't understand what you mean here.

Yes, I think that even if the chances are few, Barça has more chances in Spanish League cause Real Madrid seems... not stable... anyway I think Barça no way it's gonna be stable. But if both get mad... that's the only chance for Barça. But I don't think Liverpool, Manchester, Arsenal, Chelsea and Roma are all gonna get mad.

I mean that you have more possibilities to win if you play as a team, especially against tough teams.

Getting mad? You mean as in going wild and playing crazy and making mistakes? As long as the final isn't between Chelsea and Liverpool I'll be happy. Europe has seen those two 'play' each other enough times already. :

That's stating the obvious. You can say that about any team.
