For Spain, kind of the same thing repeated. Del Bosque changed some players but not the 4231 and Spain has had his worst performance in a world cup ever, I think. Probably Spain is right now the worst team in the world cup, lol. :
-
Spain looked good in the first half against Holland. Who knows what would have happened if David Silva had finished that chance. I think Tim Cahill's goal against Holland is the best so far. Love first-time volleys that rocket into goal.

Btw, are you able to see my list of players in the fantasy game because I can't see yours or Daniel's. I can only see your score from the first phase.

Germany-France has already kicked off (Hummels puts Germany 1-0) but here are my picks for the quarterfinals. Who I WANT to win: Germany > France Colombia > Brazil Argentina > Belgium Costa Rica > Netherlands Who I THINK will win: France Brazil Argentina Netherlands
-
Btw, two building cameras caught the audio of Buenos Aires when Angel Di Maria scored in the 116th minute against Switzerland on Tuesday. Needless to say, Argentines were very relieved that the match avoided the lottery of penalty kicks.
Most likely the typical response. -
Brazil v Germany I've never witnessed anything quite like that!!

I live in Framingham, MA...which is often referred to as 'Little Brazil'...I'm glad the Brazilians here are behaving better than they are in Brazil at the moment...wow But 7-1...it's hard for many of us Americans who don't avidly follow the sport to understand what a thrashing that is....I'm pretty sure it's comparable to a Superbowl that ended with a 60 to zero score
-
It's a thrashing beyond anything that can be described, it was almost 8-0 and I would say that sums up the game better! Brazil didn't deserve a single goal! Argentina through to the final...YES! Delighted, could be a cracker. Holland v Brazil in the third place playoff will be interesting. Nobody really cares about the result but it often leads to good attacking football. I wonder if Brazil will go to pieces again? Holland will certainly be motivated to thrash them the way Germany did!

In the first rounds I couldn't see your players either, but now I can.

It's like losing by 40 or 50 points in a basketball match. Well, it's worse than that, it's losing by 30 points when you're in half of the second quarter or so... and the rest is just waiting for the match to end cause no one cares about it anymore. And also losing like that in the playoffs while playing at home.

I want Germany to win. As Cruyff says, they're the only ones trying to play football or so. Netherlands, Brazil and Argentina are too defensive. Also Germany had kind of bad luck all these years because Spain was on top form and they were the 2nd best team without winning any championship. So, if Spain can't win, Germany deserves it even just for the past years (and maybe Italy too...). Also it would be great for football cause people use to copy winners... so if Argentina wins playing defensive, boring and violent, well... That's how Argentina is supposed to play the final "not risking balls" the coach says, I guess that is defensive and boring. And "with a lot of attitude" in a way that kind of means doing anything to stop the rivals. Good luck to the referee. I guess it's gonna be similar to the final of World Cup 2010 with Germany instead of Spain and Argentina instead of Netherlands.

Looks like you may get your wish - extra time goal by Germany and now only a little more than 2 min left
-
yes, kind of the same I expected. Goal in the minute 113 instead of minute 116, though. There were like 7 red cards that were not shown, as expected... so not a great match to watch, only great for the emotion of being the final of the world cup. I've just picked in some web poll my fav XI of the world cup and also is the XI choosen by most of the people of the website, except for Neymar. Neuer Lahm Hummels Thiago Silva Blind Kroos Mascherano James R. Robben Muller Neymar As for the best player, I don't know, the best players of the tournament also did huge mistakes. Lahm, Neuer, Hummels, Kro0s, maybe it was James but I haven't seen him enough to know it. Or maybe Robben. If it's for a great performance without mistakes then it's for David Villa . He only played 60 minutes but did a fantastic match against Australia.
-
...and now the useless and not serious at all Brains, Heart and Ball awards. The Golden Balls is for Neuer. For all his courage in going out of the area to stop the attacks and his usual confidence. The Golden Heart is for Mascherano and all his leadership on his team, he was the real coach, the real captain, etc. The Golden Brain is not easy. I haven't seen much of James Rodriguez but he seemed to do just what he had to do every moment. Maybe Robben for definitely giving up his selfish playing and refraining to dribble causing many goals like that.

And the final result of our league, Fantasy Football of this world cup. 1 Oliver Sanz (me) 742 2 unclesox 664 3 daniel 629 The rules of this have given extra points to the defenders because of points for stopping shots, recovering balls, etc. At first I didn't know what they were gonna consider a "recovered ball", it wasn't the same as in the Champions League. Then after the group stage I just looked for the defenders with more points, kind of the ones with more points for recovered balls they way they count them. And then choose as much as possible of them. They scored more points that the forwards and they were cheaper, so... And as usual I give a prize to myself for winning our league. hmmmm... I want to hear Paul singing with Led Zeppelin Okey! Whola Lotta Helter Skelter

Argentina, violent? Which World Cup were you watching? 1978? Argentina weren't "violent" in any way, shape or form. Certainly nowhere near the way Holland played the 2010 final nor the way Brazil played in this tournament. Going into the tournament Argentina's defence was suppose to be their biggest weakness. Instead, they were very organized throughout and impressed many. I would argue that their defending is what carried them to the final. Never thought I'd say that with Demichelis playing but even he was solid. Apart from Messi in the group stage their vaunted fire power went missing for most of the tournament. Higuian blew two glorious chances in the final (where they sorely missed Di Maria). Messi being named Player of the Tournament is laughable and I say that wearing rose-colored Barcelona glasses. Just on the Argentina team alone Mascherano and Romero were better. To see Argentina labeled as playing "violent" stuns me more than that 7-1 scoreline in the semis.
