unclesox, I've seen today this joke in a Spanish newspaper: Reina: Zapaterooooo Zapatero: Que? Reina: Zapaterooooo Zapatero: Queee? Reina: Una de crisis Zapatero: Una de queee?

david mitchelson:
NANDO, NANDO!!!!....... Just the best striker in the world!......Chelski wanted him for £40 m....get stuffed......£140 million more like.....and then we still wouldn't sell him. Well done Spain.

21st Century Paul:
Yes, they say very good things about Brazil in 1982, I was 4 so I can't remind.. and I haven't seen anything (unlike Brazil 1970). hey, But I don't think Argentina in 2006 was better at all... according to Beckenbauer Spain's football has been "the best of this decade" too.... well obviously is subjective... Quarterfinals misery? well, at least we have something good to remind. I still think coaches doesn't matter much really... for instance in Germany it was Ballack and the players who changed the system... and that happens very often...
You can't remember Brazil 1982 because you were only 4 years old... yet you remember Brazil 1970?! Did your parents even know each other back then? You say coaches don't matter. You think Spain would've pulled this victory off with someone other than Aragones in charge? If someone else had been coaching, I doubt he would've left Raul and Guti out, and Spain (as runners-up in Group D) would've lost to Holland in the quarterfinals.

A big signing that hopefully should bring some stability to the right back position, not to mention a freekick specialist what with Ronaldinho no longer taking the sport seriously.

Congratulationss to... Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito 2008 Copa Libertadores Champions! After defeating Brazil's Fluminense 4-2 at home in the first leg, they lost 3-1 at the Maracanã. With the away goals rule not in effect for the final, extra time went goalless before veteran goalkeeper José Cevallos became the hero as he saved three penalties, LDU winning on spot kicks 3-1. Many 'firsts' were provided in the 2008 final: -- It was the first time either side had reached the final. -- LDU's win was the first by a club from Ecuador. -- The trophy was presented at the Maracanã for the first time. -- It was the first two-legged final to go into extra-time. In the past a third-leg playoff was played at a neutral venue if the aggregate scores were level, and if that match was drawn after 90 minutes it would go to extra-time. -- It was the first time 10 goals were scored over a two-legged final. Four finals in the past had at least ten goals total but they included a third-leg playoff. Very surreal to see LDU receive their medals to an empty stadium, the Fluminense supporters not bothering to watch the post match festivities. And there were hilarious scenes when red, green and white confetti/streamers (Fluminense colors) were shot out of the cannons and rained down as LDU received the trophy. And the Argentine announcers on FOX Sports said that Fluminense officials were so confident of victory that last week they booked their December stay in Japan for the Club World Cup tournament. Shades of the 1950 Maracanazo.

I don't remind Brazil 1970, of course. But I've seen them play. I think I've seen the final Brazil vs Italy whole match two times, and lots of highlights of other matches. But I've seen ANYTHING at all from Brazil 1982.... Yes, I don't think Aragones is so important... if not he would be signed to Barça to play well again . Why they supposed to lose playing with Raul...? Real Madrid played with Raul as striker all the 2nd part of the league and did the highest number of points ever in the Spanish League. And I don't think Alves changes a thing in Barça if there's no changes in the players of the attack... Right now I'd say Real Madrid and Villareal are favs. Villareal gets better every year, cause they have been doing thins right, actually in a league without a team with so many points they would have been champions.

Barça's vote of censure has just finished. Official data of the 100% of the voters (40000+) Laporta staying 37 % Laporta out 60 % Two thirds are needed to force the president to resign. So Laporta stays unless he resigns if he wants to after this results.
-
Laporta still president of Barça, though many of the directives have resigned. The Camp Nou grass will be ravished next Sunday.... no... it's not any team playing there.... well... yes... it's a team playing there really. Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band... and 100000+ maniacs there... Everything sold in hours. This is the first time I'll be on the Camp Nou, by the way.
-
21st Century Paul:

The biggest casualties are Marc Ingla and Ferran Soriano, who were important figures in dealing with player/transfer negotiations. Soriano will now likely run for president in 2010, as will Sandro Rosell. Rosell is very well liked by the socios. Sorry, not a fan. Springsteen is waaay overrated, imo.

I didn't like Springsteen, until I saw a concert. But well... Barcelona likes him... the tickets (100000+, as you may guess, it's the Camp Nou), for the first show flew by in hours, I couldn't buy. And the second concert tickets were the same, I bought some of the 20 last ones... Bruce's concert are very "Interactive", and Barcelona use to be very interactive anyway.... as his DVD life in Barcelona shows... I only miss not being on the floor, where the players play. (I could miss not being on stage too, by the way, I think Roy Bittan (the pianist) can't tour... well... Laporta has said that... someone is gonna collaborate with him now... Gaspart! even as a Real Madrid fan, who should want a weak Barça... I think that someone should take Laporta out some way.... that's too much. (Gaspart, the only guy who lends some trousers to John Lennon (he was the son of the owner of the hotel where the Beatles stayed when visited Barcelona) and throws them away...) And this is a dream coming true. Someone forcing a referee to go out of the field. Drunk referee in main division of Bielorussia. Even the asistant helps to take the referee away and when the referee is out the audience goes mad. How many times we have wished this?
-
First day of training at Inter... "What is this, Italian Premiership or Argentina Premiership? So many Argentinas here." "WHAAAA! THIS IS ITALIAN PREMIERSHIP! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DIVE INSIDE PENALTY BOX!" "DROGBA, COME HERE!...... Wait, no, not Drogba. What is his name?...... ZLATAN, COME HERE!" "What?! Gray hair?! What my gray hair! You have gray hair too if you work for Abramovich! HAHAHA!" "hehe, Ronaldinho. Berlusconi must be sh*tting himself. What the f**k is Galliani thinking. He's worse than Abramovich. I already hate rossoneri. I want to kill Milan."
-
The never-ending story, typical in Real Madrid big signings, continue about you know who. Here the papers talk about Barça's interest in Robinho. A bit strange... But here as you go the city you easily hear the same conversation topic. There are two "Camp Nous" sold in hours for the Springsteen weekend concerts. So 250000 people are talking bout it and you meet them everywhere. Explosive combination Bruce Springsteen live+The E Street Band+Barcelona+the biggest stadium in Europe=total crazyness, maybe the concert of the century.

Concert of the century? That took place on April 1st, 2002. Opening night of Driving Rain tour in Oakland. Cuz I was there. But just for you, 21stPaul, a couple of snaps from Saturday's show. ![](http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20080720/i/r980098691.jpg[/img] [img]http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20080719/i/r725369592.jpg)

I think the Barcelona's Paul show of that tour was better, but well... I don't know what is gonna happen in a such a big stadium. Maybe it's more intense than Bruce in the Palau Sant Jordi (the famous DVD) cause there are more people, or maybe less cause they are more dispersed... let's see... Barcelona is Springsteen fav place to play, anything can happen... I've found yesterday's start:
I feel I'm already there no surrender, coming again... I thought this was very aproppiate to open the show after the death of Danny Federici. "We busted out of class had to get away from those fools We learned more from a three-minute record than we ever learned in school Tonight I heart the neighborhood drummer sound I can feel my heart begin to pound You say youre tired and you just want to close your eyes and follow your dreams down We made a promise we swore wed always remember No retreat, believe me, no surrender Like soldiers in the winters night with a vow to defend No retreat, believe me, no surrender Now young faces grow sad and old and hearts of fire grow cold We swore blood brothers against the wind Im ready to grow young again And hear your sisters voice calling us home across the open yards Believin we could cut someplace of our own With these drums and these guitars We made a promise we swore wed always remember No retreat, believe me, no surrender Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend No retreat, believe me, no surrender Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim The walls of my room are closing in But its good to see your smiling face and to hear your voice again We could sleep in the twilight by the river side With a wide open country in our hearts And these romanics dreams in our heads We made a promise..." and born to run yesterday I love the people chorus of Barcelona. waiting on a sunny day , from first row... -
Just coming back for my first day with Springsteen and with the Camp Nou. It has made wonder why I'm not a Barça supporter, cause I have the stadium so near... Bruce has achieved what Barça couldn't in a long time. The people made the "wave" (like in Mexico world cup) a lots of time, sung the "oh eh oh eh" chorus... and... shut up completely for some seconds, in one of the strangest moments I've seen in any concert, in some part of Twist and Shout. That never happened since Raul famous goal at the Camp Nou.

Because you're not a true 'fanatic' of the sport. You've said so yourself. You quit watching a match after only five minutes. Being a Barça supporter comes from the heart. Glory hunters follow Real Madrid.

The wave? At a football match?! That went by the wayside about the same time Vanilla Ice did. I'd even wager that it's no longer done at the Bernabeu either.

When was that, during the 99/00 season? 2-2 draw. The only time Raul has scored at Camp Nou. If the supporters went silent that night, it wasn't for too long because Barça finished ahead of Real Madrid in the standings that season. Springsteen played two concerts at Camp Nou. Only one at the Bernabeu. Because even The Boss recognizes which crowd is the more passionate and dedicated.

Glory hunters follow Real Madrid. No, I'm not a fanatic of seeing a match. I love playing football but not much watching it. I would prefer 100 times playing that watching. If I don't like what I watch I stop watching.

I agree in rock and roll, not in football... none of the two crowds is passionate and dedicated in Football...

BTW... Ronaldinho (that player...) to Milan for 25 milions. Just a little comment.

But not in football matches. My reponse was for your comment...

You were trying to imply that Barça supporters never did the wave because the team wasn't exciting enough. Nice try. The fact is the wave is no longer done at football matches/sporting events. Too cheesy.
21st Century Paul:

Ah, back on thread topic. Thank goodness. : That other stuff should go in the Band On The Run forum. Good bye, good riddance, and to Milan, good luck. He was no longer motivated, missed too many training sessions and spent too many late nights out. The world saw the best of him between 2004-2006 while he was a Barca player. Once the World Cup came round, it was downhill from there. Left many great memories, but no player is bigger than the club and it was time for both to move on. Btw, Pep has a set guideline of new rules, one of them being everyone must be home by midnight. A bit too much for my liking. He needs to trust the players. The dedicated ones will police themselves. Dani Alves may be the only problem.
